Hello, could you please recommend a good sci-fi themed RPG with space and planet exploring and mystery feeling? I am tired of fantasy themed games. It would be great if it was as recent made as possible. I have played the Mass Effect series but it looks like there is a serious lack of sci-fi RPGs beside that.

It doesn't have the space/exploration aspect, but if you're looking for something to remind you of Mass Effect but with better gun play, give Deus Ex: Human Revolution a go.

No space/exploration aspect but maybe XCOM: Enemy Unknown? It's more turn based RPG.

It really is an untapped market. Alls I got it System Shock 2, deus ex series, shadowrun

Warpath is a great coffee break space trader game

Thank you guys, I have played or tried almost all these titles.I will take anything sci-fi with mystery feeling and exploration. Is Star Trek online any good in this regard? Is the story engaging and suprising? And what about Elite Dangerous - will it be similar to Frontier Elite 2 or is it planned as multiplayer mainly?

Star Trek Online is your standard MMO, high on missions and low on actual story, though some of the later stuff that is voiced by the original cast members aren't bad. It's free so no loss to try it out!

Elite: Dangerous is going to be in the vein of Privateer/Freelancer, not the multiplayer MMO crap like Star Citizen.

Shadowrun
Borderlands
Deus Ex (any of them, but HR is nice and modern)
Star Control II (if you never played it, and don't mind old games, it's the best space exploration RPG ever made, grab it at GOG, or get the pseudo remake at http://sc2.sourceforge.net )
System Shock / System Shock 2
Fallout games (the old ones or new if you don't mind post-apocalyptic)
The first Dead Space is more action oriented, but it's still got emergent play similar to the Shock games where you kind of learn bits of the story as you go, picking up new logs and information.

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Oh, and it's nowhere near release I don't think, but Cyberpunk 2077 (from the Witcher devs) should be pretty damned good.

Escape Velocity Nova has the space exploration part, and is a really fun game with a sense of mystery. If you buy that you also get access to EV:Override, and the original Escape Velocity.

SWTOR is actualyl surprisingly good, the f2p update kinda fucked it though

f2p SAVED swtor...I would never have come back had it not been for f2p..and yes, I've resubscribed twice since the f2p conversion..thats the best part...I can play for free OR subscribe..my choice

recently, I bumped into a guy who just came back to play swtor after a 2 year hiatus...he said he got bored of gw2 and wildstar....so, there it is

yes, try swtor..it fits the bill exactly and you get to group up with others

swtor was great and is normally really cheap on steam sales. Heck even the MMO for star wars last year is Free to play and had a good story.

X3: Terran Conflict, and X3: Albion Prelude are good space exploration type games. Not a lot of RPG elements though.

SW:KotOR (SP D&D-type RPG that is normally cheap on Steam) != SW:TOR (Bioware in-name-only F2P MMO)

Ur-Quan Masters: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Free and awesome version of Star Control 2. It has exploration, nice combat system and plenty of choices and secrets to discover.

Yep, not to mention quite a few enhancements that make it somewhat easier to play. (not in game difficulty, but convenience-wise) Anyone that never played this should.

Drox Operative. This is actually a twist on a 4x, where instead of playing one of the races, you play an independent. You level up, increase stats, get equipment, and can help races succeed or fail.

At the very least, watch some YT videos of the game. I found it to be a quite enjoyable title.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Anachronox. It's like Final Fantasy but in space, with a sense of humor.
