Steam Summer sale is up

So who spent the most in this thread for the Steam summer sale? :p

I spent zero on Steam and $20 on Origin.

I realized that I will probably never play the games so I stopped buying humble bundles and steam sales. They go on sale often enough that if I decide I really want something, the opportunity will come up soon enough.

Think I did around $20. Not much

I've set price rules. This year it was no game over $5. Keep it low until backlog taken care of, which is only ~10 games after summer sale.

did anyone in here end up winning anything form the team thing? Watchdogs showed up on my games list out of the blue however it just says update pending and has been this way for a few days? When I click on it all I have is the option to purchase it...??

Same here, I also have a $5 Steam game rule. Unless it's a bundle, such as $10 including a bunch of games that I'd want.

I spent the least I've spent on one of these semi-annual Steam sales. Just $1.50 for Payday 1.

I prefer the "no more than $1 per hour of play time I get from a game" rule over a hard cap. Some games always end up a bust though. Ubisoft's terrible porting jobs really kill me.

You know a paid game is a really good deal when the amount of electricity used in gaming costs more than the game did.

Of course, this doesn't apply to free games b/c the minute you start playing it, you already paid for more in electricity than the game. :p

I started playing dark souls - that might have been the best $4.99 I've spent in a while :p

Steam sales are awesome for those gems you may have missed.

How do you know before the purchase, though? You might pass on a $5 game thinking that you'd get no more than an hour or two of play time out of it, when in reality you might have put 10-20 hours into that game had you given it a chance. It's happened to me (and so has the opposite, lol. I can't seem to put more than 0.5 - 2 hours into some games that promise 30-40+ hours of gameplay).

As for Ubisoft, not all of their ports have been perfect by any means but I've been really happy with them as a whole in recent years. Things haven't always been rosy with them but they have done a great job bringing a ton of awesome games to the PC (even if flawed). I do have to give them credit for that. I haven't had any major problems with their ports, and most of the time the game itself is good enough to overlook any shortcomings that might exist. They seem to have abandoned their bullshit always-on DRM... And even Uplay, which I wish didn't exist because it's an extra layer/client to deal with, hasn't caused me any problems and even lets me unlock additional rewards and game content unlike Rockstar Social Club and GFWL.

If that held true I would have had to spend like $600 for Dark Souls, $2000 for Team Fortress 2, $400 for Titan Quest, $500 for Mass Effect, $1100 for Mass Effect 3...

No, you've got it backwards. He's saying he doesn't want to spend more than a dollar for each hour he can get out of the game. So if a game is 20 hours long, he won't spend more than 20 bucks. In your case, if you bought Dark Souls for 50 bucks and got 600 hours out of it, you're paying 8 cents per hour.

I have a similar mindset sometimes. If I want a game but am on the fence, I can justify it against the price:time entertained value of a movie ticket at a theater.

I go in with the same mindset of a minimum of $1 per hour... which is why I wait for a lot of games to hit sub $15 that have short campaigns that I know i won't play twice. My record for value for my gaming dollar has to be Terraria... I think I spent $1.99 for it and logged over 200 hours on... $.00995 per hour :)

You're right, reading comprehension fail on my part .

I guess it depends on whether or not you think movie tickets are a good deal. Personally, I think they are massively overpriced (for the ticket alone it can be in the area of $10/hr).

I spend more time buying games rather than playing them sadly.

this is the story of my life as well.
I bet many of us spend 80-90% of gaming on Steam on 10-20% of the game in the collection. Hell, I have over 50 games in my Steam library but only 2 of them have more than 20 hours logged onto them (GTA Vice City and Sleeping Dogs). And maybe a handful of them have about 10-12 hours (racing games, off the top of my head).
