How much safe is dropbox?

I currently have dropbox installed in few of my machines and in my smart devices. It is just convenient to have access to your files from anywhere. It is not like I'll have very sensitive info in the dropbox folder, but I'd like to know how possible it is for others to gain access to my files.

Use encryption or stop uploading your data to untrusted parties. There's really no other way.
 
It's really good to think about security for things like this from a different angle. What's the most likely scenario? 1) Some skilled hacker targets your dropbox account, cracks his way in and takes your stuff 2) Dropbox itself suffers some kind of wider compromise and bad guys (TM) get ahold of your stuff or 3) you lose your cellphone or i's stolen, which you left logged into dropbox, and now the person holding that phone has access to your stuff.

#3 is more likely than either of the other two. The important thing to know is that in most cases, the users themselves are the weakest link of the security chain.

With that said, the security is all your responsibility. If you want to store sensitive files on there, then do like TCM2 said and encrypt them using strong encryption and a long key.

Make sure your phone is configured to lock with a PIN, and preferably configured to wipe itself if the PIN is entered incorrectly too many times.

For everything else, especially things you want access to via your smart devices like your phone or tablet, you should probably just ensure that stuff isn't sensitive in nature. Also, use a nice, strong, unique password for your dropbox that's different from any of the rest of your passwords.

He was referring to your thread title - "How much safe is dropbox." Should be how safe is, or how much safer is.

On topic, I used SpiderOak without a hitch. I loved their service, I just quit it because I needed more space than they could offer at a decent price so I made my own solution. Are you using a ton of space? Could you just use Google?

Didn't try google and I don't really need big space. How many space do SpiderOak offer ?

of course there's the whole National Security Letter issue. Dropbox encrypts your data on their drives to protect you from rogue low-level dropbox employees. If the NSA etc. serves dropbox with an NSL/warrant, dropbox will hand over your data exactly as you uploaded it.
