Battlefield: Hardline

Video down, can't find it anywhere now.

The main thing this game needs is a reason/gameplay that focuses people to work TOGETHER.

The chaotic "lonewolf" style in BF3/4 doesn't lend itself well to a game about this.

They need to find ways to bring players together through gameplay elements that rewards them for sticking together and using taictics.

The concept of teamwork runs contrary to DICE's current ethos of accommodating the lone wolf mentality. They have removed all mechanics which previously punished anyone who didn't work as a team because of their desire to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, not because it enhanced gameplay but in order to generate maximum profit.

i feel like there's even more incentive to work together now compared to past games. you're awarded extra points for sticking with your squad and reviving/repairing etc. you also get squad 'field upgrades' in BF4. and there's still the fundamental incentive of staying alive longer if you stick with your squad. there's some great game modes that reward you for teamwork too like obliteration, rush, and carrier assault. i don't think the problem is DICE leaving these incentives out, i think they've added a lot more over the years. the problem is the player community. more players just want to run around and shoot shit (myself included at times). but instead of joining a TDM game they join a conquest game which exacerbates the frustration when they do stuff like take off in a chopper alone and crash it into a mountainside.

yea, there is always that fine line devs need to walk on when it comes to team based activities. I often want team based stuff to highly support those who play as a team with much greater incentives but since not a whole lot of people want to play as a team, they had to reward the single player more so than the team.

that always sort of bothers me. I think it a lot of it has to do with "Stats" and people seeing those metrics and wanting to better them.

I don't, the incentive of points and unlocks is a meaningless game mechanic that revolves around a person's insecurity to feel some sort of tangible reward when playing their games. There is a lot of psychology behind why DICE/EA includes achievements, rewards and unlocks and it has a lot to do with appealing to an underlying need to feel a sense of accomplishment. Quite frankly I don't give a crap about any of that, it merely serves as a distraction which detracts from the underlying quality of the game. So much so that the first thing I did with BF4 was join one of the many populated XP boost servers in order to unlock all the main perks to avoid the grind now synonymous with BF games.

As to your second point, they have absolutely diluted the need for team work. Acting as a team can prolong your life, but it certainly isn't necessary. Compare that to the earlier BF games. If you didn't stick close to a medic you did not survive very long....now you can just hide in a ditch and regenerate health. Same with vehicle regeneration. Starting with gobs of ammo reduces the need to stick around a support person. Being able to spawn on any squad mate eliminates the strategic importance of the squad leader which was often the difference between winning and losing a round, etc. DICE haven't been shy about admitting this, in fact they very boldly claimed with BF3 that one of their primary goals was to "lower the threshold".

Good points with regenerating health and vehicle condition. The rest we have a different view points on.

Yep you're right. I admit I get a little caught up in the stats at times. I think it goes back to old school games for me like Q3, UT, and RTCW where I liked having a good KDR from round to round. Meaningless I know but hell sometimes it's hard to kick the 9 year old mentality out of you :D

Not for all of us. For me I use the attachment unlocks to actually try every weapon and assorted attachment. In BF3 I used the upcoming unlocks screen to see what weapon had the next unlock and I would work my way down the list switching at death. Then at the end of the round I would refresh the list. I ended up playing with combos I never would have tried. I do the same thing with BF4, but I have to use bf4stats.com instead.

Personally I am curious how this game is going to turn out. I just fear the unlock will be more like Counter Strike which holds zero interest to me. I want to unlock something once and be done with it.

Just another excuse for people to play like douches instead of PTFO. In the end 95% of the population gravitates to the most effective weapons/attachments/unlocks but in the interim will use the most effective tactics and strategies to grind XP points, which in my experience generally doesn't involve much teamwork. Hence the reason why clusterfuck maps like Metroll and Operation Cock-Blocker have been so popular.

I hope it's opposite of grand theft auto if they have NPCs in multiplayer which they might induce nausea.

This looks like something that a modder would do better, if only we weren't too stupid to use the mod tools.

A lot of that is on DICE though and removing unlocks won't change that. Also nothing is stopping DICE from offering more and better rewards for playing the objective and penalizing those that don't.

I mainly play Domination and it is extremely clear that DICE doesn't design the maps for it or give much thought to flag placement. If anything they have sections of the maps designed around not playing the objective such as the roof on Siege of Shanghai or Zavod 311. Add on top of it the fact the engineer class is all but a waste in Domination also.

If DICE really wanted teamwork and people to PTFO, they would do something about it. Take squads. For example, they still haven't addressed squad leaders who don't give orders, and assigning players to empty squads before filling up squads. There is no reason you should join a server and see 5 squads of 2 man groups or be assigned the role of squad leader if you never give orders.

I don't disagree, it is all on DICE for diluting important team play mechanics and designing maps that detract from PTFO. Their entire approach serves to enable lone wolf mentality rather than punish it.

i hate that once all the premium dlc is released, the next game is out.

learn from it and stop buying the bullshit. they take it to a whole new level though with the goofy "short cut" kits they have been trying to sell since BF3. creativity etc is completely in the back $eat with the the DICE/EA dream team.

i signed up and got confirmed (after 40 unsucessful tries) but its not showing up on my origin...

Same here.

Got the confirmation email that I am in the beta but it is not showing up in 'My Games' for download.

Seems like this is happening to a shitload of people. Probably crushed the EA servers lol. Guess we have to wait ?

I filed a ticket and got a call which said to wait. Some people are getting codes in their email so keep an eye out for those also.

I did get my email confirmation though.

EDIT: I signed up again which went right through and the game appeared in Origin immediately so might be worth going through the sign-up again. It could just be they finally sent it to my account though.

ANDDDDDDDDDD IM IN!

Downloading now! ( after like 12 million restarts??? ) it showed up in my 'MY GAMES' tab lol.

yeah it finally showed up too. just finished installing, see you on the battlefield!

edit: uhh how do i play exactly? i pressed play in origin it brings me to the beta sign up page.

Same issue here. Some people get the correct battlelog, but I can't get anything other than the beta signup page.

if its similar to APB but with depth and working mechanics it could be fun. BUT this is EA so it wont be that.

Watched the twitch and APB did it better

Graphics are last gen crap.. Ultra settings. No way I'm paying $60 for a BF4 map pack w/ MP tweaks.

There was a time when all of us would have enjoyed this game as a mod? Remember those days? This is some alternate reality.

But it's not.. It isn't even DLC. It's a $60 cash grab recycling the MP from BF4

... Re used the same parking garage from flood zone... Buildings from shanghai.... Come on now.. Fucking lazy devs...

Looks like a half dozen monkeys were trapped in a room for a couple weeks with BF3 and 4 and this is the result.
