Watch Dogs

Does anyone actually successfully invade someone? At around 75% it pinpoints you to an area of like 5 feet making it impossible to complete it unless the guy is too busy with the cops.

I've hacked other players maybe 5 times or so, and I've only been discovered once. It was my own stupidity. I didn't realize I had so much time to start the download and ended up doing it in plain view. He found me almost immediately and mowed me down. I've had good luck staying in cars and either parking and hiding or just doing circles if I've got enough room to do it inconspicuously.

The handful of times I've been hacked have been hit or miss. The first two times I failed because I didn't really know what I was looking for. Once I got the hang of it, I found the next two people.

Last night I finally successfully hacked someone by hiding in a dark corner. The guy walked past me twice and somehow didn't notice me.

I also got hacked by someone hiding in a car with fully tinted windows. Really mad at myself at that one, and the worst thing is I can't find that car at all to use against others.

This game really needs to be played with a 360 controller. The driving and interaction with the world is much, much smoother.

I play racing games with my keyboard, so I'm used to it. :p

Still, I don't like playing 3rd person or 1st person shooter with a controller. Which is why I don't own a console lol.

I don't own a 360, but strangely enough own a bunch of 360 accessories. 2x Wireless Controllers, 2x Wired Controllers, 2x Headsets and the HD-DVD add-on drive, all for my PC :D

What does hacking someone do?
Increases your notoriety, which unlocks more skills to be used while playing online. It's also a ranking system that can determine how many fixer contracts are put on you if I'm not mistaken.

I only switch to my xbox controller for when I'm cruising around or for that drunk minigame. If I'm in a high speed chase driving with the keyboard is better because it's a lot easier for me to look around and disable helicopters if I need to.

Really, controller is only better for pure racing games. Third person games imo are much better with a mouse and keyboard because I actually have direct control of the camera at all times without the need to "claw" the controller.

I've had a great time on my KBM. At least have the choice on the PC. :)

I mostly use the controller for driving and just walking around, shooting or action I use KBM.

This game desperately needs the Steam controller. It'd be great if Valve's rate of development wasn't so glacial.

I'm not sure their problem is so much development being glacial, as their reluctance to release something that they aren't 100% sure is going to be a success. As for the Steam Controller, there are several issues delaying it besides continuing to refine it: working with developers to make sure new games that will coincide with the Steambox/SteamOS launch will work well with it, and coinciding the release of it with that launch rather than losing impact by releasing only the controller early.

Ugh .. some of these side mission design decisions are just silly.

*Small Spoiler*I'm doing one of the convoy missions where you have to "knock down" two people. That has got to be one of the most illogical things I've ever heard when the game doesn't give you any less-than-lethal weapon options (that I can find). As soon as you stop the convoy, the weapons come out in force. So I try to pick off the other guys, but the people I'm suppose to knock down are also armed. With no body armor, this is stupid difficult. Couple that with the fact collisions don't mean shit in this game, so you can't just get a big rig and ram them. Their cars don't die.

The only non-lethal you get, that I'm aware of, is the baton. There should absolutely be some sort of tranq gun, but I think the devs really wanted to encourage lethality for some reason.

For the knock-down convoy missions, I suggest the following:

A) Get sufficiently behind cover and wait for the convoy to approach your location rather than going to them. Overpasses work spectacularly for this, but they're found pretty sparingly. Improvise.

B) Pull out either of the grenade launchers and take out any vehicles not containing your knock-down targets. This should get the other vehicles containing your targets to speed away, but they may occasionally just all hop out. If they do, you're in bad shape.

C) Prepare to give chase. Get yourself a decently fast car as close to your hiding location as you can and be willing to ram any vehicles you can't otherwise disable. Ramming is actually a good technique, as it gets you close enough to hop out and start jacking up any passengers quickly.

Some people suggest just ramming all cars with an armored car. That might work better for you, but the knocking out vehicles with the grenade launcher can make things a lot easier in my opinion. And the GL is a great way to get police in on the action to distract any targets of yours.

that's hard to believe considering you were complaining about it on the last page...

In only 1 mission and it's game stopping. Really. The mouse moves so slow like you have the sensitivity turned all the way down and it takes you 5 minutes to pass 1st stage but you get screwed when you go to the 2nd stage and it has stupid 30 second timers.

Do you have a mouse that can adjust DPI on the fly? There must be a way to even use autohotkey or something to make a macro key that will increase/decrease it so you can toggle it for the hacking portion.

I have a G9X and I maxed it out at 5700DPI. Barely helped. I also tried to use my G510 hot keys to "take over" the mouse but that didn't work.

no, no it isn't, otherwise i would be playing the game with a keyboard and mouse. at least with a controller my inputs aren't skewed horribly or ignored altogether.

that's hard to believe considering you were just complaining about it yesterday.

I'm using a controller for WD, and I've been anti-controller for god knows how long, however I wish I would have gotten one sooner. These stupid console ports work/feel so much better, and if you want to really feel input lag, fire up DS2 and enjoy getting WTF raped because it took 1 second for your button press to go through lol.

Well I passed my game stopping part. had to use a PS3 controller and install ScpServer and Xbox360 drivers for it to work. I passed the mission with flying colors and now I'm back to my KB/M. :p

you want to turn the sensitivity down so that the game's threshold for what's considered movement is much lower, that way you can actually move the cursor slowly without the game ignoring your input completely. or just use a controller.

Doing convoy mission for the main story.
I shoot the driver of the car to get his passenger out so I can do a takedown, and the car goes speeding away.

What the fuck.
Let me guess it's one of those Driver's Ed cars with 2 steering wheels.

This is my biggest complaint about Ubi games. Even the main campaign missions are the same thing as the side quests with a little bit of lore attached.
IE: Instead of killing some random guy in a convoy, I have to take him out because he knows info about me.

It's still the same damn game mechanic.
AC4 pulled the same bullshit.

Yeah, there's really nothing interesting about the storyline missions. It's all recycling of the side missions with a little extra sugar on top.

Maybe it is just because I have never played a GTA game, but I think Watch Dogs is the best thing I've played in years. I got off work and just got done playing for like 4 hours. I mostly did random stuff, but I did the campaign up to your first multiplayer deal. I swear I chased the dude for like 15 minutes before managing to kill him :D :D :D

Yeah, sadly I have to agree. AC4 really pissed me off in a lot of ways. One thing I will say that game did well was the ship to ship combat. It took a long time before I got sick of doing that.

I hate that they did more of that "tail some dude through a restricted area" nonsense in Watch_Dogs. Those were the worst parts of AC4...the "eavesdropping" missions where you had to stay super close to a guy, and there was practically ONE route you had to take in order for it to work, and you had to figure it out through numerous trial and error situations...bullshit.

I got to a campaign mission in Watch_Dogs that is similar to what you describe...you have to take out some guy in a fire truck that is escaping on the freeway, and of course as soon as you get close the cops are called and they start doing ctOS scans of the area. I am pretty sure it's unavoidable and the cops come after you regardless, which is stupid because then the cops come after you and not the bad guys, so you have to deal with BOTH. TotalBiscuit pointed out the same issue in his video...if you are assaulting a gang hideout and someone calls the cops due to gunfire, both the cops and the gangsters will fight you side-by-side for some reason. I thought once I saw the cops fighting gangsters but I can't be sure about that since I didn't see it directly.

CTOS signal jammers and use of focus go a long ways but those are frustrating situations to be sure.

I think this game does some things better than the GTA games. Despite some of the quirks and wrinkles, I see myself sticking with this a lot more than I did with GTA 5.

Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause 2 also did some things better than the GTA games IMHO. Highly recommend those games to everyone for those who haven't played them.

This game makes me mad sometimes with how stupid it is.
Chasing an NPC for a takedown, he was crossing an intersection so I hit "Neutralize". He crossed into the oncoming traffic lane and crashed into a car.

He INTENTIONALLY changed lanes for NO REASON and crashed into oncoming traffic.

I love the random crime where I'm chasing the guy and the criminal jumps off a ledge and I get a pop up that I neutralized the criminal...yup, they just killed them self. About as fun as trying to clime up a ladder, having the pop up "press B" and taking the swan dive to your death off the roof. The othe frustration was my own fault since I was mainly playing single player, and downloading itunes stuff in the background I disabled razer boost (disables everything in the background not needed, torrents, iTunes, antivirus, updates, etc.) so my anti virus scan popped up at 98% of a crime prevention and then the refresh was bugged (120hz), ended up headshoting the victim and clumsily taking out the criminal.

Trying to switch between grenades, pills, and jammers on the weapon wheel has gotten me killed a few times.
Too many consumables to juggle with one button.

For that, a stop time function would be enormously useful. It's heartbreaking to have to burn through such a limited amount of focus just to finagle around the weapon wheel.

Most games pause when you open the weapon wheel (or extremely slow time).
Watch Dogs already has the Focus mechanic, I completely expected the weapon wheel to slow time as if you were using Focus.

NOPE!
Turns out half the difficulty of this game is managing your inventory in the heat of battle.

Also, the consumables slots make no sense in what you can select...there are 4 of them on the wheel, each with it's own "thing" kind of, but then you can select IEDs on any of them? Why the randomness?

A lot of the design choices in this game just don't make sense.
