Watch Dogs

It's possible that there's a memory leak or some other bug, or that it's running out of VRAM and causing performance problems.

But if neither of those were true, why would you care? Are you trying to run another game and alt-tab between them? Why is unused VRAM desirable?

Well the problem is when it went over game started stuttering very badly and made game almost unplayable.

I've just realized there are no racing mini-games, which is disappointing.
There's also nothing to spend your money on, aside from guns/clothes/parts which aren't that expensive. I have $200k funds after just dicking around for a few hours.

It also makes hacking people obsolete since if I need anything I can just go buy it.

Contrast that to AC4, where I spent the ENTIRE GAME broke. So much stuff to buy. :/

The money system in this game is an absolute joke. Money was simple in the beginning but once you have the two ATM boosts and the perk that highlights wealthy citizens it's practically a built in cheat code.. Circle a few blocks and 10 minutes later cash out 30-40k

Yeah money is never a problem once you upgrade the perks. I have like 300k and have bought several things already.

I will say that although the music in cars kinda sucks (IMO of course), the orchestral tracks during missions are really good. Reminds me of a Tron Legacy soundtrack vibe a lot of the time...very enjoyable.

As for the large pages tweak...it might have gotten rid of a bit of the hitching but it's still pretty bad. Hopefully they patch it.

Yeah. I spent literally 5 minutes walking around a central area where the rich hang out. Money became a non issue at that point.

Hmm, I may have found the reason for performance issues. I disabled my pagefile in windows, and according to MSI afterburner my pagefile was 12GB (the amount of ram in my system.) Actual ram usage was around 4GB, from what I read that means the rest was just allocated. After 4 minutes it crashed.

Should this be so high? Is it because 2 290s at 4GB each is causing it to use more system memory?

For what it's worth game did seem smoother for the 4 minutes, but min fps was around 35-45.

edit: disabled crossfire and pagefile usage was around 8GB. Damn, either the game's buggy and allocates too much memory or all games do this. Going to test out other games.

On a side note it looks like the flag -disablepagefilecheck doesn't actually work.

Saints Row The Third:
1 card:
2.5GB usage 5GB Pagefile
2 cards: 2.9GB usage 7.1GB Pagefile

For all the gripes and such...today was the day where I really got into this game and I'm enjoying the hell out of it for what it is.

Me too. Seems everyone else is too busy complaining that it doesn't look as good as they wanted. It looks acceptable, and I'm having a ton of fun. It should easily entertain me all summer long.

Nobody ever said it wasn't fun, its just such an underachiever it could have been what everyone wanted. I'm sure the 2nd game in the series will give GTA a run for its money, but this just misses it on sooo many levels.

same. i think i played for 8 hours straight yesterday after i lessened my stuttering issues (large pages tweak.) the gang stronghold sidemissions are really fun, and blowing stuff up with the grenade launcher in slow motion is so satisfying. this game would've had a much different reception if it didn't have such terrible issues.

Just spent like 6 hours playing Digital Trips.
Spider Tank and Madness are fucking amazing. I still can't beat Madness.

That's Ubisoft for ya. The Division will probably be the same.

Welcome to 2 pages ago. :D

And yeah, the game is fun. However, it suffers from the same issue as GTA, which is that like 90% of the side missions/activities are not that fun, IMO. The digital trips have been fun for like 5 minutes apiece, and then I really have no desire to play them again. Honestly the only thing I am really interested in right now is just doing the campaign, along with unlocking all the towers (which really just shows you where a bunch of collectibles are that I probably won't get anyway).

Really? In my case I find a lot of the things to do extremely fun. I've only done like 5 or 6 missions so far and the rest is just messing around or online, which is also really fun.

Honestly it's what sets apart this game from other open world games like Saints Row. The city actually feels alive, it's definitely the closest thing to a GTA title imo.

So after playing the game some more and applying sweetfx it is much better. I would give it a 7/10 thus far. Need to play more to form a full opinion but compared to initial impressions, things have improved after applying performance tweaks, graphical tweaks and lowering my expectations.

It is no next gen game but still decent enough.

I'm going to give the large pages tweak a try next time I play the game & see how it goes.

Well, yeah, I guess given that the missions are semi-dynamic it does feel a bit more alive. However just the missions in general to me feel pretty repetitive quite fast. The reason why I like the ctOS tower hacks is because it's sort of like a puzzle each time that you have to figure out. The hacking mini-game that you have to do sometimes with the pipes isn't bad, either, but it's usually a bit too easy, even with the timer/alarm segments.

it's fun I just cant get past the hacking a traffic light or steam pipe while driving a sports car at 100 mph down a busy street. I can't send a voice text in real life without crashing into someone.

he obviously has full access to those systems would it be so hard to make an intelligent UI that only requires you to hit 1 button on the touch screen to overload what ever you are pointing the camera on the phone at.. i mean it is a game hacking doesnt have to be completely authentic.

Does anyone actually successfully invade someone? At around 75% it pinpoints you to an area of like 5 feet making it impossible to complete it unless the guy is too busy with the cops.

A guy successfully hacked and invaded me yesterday, he ended up hiding on the very edge of the circle on the outside of a stairwell.

Yes a few times. Once you get close and hack their phone you have 60 seconds to initiate the download or whatever, so pick your spot.

I've hidden on "rooftops," around corners and even some crates that I kept moving around as they searched nearby.

Problem is they limit the area where you can hide, so you can't run off to find a nice spot unless it happens to be close enough to the player.

Once I'm in a rural area and there's practically nowhere for me to hide. So I get in a car and act like a regular driver quite successfully, even managed a few loops when he wasn't looking. But then the radius got so small, it's impossible to do anything and I just had to book it.

Shrug. The only time I was found was due to my own stupidity. You have to be creative and observant of your surroundings.

Once you hack the player I'm not sure there's a limited range required to actually initiate the download. You have a 60 second window to find a hiding spot before you start the hack. It's only once you start downloading that you need to stay within that blue circle.

So.

Enter 1v1
Find player
Get close enough to hack their phone
Run away and find a hiding spot (you have 60 seconds from what I've heard)
Initiate download
Hide until completed

edit: I would never hide IN a car. I would take cover behind it and move around the car as needed.

I don't believe you can be hacked if no contract is put on you and generally speaking I avoid letting the NPCs putting contracts on me, I either steal their phones, block all out going calls or use my trusty SVD so no one calls anyone for help.

Well there is a limited range from where you can initiate the download, at least I couldn't go too far without it telling me to stay in the vicinity, which is probably the biggest issue. But I'll try to be more creative I guess.

Regardless, it's still a lot of fun. Tailing someone is also interesting, that's a lot easier to do also.

I actually like getting invaded, so I let them complete the call.

Anyone else have issues with the mouse speed issues during the "hacking" where you get to hit Q to rotate the pipes?

Mine all the sudden barely moves there but works fine normally.

The sensitivity options are weird, they only seem to work in game and not in the menus/map, probably the same for the minigame.

Problem its a mission not a mini game.

Currently doing Mission: Someone’s Knocking.
Objective: Trace the hacker.

When it pops up to trace the hacker. the mouse moves SUPER slow. its impossible to navigate threw the second hotspot with all the timers.

I got it stable by using some tweaks and sticking to one card.

Won't let me run high res textures on 2048mb of VRAM. Oh well.

Locked at 30 FPS it still looks better than PS3 because of resolution and AA.

Now the gameplay...that can get annoying. I miss customizing cars. I would have loved weapon customization since they went with a "shoot em up" side mission system. I've unlocked the silenced AR and the anti-material 2 shot 50 caliber...but my go to is still the ACR and the grenade launcher.

There are some really fun aspects...commentary from baddies when you hack their hand grenades, slowly methodically working through them with the silenced pistol, tricking them into traps and IEDs. Some of the cars are a lot of fun, a bunch of them are complete bores. You can't keep your favorites around for very long without reordering them constantly. Bikes are simulated ok. I've unlocked all the towers and taken out most of the convoys and gangster lairs, and the game is running out of steam for me. I don't want to play chess or "drinking games." I've won hundreds of thousands at poker. I can spend it and get it back in minutes of hacking phones/ATMs.

I don't know how this game took so long to develop, but it is underwhelming. Is the protagonist batman? I am stopping purse snatchers and muggers, assassins and loonies left and right. The whole question is....why? I suppose getting on with the single player campaign is my last resort and will explain why the hell I am doing what I am doing...but, meh...groundbreaking it is not. GTA V was the pinnacle of fun sandbox and took up months of gaming time, on an outdated console no less. This will be finished in a day or so with nothing left to do.

i hacked a grenade earlier and the panicked grunt tossed it at the gang boss and blew up my objective so i failed it lol

LOL xD... That happened more than once to me but its funny as hell:D

Some funny things can happen in this game, especially online. Yesterday I was tailing some guy, waiting in my car out in the open at a bridge intersection, like any other AI. The guy steals my car and pushes me out, I'm just standing there and he doesn't suspect a thing lol.
