Watch Dogs

2 hours is a lot of time spent playing this game. I doubt I will be surprised after the 2 hour mark. Maybe the main missions are OK but the atrocious game world just throws me off. Sleeping Dogs was 10X better than this horse shit.

I've played about 2 hours or so on the xbox one, I played the PC version for a little while the performance was shit at the time. Honestly the game is good and I think the hacking is pretty neat. Now if you go into expecting it to be on par or better then GTA V you'll most likely be disappointed.

Taking into consideration its a new IP and open world game for ubisoft, its not too bad. I think once they release the crew and the division. They will have better systems for the driving and combat to implement if the make a sequel. Hopefully for me its similar to Assassin's creed the first one was mediocre and repetitive with the sequel being amazing.

Well I recovered most of my game.. The `other' install I have saved to a different location. So I'm only about a mission behind after copying the saves over.

OK maybe I am missing a setting here or there or I need to mess around with the config settings and maybe someone can help me out here but is the game supposed to look this bad or am I doing something wrong? This cannot be the intended look of the game right? This looks worse than a PS3 game to me, wtf. Ultra @ 1080p.

Driving in the game is terrible, but you can tip toe around it by concentrating like you're taking the SAT. Otherwise you're going to plow over hundreds of civilians. What really exacerbates it is the sudden stutters that the game has. Well I shouldn't call them stutters as they're more like 1.5 seconds of random freeze frames. I thought it was the smoke from when I hit the emergency brake, but after observing it more I just think it's random.

The freezing really rears it's ugly head when involved in gun fights. Think of a person with the worst speech impediment that you've met. Then imagine them trying to shoot between stutters. That's what the gun play feels like.

Earlier I was happy that CrossfireX was working on my HD7950's. I was dead wrong. Game is much smoother with one HD7950 than two of them. When I enable CrossfireX, I get a weird white smoky circle around my character after playing for 30 mins. Eventually textures start artifacting and I have to restart the game to continue on. Luckily it only takes a few seconds to leave and reenter the game world. But still the ghost ring shouldn't be happening.

Here's a compilation of strange lack of features Watch Dogs is suffering from:

Buses: There are BUS STOPS, pedestrians use them, but there are no buses!
Police boats: If you get a wanted level, hop in a boat and the only thing chasing you is a helicopter. No police boats.
Stop light hacking: If you hack a stop light, every NPC car at the light will automatically pedal to the metal. Even when it makes no sense to do so.
Motorcycles: Pedestrians don't use them, they only exist in parking spaces.
Umbrellas: Pedestrians throw them on the ground when they come inside from the rain, then just leave them there (kicking them around etc)

thank goodness they bundled the game with Nvidia cards...that way people were able to buy it for relatively cheap in F/S forums...I paid $25 and don't think it'll be worth that much in the end

I'm having a blasty blast with this game.
It sucks playing at 30fps though. If this game ran as well as Sleeping Dogs did, we'd be in business.

Quick question -

Do you guys also have black horizontal bars (top/bottom) when playing this game? I'm on a 30" montior (2560x1600) and have the aspect ratio set to 16:10 (native). I still get black bars on the top and bottom.

Is this normal? It was also the case with other Ubisoft games such as Splinter Cell. Just want to make sure I cannot get true fullscreen.

16:10 is a non industry standard. Some companies don't support it. Ubisoft being one of them.

I'm not touching this for the next few months, but are there story tie ins with AC4 at all? Just curious

Well, I have been experimenting with this shizzle ma nizzle and only playable setting is everything on Ultra and Temporal SMAA. It makes the game look fairly decent minus some AA issues and runs mostly tight like your mums last night.

However, this still does not change my opinion of the game. I will do some more missions and see if things get interesting. Currently instafailing the Backseat Driver mission because car controls like butter thrown in a hallway.

Wait until you're in a car chase and about to win with your car still perfectly intact. The game stutters and when you can move your character again, you just suddenly explode like a roman candle. Like WTF just happened? Seriously? Did that shit just really happen? To me? Now I have to drive again? Whom did I piss off in another life?

Well i grabbed the latest amd driver and it made worlds of difference. I just got to act 2 and so far i would give this game a 6/10. graphics are for the most part early last gen. cars are just terrible, they feel like your driving a slippery brick. hacking is kinda nifty somtimes. story is entertaining, but its nothing original. gunplay is actually pretty good. oh and the cops are basically nonexistent unless some one calls 911, in the 6 or so hours i have played i have been chased by the cops only once by cops that weren't specifically sent to chase me.

so all in all i would say its a 15-20 dollars. game

I called this shit way back on page 1 almost 2 years ago :
Saw ubisoft, turned away..

Your loss.

I figured I'd come in here this morning and see the usual hate and bullshit. Good God people.
Let me try this one time: IT ISN'T ALWAYS ONLINE DRM ANYMORE! IT HASN'T BEEN FOR A QUITE A WHILE!
This will be a day one buy for me. I'd by a system for it if I have to. Upgrade my PC, whatever it takes.

This and The Last of Us are the two crown jewels by far of the E3 that I've seen thus far.

Based on all present available media, I'm looking at a product that merits a day one buy for me.

Now the finished product reveals itself!

Also this :
And now Uplay is down again.. FFS

Ubisoft FTW!

I dont't know why but for me the game runs really smooth and graphics are a lot better than GTA IV or V though no where near the E3 debut promo. On top of that, the game is really amazing. I love it so far.

So how is this game compared to other open world games ...GTA4, GTA5, Saints Row 4...? I guess if it was at least better than GTA4 I would consider buying it to mess around with until GTA5 came out.

I'm actually enjoying this game. It's nothing revolutionary, but what did people expect with a GTA clone? That said, the improved gunplay and hacking set it appart from GTA 4. I like the online play as well.

It runs fine on high settings with my aging 6970 and looks great. Oddly enough, I found reverting audio to stereo from 5.1 really improved performance and smoothed things out a lot.

On the bad side... I had a few crashes. Didn't lose much progress though, even though the auto-save system is complete rubbish (why on earth can't they just let us save when/where we want?)

All and all, it was a good buy. It's available for less than $30 on ebay (I got mine for $25), so you can't go wrong.

I've been having a blast just exploring. I've found the game worth my money so far & I'll keep playing it for a while. Very few issues up to this point.

Agreed. If you're the sort who can, in a game, just walk around admiring things and exploring areas, you'll like Watch Dogs. It's a real-world, non-musical Proteus with a point. It's fun to listen to phone conversations, spy on people and take down crims, even if the story missions are drab and often frustrating.

Just avoid driving and take the L-train ;)

When we talk about forward thinking, PC gaming industry moving games, Watch Dogs fits that bill.
Hold on what?

I'm confused. We've got screenshots and testimony of a game that looks like shit based on what I've seen. Then we have [H] saying that it's "industry moving"?

Huh? Daytime the game looks like garbage. Mismatched texture quality, washed out colors, terrible skins on cars, a grand total of 3 different boats with terrible skins. Nighttime? Looks decent.

Stop light hacking: If you hack a stop light, every NPC car at the light will automatically pedal to the metal. Even when it makes no sense to do so.

Despite being really stupid, I really like that this is a thing. I've had quite a bit of fun just seeing how big of a mess I can make at intersections.

Nighttime is laughable as well. Not sure who would call it decent. Log into Sleeping Dogs and you can see for yourself.

well it definitely looks better than day time.

also wtf is up with indestructible cars i can crash my car a million times and it doesn't blow up, npc's cars are almost as invulnerable. unless you use a hack then they all blow up like they are full if gas cans.
i have rammed intimately a suv with an armored car going full speed and it just drove away. but 2 sedans going 20mph at a hacked stop light immediately burst into flames and blow up.

I haven't gone too far with the story missions. The beginning had me hooked though... so I guess I'll gauge how I'm feeling about it after doing a bunch of them.

Only able to play 20 minutes this morning (passed the intro part through the stadium, escaped the po po). Runs well, looks decent. Probably a bit better than Saints Row visuals.

Out of interest, who opted for a controller over kb+m? For those that used the gamepad for the Assassin's Creed series, did you do the same for Watch Dogs? I used the keyboard this morning, but mouse control feels like there is some level of acceleration and the normal running controls feel similar to Assassin's Creed (which I used a gamepad for, since it felt much more intuitive).
