Watch Dogs

some of you guys are in denial and want the game to be good so badly...the writings been on the wall for months...early copies leak- nope don't trust leaked copies...early reviews- nope site is not big enough...big name site reviews- nope can't trust them, they are paid off...the game is going to be average at best...I wanted to buy it as well but not any more...gameplay matters more then graphics to me and Watch Dogs looks to be average at best in this regard...I predicted scores in the 8/10 range but now I'm thinking I might have been optimistic

Most of the people who've played it early seem to like it.

the game seems both very repetitive(which GTA V was) but with a much less interesting missions. But the story, acting, dialogue has been weak.

The side missions which seem constant, yet completely unnecessary, are all easy/boring/same thing over and over. The rewards, as far as I can tell, aren't particularly enticing to make you want to do them either. Loads of conversations to listen in on normally or through hacking but none are interesting, well 1 in 50. It's very non adult, and doesn't have much humour. I've heard one fart joke and that is about as funny as it got. Lacking the cutting edge wit or more adult/normal banter it's all a bit tame and neutered.

Performance issues are also making it pretty horrible to play, driving is hilariously awful both because of low frame rate and awful control.

It's killing time but really not drawing me in. Has next to no progression feel in it as (afaik) every gun, every car, it's all available straight away

It's not all bad, if I could pretend it was running at 120fps smooth, then it looks decent enough, it's not brilliant. The really only good effect is water on ground + lighting on water, day time/night + no rain all look a bit drab.

No punishment/bonus for stealing money off certain people is a huge mistake. You can just run around getting loads of money straight away. There is no "hack too many people and police come check the area" mechanic. Also despite giving everyone a job/story/name, there is no effectively karma mechanic which they could SO easily have done. IE hack the bank accounts of a single mother who works for a charity... people in the world dislike the vigilante, hack a rich wall street banker, or a rapist, or murderer, and the people in the world like you more. There is a name/back story for every hacking target yet it's irrelevant.

So you've played the game? On your main rig in the sig? Jesus. Also I find it funny that you think a fart joke is the most humorous thing you've found.

Putting the strawman arguments aside for a moment, you linked to a guy ranting and raving about the PS4 and PS3 versions looking similar. Reviews for the console version are ultimately irrelevant here, wouldn't you agree?

If people want to bash the game, fine, but let's stick to the PC version.

gameplay will be the same across all platforms...the lower res graphics wouldn't be an issue if the gameplay was amazing (ex- Dark Souls)...it's what I feared about the game- boring, repetitive side missions, lackluster 'main' plot...and the big hacking mechanic turns out to be fluff used to market this game as something special and unique

when the reviews come out tomorrow I bet we'll see the same type of reviews on PC...better graphics then consoles no doubt but far short of the next-gen hardware killing specs that they touted since Day 1...if the gameplay falls short you better hope that the graphics at least make the game worth it for those enthusiasts who want max graphical fidelity

"I’ve been testing it over the weekend on a variety of newer AMD and Nvidia graphics cards...It’s evident that Watch Dogs is optimized for Nvidia hardware, but it’s staggering just how un-optimized it is on AMD hardware...AMD will release a new driver to the public this week which reflects those improvements. (It’s the same driver I conducted my testing with.)...Unfortunately my conversation with Hallock didn’t end with a silver lining: “I am uncertain if we will be able to achieve additional gains due to the unfortunate practices of the Gameworks program,” he remarked

I thought the next-gen consoles were going to have the opposite effect...with Nvidia being shut out...I guess in the end it's about which titles Nvidia can grab...if they continue grabbing the big AAA titles then AMD's console advantage will mean very little

Totally agree, as I said before 1800mb~2000mb lowest settings is for the birds

Yerp.. Depending on how Ubisoft handle this.. It might be the final straw for me in PC gaming. I'm a hardware nerd. I love PC's and have been building them for over 20yrs now.. But for gaming.. Just really getting long in the tooth. Maybe I'm just getting old.. Again.. I don't mind chasing technology if the results pay off for it. Like if Metro Last Light required 4GB of VRAM. I actually would have understood.. But.. It doesn't.. It just uses raw power instead with moderate VRAM usage. Far Cry, Batman, Sleeping Dogs, Skyrim etc etc etc..

Now.. We magically have a game that looks average at best, with no Physx, no real special things going on eating up 6GB of VRAM? Even Assassins Creed 4 was a VRAM whore and that was a haze filter average looking graphics at best game.

GTFO with this.. I just refuse to fall for it. I'll gladly pony up to Sony for a PS4 if this is the way things are going.

This is a joke right?
Even the budgiest of budget PC's runs this game better than the PS4.

We'll no way am I going to funnel them any coin when they are deliberately crippling my performance. I've heard of Gameworks optimizations but I had no idea is was THIS bad performance wise on AMD hardware.

Wait until you see how terrible Project Cars runs on AMD. Nvidia sponsored title means crippled performance on Intel and AMD.

Why would Nvidia want to cripple Intel performance?
It's not like they have a CPU to compete with Intel.

OH RIGHT the CPU is obsolete.

I Just played the first mission i watch dogs. The game looks pretty good on ultra settings(1080 P resolution) , ultra textures , SMAA antialising. And preformance was good, no stutter or lag.

My hardware specs : Core i7 2600k 3.4 Ghz Stock speed
16 Gb Ram
GTX 780 Palit OC 3 GB Vram
The game is running from a Samsung 512 GB EVO SSD

What's your point? Somehow I doubt all the people already "playing" in this thread preordered a physical copy.

Again.. Who cares? No one here is saying they pirated it.. I appreciate you being the moral police Watch Dogs white knight and making vague allegations and such but ultimately.. It doesn't matter.. No one is going to whip out their sales receipt to win you over.

Quite sure that many did preorder physical copies directly from the manufacturer. I've preordered games straight from the manufacturer and they always showed up 3 - 5 days early. By the same token I am sure that some people pirated the game also. To call someone a "pirate" is to call them a thief. I was just saying to GoldenTiger that some people did receive their copies early so please don't make an assumption that the person complaining about performance is playing a pirated copy. Sure I didn't say that, but I'm sure that he comprehended the tone of my statement and read between the lines.

Now of course I didn't read the entire thread. Maybe the person that GoldenTiger directed the comment to admitted to pirating the game. If so I apologize for not keeping up with the thread 100%. :)

Yeah, because they almost definitely don't have them anyway. You can pretty readily tell the scumbags whining here didn't buy it, and the number of people who would have ordered a physical copy direct from ubi at no discount and be posting here is just this side of none. There's not an issue of white knighting anything, there's just pirates and people calling them out as being scum.

Plenty of people on neogaf showed proof of their Ubi orders arriving early. So you can't say for certain unless they provided evidence. And honestly with your hostility I wouldn't show you proof anyway.

physical discs arriving early doesn't mean much in this age of online activation...Watch Dogs uses Uplay...unless Uplay/Ubisoft unlocked the game early it makes no sense

I wouldn't even bother commenting on it further. A few members have decided to try and make the early downloading (even with a purchased license) or playing of this game a capital offense. There's far worse being done in this world to take a stand for. If someone wants to download a game and play it without paying for it, that is a moral choice they will have to deal with. It's not like they're out punching babies to get cdkeys or something.

It's not illegal to circumvent UPlay. In fact, it's generally recommended :)
It may violate a ToS somewhere, but that's one for contract law.

Back on point...

Having watched a lot of streams, it seems like the game plays well indoors. But the open-world play seems incomplete. I can't quite put my finger on it and maybe my opinion would change with hands on use. But there is something it lacks that other OW games (RDR,Sleeping Dogs, etc) possess. If this title gets to a sequel, I think it might be impressive. Is that the general consensus? It almost seems like they took the good parkour movement of the AC series, some of the ideas from Splinter Cell, and did a lackluster job tacking on modern things like vehicles.

Oh, certainly. The majority of users in this thread purchased the game from Ubisoft, for full price, for a physical copy, despite Steam availability.

Puh-lease.

[strike=1]Steam[/s] Ubisoft just delayed unlock time by 12hrs
Seems dumb. Considering everyone and their mother is already playing the game, wouldn't it make sense to reward their legitimate customers?

It's back to a Midnight release. There was like an hour where you couldn't even buy it on Steam.

It could revert back. I remember Bioshock Infinite doing the same.
