Bad Company 2

I just got BF3 when it was on sale (ended my no steam no BF3) but if it had AT4 I would've bought it from day one even if it required facebook and iphone and had an anti-steam logo :D

Why the the hate on Facebook and the iPhone?

Thread necro, but for a good reason.

Anyone still playing this? Have some freezing/sound loop issues about 20-25 minutes into the game, getting really annoying. Apparently it's linked to either PunkBuster, Sound Drivers, or a combination of both. I've no Realtek drivers on my system, and everything is updated for PunkBuster. Most up to date drivers for all components as well, yet it still crashes. By crash, I mean it locks up the entire computer, forcing me to do a reboot.

Temperatures seem fine across the spectrum, so it can't be that. Not sure what else it could be, and Google hasn't exactly been helpful. I've tried a bunch of fixes, like lowering sound quality, turning sound off entirely, making sure onboard audio is disabled, swapping the RCore.cfg name to something else in the PunkBuster files, etc. At one point I read MSI Afterburner could be an issue, but I deleted it and got EVGA Precision instead, which I do like better, but that seems to crash it too. I've also tried playing without monitoring software.

Running out of ideas.

had it completely lock up my computer last night. i don't have a solution, just letting you know that i share in your misery.

after playing the BF4 beta for 2 weeks BF3 has lost some of it's shimmer for me. well that and i've put 650 hours in since release so i'm burned out. i started playing BC2 again. forgot how bitchin this game is.

Filthy Carl.

i was slinging around the AT4 last night. missed everything in sight aside from an exceptionally slow moving boat.

try to run the CPU and Video card at default speed. I remember some OC settings would pass prime95 and not pass this game!

I haven't touched anything OC'ing wise, but the GPU is factory overclocked, if that counts for whatever.

This game kicks ass, and it's a shame I can't really enjoy it.

update punkbuster manually + run sfc /scannow in CMD + updated realtek sound drivers

and try this

- Click the Start button, open Control Panel >> Sound.
- Right click on your audio device, then click Properties.
- Open Advanced tab, select 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) from the dropdown menu, then click OK.

Open the folder 'BFBC2"
Find and open the file 'settings.ini' in notepad
Locate the line 'SpeakerCount='
Change the value after '=' to '1' (without the quotes obviously). It should read 'SpeakerCount=1'

I remember I used the first one to fix a sound problem in Skyrim.

I've updated PunkBuster manually, and have done the scan in CMD. I'm not sure why I would need to update Realtek drivers, when I don't even use Realtek...? Will it trick the game into thinking everything's copacetic?

I'm on that particular CD quality now.

I read about that SpeakerCount setting, so that's one thing I can try I suppose, thanks for gathering up some more of these tips.

great to see that there is still some interest in this game.

tried BF4 Beta but couldn't get used to it.

For sure, game kicks pure ass. It just feels very high quality and special, whereas BF3 only made me feel like I was playing a modern day shooter.

When it's running for me that is...hopefully I can dig down into what is causing the freezing.

Just got back into playing this game, I had a lot of fun , here is my score at the end of the map, not too bad for a 2 year break imo :)

well now i want to play Arica Harbor. nice round.
Thanks

at4 was the best, I play that game just to shoot heli's

Heh, yeah its pretty fun. I saw a youtube video of a guy shooting down choppers with an RPG7, it was quite amazing. Can't seem to find the video now, it was a long time ago.

I've missed this game as well.

So what are the grievances against BF4 that you all are having?

The SP campaign is this is still one of my favorites. It's short but god damn it's fangoddamntastic. From the characters to the story.. It just nails it.. I may have to download this again myself

nothing on my end. as far as i'm concerned the BF franchise goes like this: 2142 > BF4 > BF3 > BC2 > BF2 > BF1942.

i'm absolutely loving BF4.

I liked the SP as well but, honestly, I enjoyed the campaign from the first BC more; too bad it was never on PC.

BC2 eschewed the lighter tone for something darker and more serious. In my opinion it was a mistake; the characters just seemed much more *alive* in the first Bad Company. In a genre laden with games that take themselves so seriously, was it so bad to have one that was actually funny at times?

Mainly Origin. And I didn't really get into BF3. For me BC2 is perfect. I don't need another one at the moment, it also has the Vietnam expansion to keep me interested.

I always called that shit Africa Harbor :D:p

That map did have some funny HDR though, the one section was completely White because it was so bright :p

Redownloading now. BF3 and 4 just didn't do it for me.

For some reason I thought BC2's graphics were more impressive than BF3 or BF4. Maybe that is because of when it came out, but there is something about BF3 and BF4 that really bothers me and I can't really put my finger on it. The only real downside to BC2 was the terrible hit registration and some clunkyness.

More like Bloom Company 2

Hmm .... mine doesn't look like that. Played a round on Atacama last night actually. Shot down 3 helicopters with the AT4 and went 21-4 for the round.

Git gud skrubz etc. etc.

HFSM. This game just feels so much better. Hit reg is better than I remember and it runs so smooth.

BC2 is my favorite all time FPS... better than BF3/4 from a pure enjoyment standpoint.

Flying C4 4wheelers, rem870/slugs sniping... LOL!

Enjoyment? Yes. I rather play BC2 than BF3. But...
BF3 is a more polished game.

Some people have memory loss because the hitreg in BC2 was terrible.
I often had to shoot ahead of player models.

BF3 had it's own faults but shooting was more satisfying. Also prone.

What I liked most about BFBC2 is how the vehicles were integrated. I don't know why, but I enjoyed them in that more than any other Battlefield game(BF2 I hated them, only did infantry servers). Then again, I mostly played Rush and it felt like they weren't as important.

Playing the other night the hit reg felt pretty good.

I'm just glad the game works again.. It was broke for a few months...

But yes BC2 is hella fun.

This. BFBC2 was good but nostalgia is overrated. Can't even strafe left/right while running - for that reason alone I haven't gone back since BF3.
