Crap like this bothers me. And Google wonders why Glass has such a bad reputation?

A woman wearing Google Glass was recently asked to remove the computer—infamous for publicized recordings taken by its entitled owners—before having brunch at a popular East Village restaurant called Feast. In retaliation, the diner and her 3,000-plus Google+ followers have extracted a search engine optimized pound of flesh.

The best way to drive a Glass owner absolutely apeshit? Pretend like they aren't wearing them, don't ask about them, talk about them, nothing. If they bring them up, change the subject immediately. :D

Today's Dilbert was on this topic:

I blame it on the fake nerds. You know the type. Now that the era of the nerd has arrived they're all jumping ship and trying to fit in bringing their douchebaggery with them.

I wish I would run into someone wearing those. Living in the Austin area I have a feeling I will.

Is there something someone could wear inconspicuously to prevent a glasshole from capturing their face on a recording?

If not, who is working on it?

Nope, no way any of these glass nerds are ever getting assaulted or robbed... this will surely end well for all.

Crap like this really ___ me?

The bottom line is people are dicks. Google glass is nothing but a tech strap-on. Stop waving it in public. You're no Ron Jeremy. Who's more annoying a person with an Amazon Segway or a person with Google Glasses? Out here the mall cops have both. BTW mall cops are such assholes.

Once again the technophobes on oftForum our in full anti-technology mode.

I didn't know one had to accept all technological innovations as good things in order to avoid the "technophobe" label. But then, this is a society dependent on trigger warnings to protect their fragile feelings from being bruised, so I guess anyone who doesn't like having multiple cameras and microphones trained on them in public is just some ultra neo-Luddite with sabot in hand.

Because, you know...real technophiles are fine with a surveillance society in light of the NSA revelations. Go beat rocks together, neanderthals!

To be fair if the restaurant is going to discriminate against one technology they should do it to all including security cameras that record everyone all the time, phones, pocket cameras, etc. Not much difference from racial discrimination when restaurants used to turn away certain people.

Your life isn't interesting enough to warrant public surveillance, don't worry about it. ;)

1. Note underlined.
2. I would absolutely have a problem with you if you pointed your phone in my face out of nowhere.

My apartment isn't interesting enough to warrant a search, either. Doesn't mean you're free to root through it.

Everytime I see the word "sabot" I think of Star Trek VI.

Yes, discriminating against someone based on the color of their skin is no different from telling someone to put away their face-mounted recording device.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ. Society is fucking doomed.

I think most people when they see someone video recording without their consent on a cellphone would object similarly. Difference here, you never know if/when someone is recording with the damn thing to voice objection.

Hell, I've given people death looks when they are blatantly recording me with cellphones doing what I do without permission and tell them to knock it off and learn some manners to ask next time.

You must be joking right?
Using a phone in the restaurant for talking is rude, but not uncommon.
When somebody decides to record you with their cell phone, you'd probably notice it and most likely give them some way of knowing you're not amused about it (frown, mean face, get up and bitch-slap them). Now with Glass, and self-absorbed douchebag can record, take pics, etc without you even noticing for the most part...
I take offense to shit like that.

Bottom line here is, if you need to wear a fucking computer in front of your eyes to all day long, everywhere you go, you're a FUCKING LOSER and need to get a life.

The woman that did this and all her "friends" fit that description perfectly...

So the moral of this is, people who were douchebags before google glass, continue to be douchebags After google glass as well.

I know..shocker right?

This is no where near the same..

A phone is obvious when it is on and filming and how often do you see people with their cell phones up filming ever second they are at a location? You don't.

Also a restaurant is a private establishment, and thus if they do not like you wearing glass because of complaints from other patron's, pull you're head out of you're you know what and have a little respect for other's around you.

This woman and her band of 3k followers sound like nothing but a self absorb person who has no respect for others around her and simple does what she wants and her mindless followers will do what ever she says...

It'll be funny when you start hearing that people are wearing handkerchiefs to cover there fasces while they run up snatch the glass right off the persons face and then smash it and run off.

I can't believe they call themselves "Explorers" and think they're some sort of clique.

Also assaulting the restaurants ratings because they won't let you wear a stupid pair of glasses is sophomoric. I left the restaurant a five-star review even though I've never heard of the place.

omg I hate the no edit button on these post. Should be faces not fasces. sigh

No one is going through your apartment. When you're in a public place you have no right privacy. CCTV and such.. you are almost always under some sort of surveillance. What someone feels is important enough to archive is subject to opinion.

For those calling this reaction "technophobic"...just imagine you're eating with someone who, EVERY SINGLE SECOND, is holding up their smartphone in front of their face and viewing you through the camera. When the waiter comes, they keep the phone in front of their face. In fact, it's in front of their face the entire time, except for the several minutes they keep taking it down only to show it to you and to tell you how it's the greatest thing ever. He puts the phone back up to his face before telling you you're an asshole to complain about it.

Private property like a business is not a public place.

Ignorance is the root of discrimination. Someone can pretend to use their phone and record you and you wouldn't know it when there are ways to silence the shutter sound. With Google Glass you have to verbally say "ok glass, take a picture" or touch the camera button which is a lot more obvious. Do you wear a computer called a phone in your purse or pocket all day then you're guilty of what you preach.

Technically it is, can the owner escort you out or refuse business to you? Yes of course, I see nothing wrong with being kicked out for wearing google glass, it is managements choice.

Public places are paid for by tax dollars and are own/operated by government agencies. While there are some places that serve food, like military cafeterias, a restaurant is private property and people dining there are not in a public place. An expectation of privacy is totally reasonable.
