What's the word on this 27" 2560x1440?

Reviews seem to be a little scarce but if this: http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monitor/aoc-q2770pqu-p17978/test.html is accurate we could be on to a winner. :D

Panel type: S-PLS

The Dells are all still plagued with bad backlight bleed, Asus 27" is the same but costs more, BenQ BL2710PT isn't available in the UK nor is the Viewsonic and the new Hazro's probably still have trapped dust.

Interesting, it's currently 355 pounds on amazon uk making it the cheapest 1440p monitor available to a lot of europeans. Tempted to order one, but I don't really have the experience or the gear to properly test it.

It's around £400 from reputable stores.

The only other 27" worth considering is the Ilyama XB2779QS as it's glossy and has up to 1100:1 contrast but lot's of reports of dead pixels & bleed.

Amazon is the most reputable 'store' out there.

Amazon.co.uk and Fulfilled by Amazon don't sell it.
Overclockers UK have the best customer service hands down anyway. Ebuyer 2nd.

Ebuyer, Dabs & Scan have it available currently. :)

That Iiyama is shit with brightness not going below 140 cd/m2.
Stay away.

I just noticed that B&H has a place for this monitor on their site, with a current list price of $599 in US Dollars. This is the first major US retailer I've seen carrying this display. From the reviews I've read it is pretty good. At least it is another 1440p monitor option. I just ordered a VP2770 so I won't be getting this one, but I noticed it for the first time when placing my Viewsonic order.

Also available at Newegg, and on premier. Almost ordered one but gonna try the Danger Den Ultra monitor first.

I'll be doing a half-assed review of this monitor next week. The Danger Den Ultra lived up to its name and is costing me money already since I forgot to send the stupid power brick back. The best part about that monitor was insanely good color out of the box and really nice gradients, not much color banding as shades gradually shift. The worst part was the severe IPS glow from all 4 corners and back it went... mostly.

This AOC should be much more uniform and we're starting to get close to EV2736w money here so, that will be my next step if this monitor doesn't meet the following standards:
1)100% pixel perfect. I do not want any stuck or bright pixels, even. I'm obsessive over that.
2)Zero to Light glow and/or bleeding--if it's moderate (and that will be the trick) then I'll try the Eizo.

Well ladies and gentleman, I think we have a winner. This monitor is wonderful. The measured contrast ratio of 795:1 on my unit does not give it justice for how well it reproduces dark photos and movie scenes.

The black is not as deep as ideal, but the grayscale shading is outstanding.

It is completely glow and bleed free aside from a feint gray shading on white in the bottom right corner the size of a pea. That is literally the only defect. Black screen is completely uniform to my eye. Its pixel response seems a tic faster than the Qnix 2710 with both at 60Hz---Medium overdrive on the AOC unit is fantastic, imo. Very good looking UFO test. None of the color presets quite matched the Qnix, which is pretty much spot on out of the box, but a quick profiling of both with my i1 display pro and they are the same temperature. Run. Don't walk.

Edit: I recalibrated more carefully, and I changed the luminance to a custom figure (128 cd/m2), which is the closest the Qnix can get to 120 without going under. The Qnix measured CR 970:1. Obviously contrast ratio isn't the whole story on dark color production, because the AOC spanks the Qnix with grayscale.
AOCCR_zps067b52fa.png~original

After futzing around I realized I was getting the same readings for both monitors so I retested the AOC after a factory reset (& recalibration) and got a contrast ratio of 795:1.
Here's the AOC black screen test long exposure composite:

and here are the 2 new monitors next to each other (AOC Q2770PQU on left, Qnix QX2710 on right):

I ordered the Q2770PQU last night from Amazon. It should be here Tuesday. I also have the Asus PB278Q that I can compare with the AOC side-by-side.

I got a good Asus, but I pulled the trigger and bought if from Micro Center before reading about PWM. I have eye issues and I don't think PWM will help. It does look good though.

One of them will be going back. MC price matched the Asus with Amazon & NE. The AOC is almost the same price as I paid local taxes on the Asus. I have read all the reviews and it sounds really good. I will take my time checking it out. Will have to rely on various settings and suggestions I have read about to "calibrate" it. Like the Medium overdrive suggestion from Bluesun.

I always thought of AOC as a second tier brand, at least here in the U.S. so we'll see.

Edit: B&H and Amazon are now the same price at $549.

What is the white line running across the bottom of the screen on the AOC? Are you keeping both monitors?

That line is just the start menu bar. I sent the AOC back for being "too slow" but that was a stretch. I miss the grayscale accuracy of the unit but for dedicated gamers with gpu power the overclockers are good enough to reject 60hz. I was hoping it would do 75hz but nope. Speed aside it was the finest monitor I've ever seen.

That is very reassuring! I'm not gaming anymore so that's not a factor for me.

For others considering this monitor, I found an ICC profile here: http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-mo...ion-profiles-your-monitor-a424/aoc-ap429.html

The translation from French is: In order to best optimize the use of this profile, please enter the following settings in the menu screen. Brightness: 58
Color Temps : User Red 49 Green 50 Blue 48

Found AOC's on their site.

I just got this the other day. It's 100% backlight-bleed-free with no dead pixels and no noticeable tone shifts. It certainly doesn't seem low-end to me except maybe the OSD buttons are a little cheesy.

One thing I noticed is that the lower left & right corners (1/4"x1/4" or so) are slightly darker than the rest of the panel. It's not at all like the z24i I tried a few months back where there were huge patches of dark--much more subtle. I'm curious whether any other folks with the AOC have noticed it. I'm starting to think maybe it's inherent to Samsung's LED edge-lighting design, as if the LEDs just don't go completely to the edge. Am I being too anal here? I see the phenomenon a lot on edge-lit televisions, and all my previous monitors have been CRT or CCFL (and the CCFL was a low-end ASUS model with pretty poor uniformity).

At the next opportunity I'll crank it up and snap some pictures for anyone interested.

My AOC Q2770PQU had this and I mentioned it in my Newegg review. It's very minor. I've seen other designs with this issue, from Viewsonic.

Same here with the Asus. Someone suggested it's caused by the tightness of the bezel at the corners. I don't know if that's the reason, but it made sense to me. I also see it a little fainter at the top corners. It's easy to not notice and I had forgotten about it until I read the etooeys post.

Edit: I contacted FedEx and asked them to hold mine so I don't have to worry about delivery time while at work. I'll pick it up after work tomorrow.

Without seeing pictures, I'd say this is normal. My Viewsonic VP2770 has a slightly darker lower right corner. Both of my monitors at work have darker right corners and those are completely different TN panels. I was also following the Z24i thread because I was thinking about purchasing one of those, none of mine look nearly as bad as the Z24i you posted. I only notice the slightly dark corners on full white test screens, so it really isn't an issue for me. And its important to note I'm not talking about a big dark patch, this is a tiny slight darkening in the corner, less than 1/4 of an inch.

Thanks! Indeed it matches your description--1/4" or less. Just wanted to make sure mine wasn't in some way exceptionally bad. The Z24i's were pretty bad, and I might have tried a pair of those except all the retailers have raised their prices.

My AOC arrived a day early! It was supposed to be ready for pick up on Tuesday.

All I have done is a very cursory check for dead/stuck pixels, check panel uniformity and load the AOC INF & ICM profile. It's very sunny and light right now and will have to wait until dark to check it more thoroughly. Also, noticed the serial number was where the DVI cable goes and wrote it down so I could register this. It only came with a DVI, D-sub, CD and power cable. On hold for tech support to have them clarify this excerpt from the manual. "Not all signal cables (Analog , Audio, DVI, USB, DP, MHLand HDMI cables) will be provided for all countries and regions. Please check with the local dealer or AOC branch office for confirmation".

Initial thoughts on how it compares to the Asus PB278Q: Asus seems to have slightly better build quality but not in any significant way. In fact it's mostly trivial like the stand being beefier and the ring that attaches the arm is thicker and therefor easier to grab hold of. The Asus has a stiffer arm whereas the AOC tends to slide more easily. (This may be a good thing). I will miss being able to turn off the power light. Though this one is not obtrusive and nothing an applied Post It can't fix. All cables were included with the Asus such as DVI, DP, HDMI and audio cable.

I will NOT miss the PWM of the Asus. Initially I intended to have them side-by-side for a comparison. As soon as I powered this on no shimmering! I moved the Asus off of my desk. I don't know what word to use to describe it except it seemed to shimmer. The whites seem whiter and the blacks richer on the AOC. Text is easy to read. I haven't even touched the OSD yet. This monitor is IMO gorgeous and in the 2 hours I've used it so far, it's great. I had no idea how PWM free looked and how much of a difference it made.

Will edit my post after closer inspection and after what tech support says about the cables. Were the contents the same for anyone else in the U.S.? EDIT: Just got off the phone with Tech Support and he is going to research the lack of cables. First he said it was standard cables and when I complained he said this is such a new model, it may have been overlooked when pushed out. He said he will email me what he finds out. I planned on using DVI so for me personally it's okay, but not for someone else's preferred signal preference.

Prices at Amazon have gone up to $569.29 since I ordered mine on the 9th. New Egg is still $549.

I thought the included i-Menu software sounded interesting and it works flawlessly. No more OSD buttons to mess with! All on screen menus now. I used the settings from here: http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monitor/aoc-q2770pqu-p17978/test.html Green & Blue were already at 50 as was Red. Lowered Red to 49. Lowered the brightness to their recommended 59 which I can always lower if I want. EDIT: 59 is way too bright for white backgrounds. Lowered to 40 and still a bit bright. i-Menu makes it so easy to change settings.

Yep, same story here. I'm using DisplayPort to my Macbook using a cable I already had.

Yes, I'd say it is normal the way you described it. Of course I can't tell for certain without having the monitors side by side.

Tech Support sent a PDF called spec.pdf. No idea how he found it as I cannot. EDIT: Turns out the PDF was from product marketing, If anyone want's it, PM me.

What's in the Box
27” Monitor, Foot stand, Power Cord, VGA Cable, Audio cable, DVI cable, USB cable, Media (includes drivers, AOC Software, User’s Manual, Warranty)

Will be calling them again as I did not get the audio or USB cable. If I sell this at some point, it should contain everything it's supposed to.

Think it's pretty cheap to not include HDMI or DP.

HDMI cannot support 1440p so it's not particularly surprising they wouldn't include it. Display Port has serious issues in Windows with Nvidia drivers as I understand it. There is a workaround but I much prefer DVI. The fact your USB cable was missing is odd... how are you controlling the software to change the menu settings from within windows, because that is the cable that allows the OSD software to function.

I prefer DVI as well and it's not a big deal at all but the Asus came with all the connection types and costs less. I suspect this will drop in price at some point too.

Mac users need to know about no Display Port cable though.

Tech support said they will be sending the audio and USB cable.

Hopefully I can do a good pixel inspection tonight and then I can remove the sticker from the bezel with the meercat.

Bit confused. Yuo said USB cable is required to use OSD ? Wonder how that will work on linux. Perhaps you mean OSD software (which is what you said); but the OSD buttons still work without cables :)

So I had been looking for a 27 inch monitor for some period of time (6+ months?) and decided to try one of these. A few comments on the monitor I received this afternoon. It only had 3 cables (vga, dvi, power). The OSD is pretty lame but I think I will only have to adjust this once. Currently I see no bleed no massive glow and no dead/stuck pixels but will double check tomorrow morning when I get up (I normally get up before sun-rise). I was a moron and the monitor does in-fact have an adjustable height. It shipped in highest position. I would really like to lower the monitor 6 or 8 inches. Oh yea the things is very bright. I set brightness down to 17% and it is still too bright :) Will lower it to 5%.
-
I can't tell for sure if the screen is calibrated but it is mega better than my old u2311 with regards to colour fidelity (looking at high resolution scans).
-
The lower right corner is a bit darker than the rest of the monitor; not sure why but it isn't a deal breaker.
-
Any suggestion on how to lower the stand :)

Bluesun was teasing me. No cable needed for i-Menu. It's on the included CD. It's an app that let's you manage the OSD settings on screen instead of using the OSD buttons.

My #1 complaint is that the stand is too high and cannot be adjusted (or in this specific case lowered).
Any suggestion on how to lower the stand :)

Did you remove all the shipping tape from it? You just push down on the display. It will lower so that the bezel is about 1" from the desk.

That wasn't the issue; I was just being a moron and didn't realize the inner bar slid down. Can't get audio to work; not sure if it is my system or the monitor. Also there is a box in the middle of the back no clue what it does (it has a tab like it should open). I run ubutnu 12.04 using display port (hd3000). I tried an audio cable but that didn't seem to work either.

Audio is really minor for me was mostly just curious. Checked the monitor again this morning; doesnt' seem to be any dead of stuck pixel; virtually no bleed (didn't notice any but I'm sure there has to be a little :) ); there is some glow but not enough to yelp about. Really no complaints (though i would like to get the speakers to work for sake of completeness). The one odd thing about the speaker is the system detects them (/var/log/messages) when I plug in the cable. Hum. Did i mention that the lower left corner is quite a bit darker then the rest of the screen - i think there is bazel pressure there to ensure no light bleed.

I read in a review somewhere that it serves no purpose.

I would shoot tech support a question about the audio cable. They are pretty quick to respond.

FWIW, I hooked up the USB hub this morning. It's the blue one next to the four black ones underneath on side where AOC is stamped on the back. (Not the USB 3 on the side). Plug the B end of the USB cable into monitor and the A flat end into PC. Not very accessible, but plugged in a nano unifying receiver from Logitech and tried various USB sticks. Works.

Interestingly enough, tech support rep sent me an email and said they do not have a physical monitor to reference as they are on back order.

Ok. I've sent them an email will see what they said. I tried plugging my cell phone in via audio cable and couldn't get any sound of out them. Does your speakers work ?

I have speakers and do not plan on using the ones on the monitor.

Audio Out works for me. It shows as a 48 kHz DAC over DisplayPort. I have my speakers connected to the Audio Out port. The sound coming from it seems slightly muffled compared to the audio output from my Mac, but that could be equalizer settings too. I wasn't particularly expecting dazzling sound though.

Also there is a box in the middle of the back no clue what it does (it has a tab like it should open).

That looks to me like an attachment point for a cheaper non-telescoping stand.

How much of the corner? Both lower left and lower right corners are darker on mine, but over a smallish area. The larger lower corner regions are slightly darker in a way that's consistent with every other LED edge-lit monitor I've seen.

Here is a shot of an all-white screen that shows (and somewhat exaggerates) luminance, followed by a shot of an all-black screen at 100% brightness. The second photo shows that there IS some backlight bleed along the top edge. I didn't see it until the camera picked it up. I couldn't get a reasonable shot in a dark room.

I was actually confused about that. I didn't test the USB crap I just assumed you needed to connect the USB cable in order for the software to work. That's how it is with our Eizo FG2421, which was the first display I ever had that bundled OSD software control. It can seriously control the OSD with just the DVI cable connected??

Yes, just popped the CD in and ran the executable. So I guess it's pretty cool since no other cable other than DVI is used. Page 49 of user manual has a screen shot of it. http://us.aoc.com/support/documents/pdf/documents/838 There are a couple of other little apps on the CD. One is called Screen+ (page 50) and I will probably will install too. http://www.aocmonitorap.com/root/anz/product_display.php?id=512 Click on features tab.

The USB ports are basically a hub as they do not work independently without a USB square B end plugged into the monitor and flat A end plugged into PC USB port. Nice that 2 of the 4 are USB 3.0 but a PITA to get to except for the side mounted one by the charger port. I used one port for a Logitech nano USB receiver for mouse & KB that stays plugged in.

Can you try plugging in a cell phone or something via audio cable and see if it work? I could not get audio out or speakers to work with pc or cell phone. I run linux so it might be soemthing with my pc but i thought for sure the cell phone would work or maybe display port disable audio in ?

The corners - it is mostly the lower right - I woudl say 1/2 inch square. I have the clock on my silver panel there so it is more noticeable than perhaps it should be (i.e, the clock draws my eye so i notice it - to be honest after the second day I stopped noticing...

I really have no complaints. While I dont;' really intend to use the spakers I woudl still like to get them to work :)

I just tried this for you and can confirm that the audio-in does not function when using DisplayPort. I don't have a way to test with the other inputs.

After trying it for a week there are two things that bug me:

1. The lower 1/3 at the right hand side is noticeably dark (see my post above). It reminds me in some ways of the Z24i although it is not as severe. Could you take a picture of all-white to see the uniformity?
2. The minimum brightness is a bit too bright for night use. I have to turn the contrast down
to get in dim enough. This affects daily usage so it would be nice if there were another workaround.

Debating whether to try this again!

I cranked mine up to 100% brightness for blacks and white to check. My room is not completely dark as the sun is coming up. I didn't notice any darkness except for a tiny bit in the bottom right corner and a very faint difference in the bottom left corner. By tiny, it's not as big as an almond but a bit bigger than a pea. My brightness is set at 30 and my Win 7 task bar covers it so I don't even see it during normal use. I do have some IPS glow on the right towards bottom, but it's a tad brighter.

As far as 2 goes, how far back are you sitting as this monitor isn't supposed to be overly bright according to a couple of reviews.

What are you debating? Testing it again, a swap or a different brand monitor?
