Google Glass Parts Estimated to Cost Less Than $80

I stopped reading at $3 display.

Also, the current Google Glass is essentially a developer edition. I don't hear people complaining that the Moto X Developer edition is $449.99, while the subsidized Moto X is $0.01.

The PS4/Xbone cost SONY/Microsoft billions to develop and design, and they're selling them AT A LOSS, the hardware they are putting into them is more expensive than what they are selling it for
It was the same with the last generation but over maybe 1-2 years, consoles become cheaper to produce and eventually turn a profit. Not to mention that publishers also have to pay royalties to MS/Sony/Nintendo just to make and distribute games for consoles.

so do glasses.

Not saying I think Glass is worth or costs anywhere near $1500. But I'm not convinced that it only costs $80 in parts either. Not sure all those prices are really accurate. And I think the actual housing of Google Glass is quite a bit smaller than that of a smart phone. So wouldn't some of these parts possibly cost more to miniaturize and specially build for this unique form factor?

I can't really guess what it costs in parts. $80 just seems a little low to me.

Regardless I also didn't understand why Google charged $1500 for a prototype (not even beta ready really) project to help Google develop applications for. People paid a small fortune and probably far more than the product is really worth, to develop for, test, and publicize for Google. Google doesn't need to sell prototypes of their products to recover R&D costs. I can only guess they are also beta testing the price people are willing to pay as well?

It is Just like high end anything. As long as you can control how many are made then you can keep the price up. flood the market and price drops. flood the market more and then worthless. which they really are since you can get any camera to mount to hat, shirt. and upload till battery's die

[H] reported, back when it was rolling out, how Google mentioned that $1500 was the price just for taking part in this test of Google Glass and all that comes with it, and that the final product will not be $1500, but instead far lower, comma comma comma, comma.
