Lone Industries L2: Dual slot version of L1 anyone?

Is your DAC/AMP externally powered? With my Pico, anything I plugged in had noise issues. Tried a few USB powered DACs and DSP units.

It is externally powered, yes. Although I did go without it for a week with no noticeable issues.It's just a simple DIY PPA amp. Whatever the issue is hopefully the people affected are an outlier. What product in particular did you have?

What is the max load it can handle the PSU? on the 12V? as the PICOPSU-160-XT can handle 15A on the 12V rail for a total of 180W (peak) which is enough to power an i7 and a 750ti

Max it can handle is 12A before it triggers a shutdown :( which is 144W this may be enough to power an i7 and a 750ti....

There's some trade-offs for sure, both PSUs according to their specs require fans even at rated max load of 8A ( I really doubt the 160-XT 12V is looking anything near good at 15A(only spec'd for 60 sec), that's 180W right there). Fanless operation requires a derating of 20% for either one from 8A.

So far, even under Prime95 I've not seen the CPU draw much above 55W at standard clocking, close to fanless spec but I used an oversized HSF to help cool the PSU anyway. I'm usually in the 10-25W range for most of what I'm doing.

I'd go with that 250W/400W HD plex for a video card.

Pardon my intrusion into this interesting topic but would you guys please show em the rope regarding PicoPSU info? I'm currently residing in Bangladesh and was worried about all the 110v~220/240 power factor correction. Last time I ordered a product electrical wise, it dropped my circuit breaker on the mains thus the inherent caution of getting something with no clue of it being compatible in my end...:)

Please lend me your ears !
 
The hdplex order page has a $15 discount if you select you own one of their chassis. It is weird that is how they verify by just selecting yes...

The power factor correction takes place in the power brick, the Johnny Guru site tested some 12V and 19V bricks for PFC. Not sure it's really spec'd on most bricks, but you can use the efficiency if spec'd as a general guide. It's easier to get a higher power 19V brick and I think the efficiency is generally better at rated power for those.

So do people recommend the HD Plex 250 W now? I was going to go with a Pico PSU. I plan on running the specs below:

Looking great, price is also reasonable. I was eyeing it but I think I've realized that half-height cards aren't too common for me to make the jump. Let alone figuring out a PSU solution is a two part affair. Yes cards can be had, but I can't bum a used one off at a good price over at the FS forum section as easily =p.

Would love an expanded version that allowed regular card, on a pci-riser with a small tfx psu or something.

I think it just depends how much headroom and cleanliness of build you want, some have reported running HD-7750 based cards with intel CPUs off of the 160W-XT no problem I think in the original L1 thread. But just be aware of the ratings game on these pico-sized plugin PSUs, as they do get hot when loaded and the 12V rails are not that beefy.
 
I just went to order an L2 but it says out of stock. Is this permanent?

You can go ahead an pre-order. They are already in production, but there are still extra available. The "out of stock" wording seems to be confusing. I'm not sure if "Not in stock" would be better. I want it to be clear that it's available for pre-order, and is not in stock yet. Maybe just that, or "available". :)

Stevo_ - Thanks for the info bro! I'm was a little skeptical about going ahead with a power brick but from the links I'm reading provided from this thread, I'm leaning more towards getting a power brick from, my end here, in Bangladesh.

Here's how I see the HDPlex unit;
1| aesthetically it looks the bomb
2| Is modular and is a good thing to work around with overall
3| has more connector options
4| possible to sleeve the entire kitted wires without fear as the connectors are modular
5| cablemanagement
6| more expensive but you get the added headroom for pooping in more components. I know an i7-4770K paired with a 750Ti is absurd but there is the option to not using the unit's full potential and run cooler and also for a good number of years without worry.

Found a deal on a laptop brick that also is recommended by HDPlex

For those that are thinking of getting the HD Plex unit now. Where in the case are you going to put the board? The reason I'm planning on getting the case is because it's tiny but that doesn't leave much room. The HD Plex looks like it has the ability to be mounted.
 
Since I'm using the A10-6800k, not looking at a discrete GPU. I can have 2 80mm fans at the bottom and the top 80mm mounts will be left barren. I'm looking at mounting the unit running parallel to the top.

Offers a chance at cablemanagement as you can run the wires under mobo. Another pointer would be the possibility of creating a stack effect with the bottom fans...

You could also place it in the space between the mobo and ssd mounts

though I can't say for sure about the spacing between those two points.

I ran a HD7750 with an i3-3225 on the 160W Pico. It was fine.
 
ETA update: Cases should go to powder coater by May 7. I'm estimating the finished cases will be to me by May 20, at which time I'll start shipping in the order that I received the pre-orders.

Most would probably put it where the 2.5" drives would go (using plastic adhesive backed standoffs), and mount the 2.5" drives at a 90 degree angle off the original mounting position, or put a single drive somewhere else.

I wouldn't personally recommend this type of PSU, simply because I haven't tried it, and because it's not what the case was designed for. It may be possible though, especially for people who are really good at custom wiring, etc. You'd want a back up plan (PicoPSU, PICO-BOX, etc) in case it doesn't work out.
 
I thought you get everything you'd need (to run a machine inside the L1/2) included inside the box courtesy of HD Plex and the only additional device necessary for purchase is the laptop power brick.

Is anyone thinking about cutting their GTX 750 Ti Slim heatsink down so they can use an 80x15 mm fan to cool it?! I'm wondering about taking stock GTX 750 Ti Slim heatsinks, and having them custom machined into a single slot width profile optimized for the L2 and an 80x15mm fan. Not sure how much it'd cost though.

It looks like I will have to go with a gloss white instead of matte white. The only matte white option I have just looks too grey in person. The matte white I was hoping to use turned out to not be a stocked colour.

As you can see in this photo, under most conditions you won't even be able to tell it's glossy (the one on the left). :)

EDIT: Thinking I will still go with matte white after all. Both whites are fairly similar, and I want to respect peoples wishes for matte instead of gloss.

The idea of having a 80mm fan on top of the 750 ti slim instead of the evil little fan that comes along with the card is very interesting...
Pulling all the hot air out by the GPU is a temping thought. Though not through cutting the heatsink in half... that would probably be very hard to cool.

I'm thinking about a LAN-party machine based on a 750Ti - This would however be my first SFF build (and first "non-straight-forward" build of any kind), so I'm a bit scared to start with something *this* small.

There's four L2's still available at the moment. I'll let others comment on the ease of build. I'm a little biased. :)

Main thing I'd say is to use a motherboard with front 24-pin connector (e.g. all ASUS, some ASRock, etc). It's easiest to start with one fan, and one drive, and work from there. Adding a second fan usually requires a y-connector, unless your motherboard has two case fan headers. Short/flexible SATA cables also help.

I'm sure there's a few that I might have missed. Does anyone have any opinion on which one is the best?
 
AXP-200 is much better than those listed, and it would fit.

There is also the new Cryorig C1, which looks badass. It's probably gonna be the best low profile (sub 80mm) cooler.

The PicoPSU-160-XT seems to be the most popular DC-DC PSU used with the L1. PICO-BOX Z Series PSU's may be another option, but I don't know much about them.

Unless you also want a vented side panel, you'll want to use a CPU cooler around/under 60 mm in height (or 66 mm for the NH-L12 in single fan mode).

The AXP-100 is going to have much greater cooling capacity than the little NH-L9. I have the NH-L9i. Depending on your setup, the NH-L9 may be sufficient.
