MSI 780 GTX lightning is awesome

thanks!
very good answer for me i'm sold that's it
im getting it next on my newegg list!
gtx 780 lightning.....like the back plate with the LEDs...
just like my 7970 lightning

:)

Just got my 780 lightning in the mail yesterday and I'm super pumped!

Having a problem though. Even though I have skynet's flashed bios and my power limit set to 287% my power limit never goes above 97%. I feel like it's really holding me back and I don't know what's causing it.

I have a Seasonic x1050 gold psu and I couldn't imagine that being the issue. Also an i7 950 on an EVGA x58 mobo.

I've gotten it to run stable at 1240/+300 @1.21v but I just know it can do more, it maxes out at 67C.

Any ideas?

is your 780 lightning solved the problem?
im waiting for newegg to re-stock the 780 lightning........

BTW: on your card you can flip a switch and goto the other default bios...I have the same switch on my 7970 lightning

w35t i doubt it's a problem. It probably doesn't use more than 97% power. Mines never breaks 90% because my amp has a higher tdp then reference boards. It's supposed to be like that. 1240 is likely the limit of your gpu. Power and temp you set the limit for just decides at what point your card will throttle. You don't want it that high. 1240 is a great overclock. If you want more push voltage. Lightning can do 1.3v can't they ? Was gonna push 1.3v on mine but prob fry vrm on mine since it's reference PCB.

I bought a 780 Lightning from Microcenter 3 weeks ago. It boosts to 1202 out of the box with stock voltage and the power limit set to 109 (even though I've never seen the power go past 98). It's a B1 chip with Elpida memory. Haven't touched the memory clocks since it has little to no effect on performance. I'm very happy with it.

The reason why is as follows: You have to open up afterburner and go to: Settings->General and under Compatibility properties there is a drop down selection at default that says "standard MSI" change it to Extended MSI.

So there's no way to buy these again? Seems strange...or is a 780 Ti variant coming soon?

It's discontinued so GL with that Bro.

I had the dis pleasure of buying mine when they first dropped for $750 then watching them drop to $550 a short time after.

Just wanted to let you all know, if you don't want to go full water cooling on these cards, you don't have to in order to push the voltage past 1.3v. I have a NZXT G10 bracket with a TT AIO and it can handle a monster overclock. 1502MHz BF4 stable - 1450MHz for all other games.

I'll give this a try and see what happens.

But yea it's a monster card regardless. I'm very happy with it. Cool, quiet, burns through everything. Now I just need to get better at BF4. All I ever wanna play is CS:GO lol.

If you just click a picture and go to flickr, on the right click the (i) icon and:
camera = Sony SLT-A58
lens = DT 35mm F1.8 SAM

Or at least the image with the DSC00266 name.

Picked up one of these on eBay for around $500...has to be the best value in gaming right now if you want high-end, designed for OC...such a fun card. Just been playing with it today and it's boosting to 1280 MHz stable. A1 chip with Elpida, 88.9% ASIC quality. If I go any higher on the core than +150 I get crashes. No matter what voltage I toss at it. Funny enough, with no added voltage it OCs better. Just using the "standard" BIOS right now. Would LN2 BIOS help as I toss more volts at this?

is that the N780 msi lightning with the back plate LEDS and LN2 cap your talking about, from the above pix? :)

is the MSI 780 Lightning card still in production?...I don't see it available on Newegg or Amazon...what's the deal?

From what I understand you cannot get them anymore in NA market. I think in Europe you still can?

I might be selling mine in the future, but I will probably ask for a premium since its a B1 core that hit 1411 easily, and I have an H55 on it.

Anyway good luck finding one.

wow...why would they stop production in NA for?...it was one of the top 780 cards

Probably to make more money selling the 780ti lightning.

Which is sad because the 780 lightning was 1 badass card.

I wish I had known this before I went ahead and upgraded my full system. I had a keplerdynamic bracket (which is basically the NZXT without the ridiculous fan shroud) for a few days before deciding to go full water block. Bought a bunch of custom gear and hundreds of dollars later I read on the forums that the 780 VRMs don't even get that hot to worry too much about active cooling anyway :|

oh well, if anyone wants that bracket let me know. I have it in the forums for $15 shipped (it costs $20 shipped) but it's not doing me any good so offer away I guess...

Holy shit balls man. 1502 stable? Whats your +MV?

Might have to try a lil higher myself. 1502 is amazing!

Didn't Nvidia slap MSI's wrist though over trying to release a Lightning 780 Ti variant?

This is randomly back in stock at NewEgg brand new. Tempted to pick up another one. Love this card.

I canceled my order. I need to cut back not add more. :)

I am sure they are B1 - which means less power and cooler...so win win no matter what. Mine is an A1 and it's still great. Awesome cards.

Around 1.4v or 1400MV. In the video it's around 1.38-1.39v. Now, this is just software monitoring, so I can't say the exact voltage for sure. This is an A1 chip with Elpida.

I have actually got up to 1529Mhz with 1.46v - that was just for valley though and the score sucked because my Elpida memory sucks, and Valley loves memory clocks. Note, at this voltage I am looking at a tad bit over 800w from the wall running Valley -- That puts the card at around 500w after efficiency. I can't really go much higher because the G10 and TT Extreme can't keep up. If I had a full cover block, I would try for 1600Mhz @ 1.5-1.55v.

would you say N780 Msi Lightning way better than 7970 BE msi Lightning
Thanks

how does this compare to the eVGA Classified in terms of real world performance?

I own both (well, two 780 Classifieds and even an EVBOT) and I must say I like the 780 Lightning more. It is essentially fully unlocked with the skyn3t BIOS. The hardware is nicer, the size is better (EVGA is more vertical while MSI is fatter - depends on your preference, I guess)...and it's cheaper (when in stock) - $550 for the Lightning versus $580 for the Classified. It's a no brainer, really.

The only reason I bought the 780 Classifieds was because I was able to buy two of them used for the price of a single 780 Ti Kingpin...$425 shipped and $370 shipped. Couldn't say no at that price!!

just picked up from newegg yesterday, Very Very Awesome built and Boxed Card...

I Love my 7970BE MSI Lightning And SoftWare More :)

Tempted to buy up a used Lightning for 500$ CAN from the US with 2.4 years left on the Warranty. Most of the 780's here cost at least 600-650$ after tax. Still kicking myself for not buying a new 780 AMP! around X-mas for 500$ when they were on sale. I have nearly convinced myself that the series 8 cards (reference) are coming out in June though and would almost rather wait till fall for the 880 AMP! or Lightning.

Hi guys,
first post, wanna share some Lightnings ;) I'm a hobby graphics card collector and got some different Lightnings at home. You find pics below (GTX260, 2xHD5870, GTX580, GTX780)

My GTX780 Lightning A1 however does around 1300MHz stable and I got it to 1435MHz@+225mV in 3D Mark 11 and 1424@+225mV in all other benches (water cooling ofc). It has 72,9% ASIC.

(Hope the pics are not too big, notify me if so.)

However, I actually wanted to share something else with you guys - the newest card in my lightning collection, and by far the rarest.
It's a GTX780Ti Lightning, which is not available for consumers, and there are only 12 pieces made worldwide. ASIC is 80-81%.

(pics from eBay, card is on its way to my place in Germany, will take some on my own when it's here).

Hope you enjoy the pics.
