Google Glass - $1500

Lol. I would buy one if I had the spare cash

$1500? Not when I have to spend $1800 in a few months on a Haswell-E, X99 motherboard and DDR4 mem

I wonder what people will do in 100 years when you can get it in contacts form and it is undetectable by naked eye.

I like how the shape of the frame perfectly cradles my balls, which will make for a nice squat after flooring a glasshole at the bar.

Probably just wear it, since it will likely be how you interface with your computer. Wearable technology derived from today's experiments with Glass, Oculus and others will eventually have the ubiquity of today's cellular phones.

People said flying cars would be ubiquitous 50 years ago. They ended up being full of shit. Your prognostications have the potential for just as little validity.

If major companies had been bringing early flying cars to market 50 years ago and been doing market research with them on customers, they would at least have inspired whatever kind of car you drive today.

There's a big difference between speculating on the future of technology and actually developing it using real devices that are available for people to buy. Don't lose sight of the future or it'll pass you by. It approaches swiftly.

You literally don't have to do that at all in a few months.

On topic though, I think I'm in for a pair, want to see what all the talk is about.

Haha, talk is cheap, and also completely unnecessary of a comment for a piece of technology that someone CHOOSES to buy...

GM made a fuel-cell car 50 years ago. Guess what? The predominant mode of transport still requires burning gasoline (or diesel depending on what side of the oceans you're on) in a more-or-less traditional internal combustion engine. And fuel-cell vehicles for you and me are no more a reality now than they were then.

I don't understand the hate for GG wearers.

There are TONS of cameras recording you constantly, pretty much everywhere. Why single out google glass?

Because security cams are not typically hooked up to some jackass's YouTwitFace account.

I guess all BMW drivers are twits as well, maybe all Ferrari drivers as well?

Just got a reply back from a friend about me wanting to grab a pair, said we can't be friends anymore, jokingly of course. Now I wish I had better friends.

Edit: Didn't get the twit reference until now, I need to take a vacation. What I really was trying to say was that, there really isn't a need to bash people that wear them..I mean honestly, where is the hate coming from?

In for 5. 1 for each person in the family. We are going to sit in a circle in a public location and quietly move our heads around trying to keep the ball in the air.

Honestly, the fact that anyone can record/snapshot anything you do and upload it to their facebook/twitter/whateverthefuck scares a lot of people.

I just think they're stupid looking :p

You don't really think that's the same thing, do you? The auto companies had a vested interest in developing that technology, patenting it, and then making sure it didn't enter the market at that time. This couldn't be further from that. The companies developing this want it to be transformative, not lock it up and prevent it from transforming the market. I feel like your emotional reaction to the device itself is preventing you from actually realizing how valuable and innovative this type of technology can be.

Meh, subjective really on the looks, it's regular glasses with a little piece on the end. Technically, I could go to a park or grocery store and just start taking pictures and video of people anyway.

Not really...I see the difference between the word "innovative"/"valuable" and "what in the hell is this thing actually useful for". Google themselves have admitted they have no fucking clue what the glasses are useful for...so much so that they pawned off all app development to outsiders as they couldn't it out.

That can happen with phone too where people pretend to be using the phone but are actually recording so where's the hate for that?

Just wait for it, I'm sure there's a few reasons coming our way, and I'm positive they'll be most pleasing.

The most valuable component of Glass is the ubiquitous heads-up display. If you don't think that's transformative, you've got your head under a rock. The other sensors it's augmented with will surely evolve over the generations of hardware, but the image projected onto your vision isn't going anywhere. The military has already been using similar tech for more than a decade. This is the first time that heads-up displays are accessible to a regular person. In the very near-future this has massive potential to transform sports, police work, shopping experiences and more. This is all before the device itself reaches a point of ubiquity.

Anger, insecurity, resentment. It's like how women "hate" Megan Fox.

Because security cams are not typically hooked up to some jackass's YouTwitFace account.

Case in point. Look at the anger. Way to make Robstar's point, ace.

Ignorance breeds fear and hate. There's good and bad use for everything including knives in the kitchen vs on campus, cars for transportation vs DUI, cameras for photography vs upskirt, Glass for doctors vs ... but you get the idea.

It appears to be working fine right now. Cool they have shades now. Google Shades would've been a better name for it.

I doubt anyone here is going to slap their doctor mid-surgery for wearing Google Glasses.

Now if he wears it to the strip club though, expect to catch some flack, as nobody there wants to see themselves on youtube the next day.
