What kind of chair do you use for your gaming pc?

First, it IS related to hardware that supports gaming, even if it's for a bunch of other stuff too.


I ask because my current chair is starting to get tattered. It's been in use for like 7 years, so it's probably time to replace it.


Anything out there that is cheap and supremely comfortable? Or did most of you juse get the cheapest chicken wire style chair you could find at the swap meet?
 
I just use some $90 Walmart office chair. Nothing fancy, and it's really not that comfortable.

OP might've just convinced me it's time to get myself a new chair.
 
There have been a number of posts on here in relation to chairs. I guess the question though, is what is your idea of cheap? I personally don't skimp on the chair, I have a rather expensive one, but I have bought and used my fair share of cheap ones in the past.

Depends on what you are looking for, do you want high back, adjustable, mesh, leather, etc?
 
I have a chair from IKEA for home use. Would love to get one of those Embody chairs or Aeron's. Maybe in due time!
 
I prefer to keep my gaming pc on a desk. Be kinda of weird for it to be on a chair.

I use a $700 office chair I picked up at an office furniture store when I was in grad school. I just tried everything they had and picked the one I liked best. At the time I was spending most of my time at home in front of the computer. It was worth it. Saved me a lot of back discomfort.

It looks a lot like this one. Might even be the same chair...

If you spend a lot of time gaming or working at home, there is absolutely no reason to skimp on a chair. Get one that is adjustable (not everyone is built the same) and ergonomic, or else you'll start developing back and posture problems.

Generally people go for the Steelcase Leap or the Herman Miller Aeron/Embody. I use the Leap myself and it's fantastic.

Costco has some Via Thomasville executive chairs, one of which I use (cost $250 or so I think), which look extremely similar.

Be warned: if you're going to spend more than a couple of hundred on a chair, test it for 30 minutes MINIMUM. That first minute or two does not count. It does not matter how many good reviews or testimonials there are, because all those people are not like you. It does not matter how much it costs, because a $200 chair may be and can be more right for you than a $2000 chair.

I tried a Steelcase Leap chair for 5 seconds and thought it was perfect, so I bought the V2 version for $900. In spite of all my expectations, it gave me the worst backache and now serves as a chair for guests, and I now use a $250 chair from Costco.

I would highly advise against using a chair like this. It has little lumbar support, the arm rests are too high, and the seet is too deep. Over time this will lead to posture/back problems.

I'm interested. Could you please post the details on your Costco chair that you favor over the Leap?
 
I can't seem to find it on the Costco site anymore. It's a Via Thomasville executive chair, with Model#43386 and SKU#721191 on the bottom of the seat. There's even one for sale on craigslist here. There's a lot of very similar Thomasville chairs at Costco, Office Depot, etc.

The Leap V2 lumbar adjustment seems to be very different from the original Leap; it consists of a plastic strap that you move up and down. I suppose this chair must be comfortable for other people but it just kills my back no matter how I adjust it.
 
Just some random, well built leather high back .. ~$200 chair. Its very comfortable.

Same here...though recently I had a back spasm or something and it made me realize how much I needed lumbar support, which my chair has basically none of. Bought a cheap lumbar pillow from Amazon and it feels great now.

Nope. Mine has arms like SoFGR's chair, but a different style of back and seat. See my link to a craigslist ad earlier for a picture of the chair's box, which has a picture of the chair.

This chair just went on sale today
 
I use a sofa, the best of all worlds.
Racing games are the only ones I use a joypad with, the rest are keyboard and mouse.
Its really easy to use a keyboard and mouse on a sofa, been doing it for well over 5 years now without any fatigue.

The keyboard sits on my lap, no probs.
The mouse is either used on the sofa surface, on a cushion, or on a mousemat on a cushion, depending on the angle I sit at whichever is easiest.
Some mice dont track material well, avoid those if you want to get away without using a mousemat.
Stick a cushion under your mouse arms elbow to set the angle of the wrist correctly.
 
this is the closest to my current Knoll. the support and comfort over hours of use is fantastic.
 
I bought a nice mesh chair at Staples. I think it was about 450. Worth every penny. I don't recommend a leather chair (I had one) and aftergaming for hours you will start sweating specially if your wearing short and your skin touches the leather part. My legs have yet to sweet on my mesh chair. Take a look at Staples a large selection and you can go to their store and try them too.
 
I use an Aeron chair. My gaming PC is also my productivity and general use PC.

Cheap? No. For a good chair you have to pay a fair bit, unfortunate. The problem is cheap chairs are either poorly built, or they are fixed position and thus not ergonomic, unless you just happen to have the right body size/shape.

The Steelcase Leap is what I use. Any good adjustable ergonomic office chair will work though. The Herman Miller Aeron and Humanscale Freedom would be two other contenders to look at.

If you are willing to spend a ton, Lifeform makes pretty much the ultimate ergo chairs and you can get them customized to you in a number of ways.

I've never been able to find a cheap chair that works well. You might get lucky and find a non-adjustable one that is perfect for you, a friend of mine has one like that. Was like $150 and fits him flawlessly. Completely wrong for me though. However if not, you'll want something adjustable, and those cost more. If you get a cheap adjustable chair it'll shake and rattle, and come loose and so on. You have to drop some fairly serious coin to get a good one.

Worth it, in my opinion, as not only are they good for comfort and avoiding back pain and RSI, but they also last. A quality chair really can last a lifetime. When the fabric wears out, they'll replace it for a fee and you can go right on using it.
 
I use a Herman Miller Aeron. It actually completely got rid of my backpain. I used to use generic $300 leather chairs. But without fail the leather would always start ripping on the seat within 2 years. I figured $800 for a guaranteed 12 years of use was more economical than getting the cheap chairs, it is a hell of a lot more comfortable too.

I've had it for about 3 years now. It is probably one of my best purchases ever.

I picked up a used steel case leap about 6 years ago, the thing is a tank(I am 6'3" and around 260).It's the best thing I have bought for my back aside from a memory foam mattress. No more back problems!
