Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, but in the case of the scientific reboot of Cosmos, it just happened sooner. Creationists are now demanding equal time to debunk the evolutionary theme of Cosmos so the creationists can share their beliefs. Now we all get to see how ‘fair and balanced’ Fox actually is. :D

“You don’t talk about the spherical Earth with NASA, and then say let’s give equal time to the flat Earthers,” Tyson told CNN. “Plus, science is not there for you to cherry pick.”

Hahaha what? They do have equal time, how many thousands of religious shows/radio shows are there in this country? Mostly all christian/catholic to boot...

What does religion have to do with science?

No really, WHAT DOES RELIGION HAVE TO DO WITH SCIENCE?!

I'm hyper religious, and even I know the two don't mix

“Creationists aren’t even on the radar screen for them, they wouldn’t even consider us plausible at all,” said Danny Falkner, of Answers In Genesis

Now, I wonder why that would be? :p

Cause at some point, one starts to contradict the other. When someone tells you that everything on earth came from the same source, and we evolved from lower life forms, then that whole religion thing comes into question.

And there are people who devote their whole lives in the study of their religion. How would you like to be told that was all an entire waste of time? Creationism is like a hybrid of science and religion. You take what is science fact, and throw in a lot of god in between and there you have Creationism. It's easy to do cause science doesn't claim to know everything. Science only knows what we're able to test is true, and we know very little.

the hell? There's literally as many religion channels on cable as home shopping channels and they're complaining!? the NERVE!

ahhh, you think "god of the gaps" is your ally... :p

Not true. Simply combining science and religion where it is convenient does not make young earth creationism in anyway scientific. When science proves that the Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old, you can't say the Earth is 10,000 years old and call YEC a "hybrid" of science and religion. It is purely religion.

Nothing in Cosmos shows there's no God. It simply shows that religion has typically be wrong on science. This week we got a major new finding on the first fraction of a second after the big bang. We have nothing before that (and may never know more). Maybe some supernatural entity caused it. Who knows? One thing I'm certain of is there's no scientific evidence that indicates there was a divine creator. Doesn't mean there isn't, but science is more than just an idea or an opinion.

That said, so far I think NOVA's Origins is better than Cosmos (though on DVD it doesn't look nearly as good)

Screw this piece of crap news!

I want to know if [H] gives equal air time to AMD vs NVidia!

Well I guess all of you can thank your lucky start the fairness doctrine didn't get passed.

What the hell does evolution have to do with reality. Also, Christians are here to give the gospel, not fight over some stupid people tv show.

It's a pretty reasonable request considering how churches and fundamentalist bloggers give equal time to opposing views. It's only fair. :p

When Cosmos makes a series about creation mythology, it would certainly demand that the judeo-christian point of view be covered. But for a science show there is no place for mythological fantasy.

Creationism (aka "intelligent design") is not science. It starts with a conclusion and excludes anything contradictory to it's demonstratively wrong views. It's a joke that could only "work" here. World, yes you can point and laugh.

Hyper religious? So you're anti science then, right, right?:p

It'd work in Kansas! Quick, get me the head of the local FOX network. This is going to be huge ..

So, go out and make a television show and get it to a network, there is nothing stopping them...

COSMOS is not about God.. it is a strongly science based show...

They 'demand' it? Wow. Tell them to go make their own show... Or choose from one of the many other Christian shows and add in their own "documentary" somewhere.

Or just use their own fucking TV channels.

I swear I don't pay for extra cable beyond the basic tier of 25 channels and 30% of those channels are nothing but self-professed Judeo-christian twaddle all fucking day long.

benefit of the doubt question: did your question include a typo (aside from punctuation) or is it serious?

Nope, quite serious. Evolution is a manmade idea based on nothing more than what he thinks. Reality is far larger than that.

Because observation and theorizing based on observation is less reality-based...than just whipping out a 2000-year old manmade book and saying "God did it! Poof!"

compare and contrast the evidence available supporting your thoughts and the "idea" of evolution. :)

to sum up the inevitable posts to follow: ManOfGod is a creationist troll.

Observation does not start with a conclusion. True observation looks at things as they are and garners information from that.

Which *might be* why Darwin's Origin of Species was written after he went to the Galapagos and not before he even packed his suitcase.

What is this "creationism"?

is this the scientific conclusion that extraterrestrials had to tinker with the dna?
