Asassin's Creed 5: Unity

If they don't completely overhaul the combat, I won't even touch this.

Black Flag was crazy fun...best game since Brotherhood...looking forward to Part 5 with next-gen graphics...as far as combat mechanics, the leak shows buttons mapped to 'parkour up' and 'parkour down', which is said to be a new feature introduced this year

I still need to finish 4. I'll wait for a Steam sale on 5, likely. Did anyone ever try the Multiplayer in 4?

I've heard and read the word "parkour" in the past couple weeks more than I cared to hear it in my entire life.

Mostly because of Titanfall...apparently "parkour" just means running on walls and double-jumping...

I hate AC but my wife has beaten all the games since she started them and she can't stop now. I'm sure she'll bug me to get this one for her as well, but only after it goes on a bargain bin sale because even tho she plays the games, she hates how shit they've become.

I really hope the combat system gets an overhaul.

AC4 was a step back from even AC3.

It needs more depth, it's just so damn easy, counter counter counter,.

They need to have group tactics, have different movesets that you can control, combos, breakers, takedowns, etc.

If it plays like AC4, I'll definitely get it. AC: Liberation sucks since it won't work with a dual NIC (Ubisoft needs to patch it...). AC3 was fun enough to complete the game, but lacks in quite a lot of ways.

I may have to play the AC2 trilogy over again... I enjoyed the combat & exploration a ton. I never was fond of getting 100% sync on any of the games though.

While I enjoy the games, at this point the Assassin plot and gameplay have become the weak points in the series.
Black Flag would have been a better game had it had nothing to do with the AC games. AC3 probably would have, too.
They've beaten this stuff into the ground. Unless they have some truly clever conspiracy stuff and a complete makeover in combat, this series is going to die soon.

Yeah... AC4 wasn't really about assassins much. Edward had nothing to do with them until the end & side quests. Seems like Ubisoft is struggling to keep their storyline integrated into the gameplay. The non-Animus parts of the game provided me a better perspective of the Assassins vs. the Templars. I just hope that the next one blows everyone out of the water or it will definitely die off.

I agree. I think the IP is done now.
But the name recognition is hard to pass up...

Yeah, I certainly don't think the game sales will tank overnight or anything, but it's starting to become a running joke a la COD and Madden.
If they beat it into the ground too far, it might actually spell the full-on end for the series.
My biggest gripe is that the games still look more or less the same as AC1. Yes, they've improved the graphics, but that's really only on the surface. A full generation later, we're playing the same game but with the res and details turned up a little. That's weak.

I'm gonna get it, no question. All I want is another Assassin's Creed game. I kinda wish it would continue with Edward Kenway, but as long as its a good game thats all that matters to me.

My biggest complaint about AC3 was that the location didn't seem fitting in the series. The wilderness was as pain in the arse to get around, and the American cities were spread out and boring. It was too much of a departure from what Assassins Creed had been up until that point. AC4 is also a departure from the dense city AC games of old, but at least it's in a much more interesting location, and they made getting around and exploring a ton better.

If AC5 takes what was good about AC4, but returns to built-up cities like the first few games, it could make for a dam good game. I'll be watching this closely.

Damnit. I'm still on brotherhood. Sigh. I told myself I'd catch up everytime a new AC comes out. Now I'm just too far behind to bother.

Same here, I just cant seem to finish any AC game. After a few hours I tend to lose interest due to the repetition of the gameplay.

You can skip AC3 completely and just jump right into 4. AC4 essentially does everything AC3 does better.
Just read a plot synopsis and skip the game.

What really kills it for me is all the follow/eaves drop missions.
How annoying and boring is that??

The combat is also getting old and repetitive. Not challenging nor fun really...

The combat was old and repetitive since the first game. AC2 barely improved it.

I then picked up AC4 since so many people mentioned it was by far the best game in the series, and the combat is still terrible.

I don't care if they literally just copy/paste the system from Batman Arkham Asylum/City or whatever, they just need to do something to make it fun and not the snoozefest it currently is.

I agree that although the Batman Arkham games combat is not that different, it is at least fun, unlike the AC combat...

Although it was a questionable port on PC, AC4 was my favorite game of the series. Gameplay wise, a lot of it was more of the same. But the pirate theme, the not really an assasin slant was fun

Ubisoft has confirmed the recently-leaked Assassin's Creed: Unity with a short teaser of stunning in-game footage...

wow I'm very impressed

By Alpha in-game they mean the same supercomputer they ran the original Watch Dogs promo with? Because I highly doubt next-gen consoles will play this and maintain the amount of characters they'll want on screen.

Odds are, given FC3 and WDs that this will be watered down come closer to release. I wouldn't even doubt if the District (I think, the new TC game) gets the same treatment.

4 was unique and a generally great twist of the series, this one looks like they're going back to the boring formula...

Like the ubisoft dude said in the Montréal nvidia meeting, ubisoft does engine test on brefy pc, like Gtx 780 ti running at 1080p 30fps, then they cut feature back.. Why do they dont les those feature on the pc version is a mystère, probably because they cant loose time to debug those. But it's how it work.

For watch dog, for division, for this one.

Looks sick. Love the time setting.....though feudal Japan would have been OMGWTFBBQOGASM. Ninjas, Samurai and cool buildings. Hope they do that next. French Revolution looks awesome.....lots of story line potential right thur.

I'm worried that because of the setting it's going to be more of the same old same old gameplay we had from AC I and II/Brotherhood/Revelations.

Unless they actually change combat and things around (doubtful, it's gotten worse each game).

I've said it before, but I'd like for them to provide a little bit more free control to the combat. Right now, it's counter and attack, queue death animation. Maybe allow one of the sticks to control the weapon swing? Being able to walk behind someone and actually shiv them (multiple up thrusts of stick) would be kinda neat.

Might prove to much control of the violence.

If you play AC for the "combat", you are deluding yourself that it will be anything other than what it has been over its lifetime lol.......consoles only have 4 buttons ppl. They have no choice considering the market this game is primarily targeted to.

AC4 was a great game because it was a good pirate game that happen to have a bit of AC meshed in. Hell if there was an option to skip any of the worthless Animus/future part of the game I'd be all over it.

Having 4 buttons doesn't mean you can't have in depth/skillful combat.

Bushido Blade for example was a good combat game on the ps1.

I agree with others and have said this myself on occasion: For me Batman Arkham City raised the bar on what a third person action adventure style game can be. There are several conventions and especially as it pertains to the combat that the AC series (among others) would do well to "borrow" or flat out rip off for all I care.

I say all this as a fan of the AC series still, lumps and all.

I respectfully disagree, I find the combat in Batman: AA/AC just as boring.

It's the same problem, you focus on counter counter counter the majority of the time and aside from a few specific enemies it works.

Sure you have some special moves or jump moves/takedowns but the "meat" of the combat is built around countering all day without much thought in the middle of huge fights.

IT "looks" good yes, but there needs to be more depth behind countering.

I'd like to see a focus on actual sword/weapon stances, guards, moves tied to thees, more grappling, trips, disarms, a more "personal" type of combat based around the actual martial arts of that time period.

It's not hard to find good source material showing stances/attacks/defense and other things, just a matter of them taking the time and a want to do it.

Imagine playing the game and actually having to fence, being able to chance your stanec (Which opens different movesets) where your enemy can do the same and you actually HAVE to block and learn counters to specific moves.

Yay! More memory fragments to ignore as I pass by.

I have to agree, there's just too much junk in assassin's creed. I've been playing ac 4 for weeks, and I'd never even begin to get all if the collectables. It's completely absurd how much benign stuff there is floating around in that game. There's nothing flavorful or fun about having to repeated jump out of my boat, run over to uncharted island x, grab a chest, swim back, ect. There's no fun in it, arkham city did it right with th riddler challenges. The only collectables I really enjoy are the treasure maps. Some of them require a little thought. The shanties floating away was a nice touch, but I don't care for that much either, it's very easy once you're back into the swing of free running. There's too much clutter, they should focus on a few fun collectables that offer you something actually rewarding. Collecting all the chests in a town for a pat on the back and a checkmark doesn't do it for me, and it just seems like lazy additional content. Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying the game but mostly just when I'm on my ship getting upgrades. Also, the shanties are fantastic, sometimes I turn the music up and just let them roar. The game needs a major overhaul in a lot of it's mechanics, they just feel old. They are old. The original assassin's creed really blew my mind back in 2007, but the core mechanics have become mundane. If this is just a pretty face lift with another assassin, I'm not interested, I've done it plenty of times. A pirate can only drink so much in a life time, albeit a lot, and I can only enjoy the same mechanics for so long.
