What's going on with the sudden increased in AMD used cards in FS/FT? And for the most part, reasonable pricing compared to a month ago. Bitcoin die? :p

AMD suppply plus asic miners that can do much more at cheaper cost.

I also think the recent security breaches might affect interim demand but again, the supply and better options are more long term variables then security breaches

Ill just be happy when i can buy a gpu without being raped for the price.

Even tho i sold my cards, which i regret , now i need new ones.

These huge platforms are what basically kill any aspect of making anything with a basic computer and a few graphics cards.
It's like trying to drag race a funny car with a yugo.

yugo....hahaha

they dont still make those 3 cynlindar shit boxes do they?

one of my classmates had one back in 1984....

Profitability in all the alt-coins are down as there's now a glut of a ton of crap coins that no one cares about other than pumping and dumping. Litecoin difficulty is high, Doge is doing decent, everything else is sucking wind. Basically folks are seeing that they won't pay for their cards in 2-3 months and will be lucky to make money on top of power consumption, thus are bailing before the cards drop in value.

I'm curious if prices will return to how they were before mining, with AMD cards being a bit cheaper for the same level of performance or will they equalize.

Got a mostly new windforce 290 for $300 so I can't complain. Id be somewhat worried about second hand mining cards though. I will enjoy the flood of cheap cards at least.

I doubt it ever since Yugoslavia ceased to exist as a country.

LTC difficulty is around 5,895.82660 now which is rough unless you have a dozen cards crunching away.

altcoins have dropped in value and the profit/consumption ratio for electric and summer time coming makes it worthless to do any scrypt mining. I dont think it will be back anytime soon either with dedicated scrypt miners coming out finally

This depends if the dedicated scrypt miners actually deliver what they say. We have a little bit more time before it becomes unprofitable to mine scrypt.

You'll probably see the small miners (few cards) offloading, however farms will probably keep their cards and switch to another algorithym like Scrypt-N-Factor or keccak which these new ASICS still don't have support for ( but probably could with new mining software on them), All the people offloading will bring difficulty down and make it a bit more profitable to mine on gpus until the ASICS are delivered.

I'm curious and waiting to see before I off-load my GPU farm. Currently, it is paid off so I'm just sitting on the hardware and paying monthly electric bills.

I'm just hoping this will give a kick to otherwise currently stagnant market prices regardless of the specific reasons why.

What about the risk factor in buying one of these cards that have likely been run 24/7 to within an inch of thier lives.
I wouldn't buy one. Wait a little longer for new stock prices to fall, then buy with confidence.

Risk you take I guess. Miners generally underclock cards for power savings. Some cards run hotter than others though. I would not hesitate to buy a Tri-X for example. A MSI gaming card? Don't know about that.

Prices are finally coming back to Earth. Last week I saw a 280X on Newegg for $325 and I jumped on it for my brand new rig.

I wonder if they'll keep dropping? 280X has been out for several months now and $325 is about MSRP. Will pricing "reset" (and start going down at the normal depreciation rate) or will it drop more quickly to the level where it normally would be on a 6 month old card?

I feel sorry for anyone that buys one of these "never used for mining" cards then has to deal with RMA when it smokes after having 8000 hours on it.

I know video cards that have more hours at load from guys playing world of warcraft. :D

LMAO

Load gaming and load mining are two very different kinds of load. Scrypt would make my 580's heat the entire room. Gaming could never do that.

I was totally and completely enamored by that game with Vanilla and the expansion Burning Crusade. I spent way more time than was healthy playing that stupid game. ;)

I'm MMO'ed out these days. Don't really think I can ever get the same feeling of "whoa" as I did when I had started WoW in late 2004. Man that was such a great game at the time. Perfection really.

I was at Fry's here in the Seattle area and I spotted an Asus R9290x on "sale" for $899.99...Ok.

Anyone else get a mental picture of this guy physically resisting the urge to pop open WoW, but that urge taking over more and more as his post went on?
haha j/k stay strong, man! You can do it! :p

Hopefully the mining thing will go away. Because I don't think AMD ever intended their latest gen cards to turn into mining platforms. But they got bought up by miners. So basically that great value price that AMD is offering isn't really benefitting its intended customers right now.

LOL, weird. AMD sells out their video cards, but loses marketshare.

Good point. Basically, a whole crowd of people who never would have purchased GPUs to begin with, bought the AMD cards. That forced everyone who AMD was actually targeting to buy Nvidia.

Way to go, miners! You see what you did?! You broke AMD! I hope you're happy

I was going to go with Nvidia this round either way. The miners just made my decision easier. I wasn't impressed with my XFX 6970 honestly.

Untrue, at best this is disingenuous in nature. Altcoins as a whole havented dropped in value per se, and even if this was true, does not explain the flood of cards on the market.

True. This is a more accurate description of the current climate.
