I waited since august 2013 to get into the beta. Never got an invite. Instead they give out tons of beta keys to sign up to bullshit and to other sites after registering with them. Yea no thanks. I don't care if the game is fun but the company just killed the game for me. Maybe it is a silly reason not to want the game but I think it is ridiculous.

I feel like one of those guys who picked up a ticket to wait hours to finally get in and instead bunch of guys who just walked into the door get called up because they are lucky to just have entered at the right time.

Very much on the fence for this game. Dumped my WoW addiction a couple years ago, but Wildstar seems very interesting to me and I actually may have a little free time to play a MMO part time again. What to do, what to do.......

Took me all of 5 minutes to register with a spam email account that I use, and get a weekend beta key from http://www.tentonhammer.com/giveaways/wildstar-beta-key-giveaway-for-march-21-23

5 mins? Who cares. You're blatantly missing the point he is trying to make.

He signed up a long time ago. He should have been picked first before they handed keys out in some lame marketing ploy. They did the same thing to me and I'm sure a lot of other people as well.

Really does make you think .. wtf. I get what is saying perfectly.

I love when people just pretend and gloss over the truth

Not glossing over the truth. Just pointing out that if he REALLY wanted to get in, he could have.

Doesn't matter now that full beta is over, and only weekend beta's will be available from what I read.

Back on topic though, I preordered from GMG and received my key instantly for anyone that is curious about how long it takes to get the key. You will also be able to get into the beta this weekend. :)

I was in the same point. Registered ages ago and never got a key. Friend had a spare though and tossed me on.

Safe to say though, I won't be buying the game, honestly...I was very disappointed with it...Huge letdown imo.

What exactly makes you think that he is entitled to anything? The fact that he put his email in a link 8 months ago? Give me a break..

I can truly understand why you guys are upset but to play devil's advocate... that does seem like a passive aggressive response/attitude. "I put my name in years ago, but they never picked me! I saw plenty of opportunities to get in, but I didn't based on principal alone... so now I'm going to go pout in the corner."

Should they have honored early backers? Yes. Could you have gotten off your ass instead of just bitching passively about it? Yes.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I'll be getting in on this goodness.

I don't feel I am entitled to a key, but it makes me think twice about buying a game from a company that uses these tactics to make money. I signed up awhile ago and registered to a few giveaways to try and win but never did so just gave up. I wasn't going to waste my time trying to win a key by signing up to a thousand different sites I will never visit so they can make money sending ads to my spam email. If they resort to this kind of stuff then where does it end? I would fully expect some kind of pay to win system in the game as well so they can make more money off of people. Maybe it isn't the case but it is a turn off to me. I just don't like their business practice. There are many things I don't buy from a certain brand because I had a bad experience with a company.

ordered the deluxe edition earlier for 60 bucks. really looking forward to this, it's got the feel of vanilla wow. the devs are actually really active as well, and have been listening to the community. they're constantly over at reddit.

i too signed up for beta a long time ago.. no key. just didn't get lucky, i guess. not too sour about it though, did snag one last month and ended up loving it.

if anyone wants a beta key for this weekend, shoot me a pm, i have one left.

I really don't understand people like this.

"I put my email in once, didn't get anything so I gave up."

You do realize that WildStar devs gain nothing (monetarily) by giving away beta keys right? This is just a way for them to support the sites that are covering their game and creating buzz for it. The mere fact that you "assume" a pay-to-win system means you know absolutely nothing about this developer/game, nor care to learn. Yet you are mad that you didn't get a key and bad-mouth them?

Cracks me up that people think they are entitled to beta. Beta is a tool for the developer to help tweak their games and find bugs, not so you can play it early. I remember being in the beta for some of the games I used to play, and if you didn't provide valuable feedback, you got tossed. If you were just there to get a sneak peek at the game so your e-peen could grow a couple of inches, you weren't welcome...

And if you didn't find any bugs and had nothing to report. How would they know? Would they just toss you? Sorry but I smell BS..

I have never heard of a Beta where they would toss you if you didn't provide any feedback whatsoever. Trust me, just logging in and playing around in their game provided PLENTY PLENTY of valuable information for the developers. The only times that you would get tossed would be if you violated their terms or NDA.

i think you misunderstood the whole point. I'm not mad I didn't get a beta key. There are plenty of games I tried to get into beta but I didn't. I also stated that I made attempts at these "giveaways." I'm more upset at the way they went about giving them out. There is a difference there. It also speaks volume to a game not being very good if they have to support sites to give their game good reviews. I lost interest in the game and don't care to find out more about it or their developers. There are plenty of other mmorpgs coming out anyway.

Sounds like you guys haven't been in real beta tests, and what you're doing is more stress testing than beta. In a beta, shit doesn't work. It gets slowly added, and you're told what to test as new content is added. You're also provided a direct line to communicate with the developers, usually a forum. You don't use the forum, you loose your account.

I was invited to a weekend stress test and while on the forums came across a guy who was in the full closed beta and had a spare beta key that he gave me. That was back in November.

I'm still in the closed beta because I have a level 32 character but since I just pre-ordered (thanks for the code OP, it saved me $15!) I'm in anyway.

What's the scoop on this game then? Just another WoW clone or?

Yes, and a bad one at that. It's main attraction is that former Blizzard people are working on it. Otherwise it would just be seen as another mediocre NCSoft mmorpg.

I couldn't get into it at all when I played it. Spent many hours in the game and it really didn't hook me at all.

The biggest turn off is that game is really geared toward new players / casuals. They basically show you where not to stand when something attacks you etc. That was a major turn off to me.

Honestly, I'm quite disappointed with all the MMO's coming out right now. ESO was meh. Althought still gonna pick it up and give it a more thorough play. I had high hopes for wildstar, but it let me down hard. For those who have played the beta, they'll know what I mean. the item UI was just atrocious, such a tedious task to organize and sell junk. Cluttered quest UI, and the PvE was linear and just boring.

Besdies that though, no MMO has really captured any weight to the combat. The last MMO that did in my eyes was Tera. When you let go of your skill and it connected, you could literally feel it, which was very satisfying. I can't tell you how much fun I had playing on my Berkserker, until the game went free to play and they threw in that every class has stagger/knockdown patch which utterly destroyed the game. In regards to weighted combat, ESO comes farther on this factor compared to WS, which literally was just bland telegraphs everywhere with no sense of damage in your spells. Mostly just pretty lights.

Such a shame Tera failed so hard, if they just would of taken the combat of Tera, and mixed it in with the landscape and scope of lineage 2 with a open world realm, with lineage 2's alliance system and castle sieges...It would of been the most grand of mmos.

Man...I'm getting old, but I really do miss the lineage 2 prelude days, up till c2/c3...That game was just utter gold if you could bare with the grind.

Maybe you'd be interested in this: Black Desert

It definitely looks interesting....The combat looks really odd though. Hopefully just a fact that it's in alpha and it will be worked out. Besides that it's definitely different from most of the other mmo's I've seen. I'll give it a good look through. You might want to check Bless...A new MMO that's been in the works. Only downside it's tab target for archers, but everything else they say is similar to tera....But it looks gorgeous...lol

I would never play this game too cartoony but Everquest Next looks ok but this should be free to play..

It's funny watching people throw "WoW-clone" around when it's pretty obvious they are talking about of their ass.

WildStar plays absolutely nothing like WoW.

Carbine announced in a dev speek weeks ago that the UI was being almost completely re-built based on user feedback during beta.

You are the first person I've seen claim that WS is geared towards "new players and casuals". Their stance on raiding and end-game content is the exact opposite of casual.

If you are going to have a combat system where your survival requires you to actively avoid aoes and cleaves then you have to show the player where to avoid.

SixFootDuo is mistaken. The game is not geared toward new players and casuals. The Wildstar dev team has said from the beginning that it's just the opposite. Either he forgot what starter zones were or thinks that a telegraph system means "casual". The telegraphs are easy to avoid when you start out but get more and more difficult as you level. They seem to do a good job at training you.

From what I've seen, they've done everything right. They took the best elements of every mmo out there and incorporated it into wildstar. I see nothing wrong with the cartoon style graphics and their use eases the hardware requirements and increases game performance.

I've been looking forward to this game for a while. I purchased the game from GMG at 20% off and grabbed an annual subscription. I've played WOW, Rift, LOTRO, SWTOR, TERA, and GW2 and think Wildstar has the potential to beat them all. And no it's not a clone of any of them.

It's funny watching people throw "WoW-clone" around when it's pretty obvious they are talking about of their ass.

WildStar plays absolutely nothing like WoW.

Every MMORPG is a WoW-clone. The ones that came out before WoW were just copying what they knew WoW would do.

there isn't going to be an mmo that isn't essentially a 'wow clone' for awhile. wow refined the mechanics that everyone knows and almost expects. companies just don't want to take the risk deviating from the formula, unfortunately.

that being said, this game is good. i recommend giving the beta a try this weekend for anyone on the fence about it. the endgame content is to be second to none, with 20 and 40 man raids standard.

this game will do fine i'm sure. it's much better than ESO (which is going to bomb, hard) and anything else that's been out for mmo's for awhile. to each his own, though.

They just hired the D3 guy to redo their ui

http://www.wildstarfans.net/2014/02/carbine-reveals-wildstar-ui-20.html

The UI was personally my major grievance and it should be WAY better now.

Unfortunately selling junk items is something they don't seem to want to change but I can live with that at least.

Here's hoping.

The UI was the single biggest turn off to me as I've played through the beta and it kept me away and in FFXIV most of the time.

Of course how much they can revamp it before launch..... that remains to be seen.

The last great MMO that got it all right was Dark Age of Camelot! The Realm vs Realm battles were Epic!!!

Like I posted in another thread; I forbid you to preorder this mediocre game, and if you, against all better judgement, preorder it anyway then I forbid you to come back to [H] and whine about how shitty the game is.

That's true. WoW's character movement is much more fluid and responsive.
