Samsung UD590 now on Newegg - $869

Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

So what? Over the years, I have exceeded microsofts alloted key tries for my OS. An OS that I OWN. Is that good enough for you SuperSUb?

And please try a game or two on it. Download war thunder (free to play) and test a few matches of that for me, would ya :)
You don't want my opinion of gaming on this display. I am used to gaming on my FW900 & 144hz panels. I will say its pretty snappy for a 60hz panel, once you lock it into game mode & set pixel response time to "fastest."

THIS DISPLAY IS A PICKY WENCH! IT DOES NOT LIKE ANY OF MY 6'-10' Display Port Cables!!! I had to use the included 3' DP cable which is very annoying, otherwise it goes into blinking fits

IF YOU GET THIS FROM EBAY, THE OSD IS IN KOREAN! HERE IS A GUIDE THAT I MADE TO GET YOU BACK TO IIIINNNNNGRRRISSSHHH :D

Alright alright tell us about the quality of the panel and gameplay already. I am correct that there is no wall mount option on this display?

Testing gaming now.

(1)BF4 crushes my lowly 290x, and fraps is not working with BF4 @ 4k so its difficult to fine tune settings.

(2) HaloCE is huffing at 45fps average which is strange, very strange, haloce should be about to do a million FPS.....I dunno if this is an AMD issue.

(3) Trying MP3 now.

Does it have VESA mounts on the back? Looks pretty awesome :D

So what? Over the years, I have exceeded microsofts alloted key tries for my OS. FUCK THEM. Its my GOD DAMN OS THAT I PAID FUCKING FULL PRICE FOR and I REFUSE TO PAY $10 for a key # for a fucking program that I FUCKING OWN. And I basically reinstall my OS every 6 months anyway, so purchasing more keys would be fucking pointless. Is that good enough for you SuperSUb?
I've had that same fracking issue with Windows 7 Ultimate last year when I re-installed it.

They wanted me to buy a new key as well when my original was still genuine, but would not activate with it. I had to call Microsoft just to get the OS activated, but it's a constant reminder of how much I hate these anti-piracy and DRM activation schemes. It eventually gets to the point of nerve-wracking after a while.

I would not be surprised that in a few more years software companies like Microsoft will do away with permanent activations and put 5-, 10-, or even 3-year limits on their software. After which you have to pay for a new key.

Anyway... back on topic.

I'm looking forward to seeing how good this Samsung display is. It's just disappointing that there is no VESA mounting points on it. Then again my monitors sit on my desk.

No Vesa mounts :(

I just played a little bit of Max Payne 3 and it is EXCELLENT on this monitor. Motion is smooth as a babys ass, blur reduction is the best I have ever seen on a 60hz panel and there is Zero ghosting.

For a TN panel, the U28D590 colors and panel uniformity are the best that I have ever seen. BUT, that is not exactly saying a whole lot, because I am spoiled by VA, IPS & CRT displays and find the color POP to be lacking, which really is no surprise.

I will try my Titan GTX rig a little bit later.....I think that will be the better option for gaming because of adaptive vsync. I have capped FPS in afterburner on my 290x but that can't compare to adaptive vsync in my honest opinion.

The 4k resolution is nice, very nice. But 28"s is too small for me....I just came from a Seiki 39" which was a bit too large, so 32"-36" would probably be the sweet spot for me.

Sounds awesome so far. Keep us updated

I missed the delivery.

How big is the box? (I have to carry it up 3 flights of stairs and I have a bad back if I pick it up)

Here is a review of it for those interested (not sure if its already been posted or not) : http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/5269/samsung-lu28d590d-review-4k-becomes-affordable

Some key points ..

1. God awful contrast , we're talking Dell U2410 level awful.

2. Extremely bright. Tested far above its advertised brightness. This is both good and ..bad.

3. Excellent color despite being actually an 8-bit TN panel using interpolation to advertise 10-bit. Excellent Gamma range as well. However its still a TN so not recommended for any kind of sensitive work as such.

4. With Overdrive enabled its close lowest input latency monitors you can get with only the BenQ and ASUS gaming monitors being superior. Its without question the lowest input latency 4k monitor you can get so for gamers this is a treat.

5. Extremely good viewing angles for a TN panel. Very much above average (this is a review sample so .. salt to be taken).

So while the price is great (Amazon has it listed for $699 coming April 14th) and its 60hz and its totally solid for gaming .. the contrast kills it for me. I'm spoiled but those numbers for contrast are just unacceptable in the modern age. I once bought a monitor that had god awful contrast like that and I won't do it again (The Dell U2410). So here is hoping that the next round of 4k panels do not have such deplorable contrast. I have enough horsepower to run most of my games well but the Qnix 2710 at 120hz with excellent color/contrast is still my go to for most games.

However if you don't care that much for PQ while you game then this panel seems like a total win win.

Got mine. Holy geez, tiny text.:D

I will say I have some backlight bleed on mine, some spotting, kind of annoying. Will test more later, have to eat.

Does "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" mean it is going to be delivered to my house?

EDIT: Got it! It's so big though! Going to be hard to get used to this after using 23" for years.

I'm loving mine so far. I have no problem reading text, 1080P works perfectly, it looks great, games run well. The only problem is that I can't set my resolution higher than 1440P with crossfire enabled.

Lots of blotches and backlight bleed on mine. Very disappointed. I must have got a bad one.:(

Also I noticed a bug, if it goes into Power-Saving mode, it gets stuck there and I have to unplug it in order to get it working again.

I guess I'm stuck with it, since I'm not going to pay to ship it back to Korea. I'll have to fool around with the settings, but my Dell UM2711 had no backlight bleed whatsoever. This is just terrible. It's all over the screen.:(

That's unlucky. I'm watching the Free To Play documentary and for some reason it has huge black borders, but it gives me a chance to look for backlight bleeding. Absolutely none, it's pretty perfect.

FYI: There are monitor drivers on the CD. I think if you load them it allows the monitor to go into power saving mode properly.

Check out game mode if you haven't already! It makes the monitor look even clearer with better colours, at least in games. Loving it so far.

Any comments in regard to color vibrancy and contrast? I'm looking at going from an Xstar Dp2710 at 110hz to this display for gaming.

Dang that sucks Wag :( watcha gonna do? Are you gonna return it? File an ebay claim? Mine are relatively perfect...had afew minor blackout issues from the beginning but i seem to have smoothed em out by using the original dp cable and a different figure 8 power cable.

GoldenT: It depends on what games you play, I dont like fps on anything less than 120hz so i cant recommed this for that. But 3rd person games like GTA5 & the division should be pretty sweet.
I would say the contrast is this displays weakest link. Im not a fan of 1,000/1. Also, the AG coating is minor, but I wish it was full glossy. There should be a law requiring TN panels to have no AG!

Nah, I'm not going to return it. It would end up costing me > $100 and I don't want to bother. Next time I buy from Amazon.

Are there any good free calibration tools?

How much GPU horsepower are you guys running? I'm really interested in this monitor for dota2. Wider FOV ftw! Plus I'm thinking I might be able to get away with keeping one 780.

The aspect ratio is still the same as any old 1080p monitor, so your FoV won't increase.

One GTX 780 is not going to be enough to run 4k at what many would consider a solid frame rate. Unless the game is extremely old or very well optimized you can consider above 30fps to be more rare than usual.

I wouldn't recommend 4k gaming for the general gamer right now anyway. There will be new GPU's coming that will have 4k as a big new happy standard for gaming in mind but right now 1440p is kind of where most single card setups really hit their sweet spots (talking GTX 780 and the like).

However if you can afford 2 GTX 780's (I recommend the Gigabyte Ghz editions , once overclocked they are basically 780 Ti's) you can get some very respectable numbers. Not great numbers .. just respectable.

I've been messing with a 4k monitor on and off for a bit now (its the Dell UP2414Q) and you really need a juiced setup to get a good frame rate. I think however for desktop usage 4k is complete sex. Adjust your DPI and be happy. But for gaming .. it needs horsepower from GPU's and especially a GPU that can drive it in a single card configuration.

Damn display keeps getting stuck in power saving mode or "off" for some strange reason. I keep having to unplug the monitor from the electrical outlet to fix this. Frustrating as hell.

Well, game mode is a necessity on this. Was just playing some Dota, and was playing terribly. Took me 16 minutes to realise Game Mode was off, turned it on and I instantly started playing much better. Still cost us the game though :/

I would sell my 32" 4k with MST if I could buy the same one without MST, but IPS and native 60hz.

is there a power LED indicator? I didn't see one. What color is it?

There is. It's on the front bottom right corner. It blinks blue when in power-saving mode. You can change the LED in the monitor settings to "WORKING" so it's solid blue when the monitor is on.

I wonder why mine keeps locking up? Must be a bug with the Nvidia drivers or with the monitor firmware.

Has anyone noticed a difference with the "Response Time" setting? Mine is set to "Faster".

BTW: Backlight bleed is really pissing me off.

Anyhow, for a fun time I discovered all the 4k movie trailers on Youtube. Cool stuff.

We really don't know yet, but I think the assumption is it's MST? It works really well though. Just plug and play.

I have trouble finding any 4k movie trailers, and as Youtube no longer buffers the whole video when you leave it, it is impossible for me to watch anything 4k on Youtube.

Really? I have no trouble finding any. Just search for "4k movie trailers" in Youtube and you'll get a ton of them. Here's one.

As far as buffering goes, use YouTube Center. There's an article about it here.

As I said, I can't watch Youtube videos, so obviously that isn't an option. I might try that buffering option, but knowing Youtube, 4k videos will look bad anyway. 1080P videos already do.

After installing that, my videos won't go above 720P for some reason.

I've seen some people say SST but it seems to me like they're just assuming that because there's no option in the OSD to enable/disable MST. More likely that it's just auto-enabled.

Yeah not a good assumption because the 32 inch dell will take SST input just fine wile being set in MST mode so that is not really a great indicator. I thought since some people actually had the thing they could tell? should be really obvious if you use older drivesr or run linux or mac.

This is the same thing that is on amazon for 699 right?
