I hate you, Newegg.

http://www.dailytech.com/Quick+Note...ption+Service+Newegg+Premier/article34277.htm

It all makes sense now. All this shitty service from Newegg these past couple years... It's all been a set up.

A few years ago you used to be able to order an item from Newegg and it would be shipped out within 24 hours. Lately it seems to take closer to 48 - 72 hours. A few years ago the vast majority of the products on their site shipped for free. Now it's probably 20% of the site. A few years ago Newegg waived restocking fees left and right. Not so much anymore. A few years ago if you had a return, all it took was a couple minutes in Live Chat to receive free return shipping. Be prepared to jump through some hoops now a days. A few years ago Newegg customer service was top notch! I rarely walked away unhappy and the turnaround for replies was excellent. These days Newegg customer service is rarely worth my time (like the time they sent me an $800 tv that died in less than a week and then wanted to charge me $80 for a new box because I threw the one the tv came with away... Or how about the time they sent me a GTX 780 ti that wasn't stable at stock clocks and they refused to do a exchange unless I paid an extra $150 because I redeemed the game vouchers that came with the card... Not like I was asking for new game codes. Or the time they sent me an e-mail saying they'd really like to fix a situation and would like to speak to me... Only to go on to ignore my next three e-mails).

It always seemed weird to me that all the things that made Newegg great (except for the lack of tax when purchasing online in my state and a well designed site... Which are the ONLY things they have going for them at the moment) just disappeared suddenly... But now I understand.

Now that their name is out there and they're a big player in online electronics... They think they can charge us $50 a year to get back all the perks we used to come to expect from them.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this Premier thing show up. The service totally is not worth $50, its free ground shipping, not even 2 day like amazon prime. Free 3 day ground used to be the norm, now we get 4-7 day "eggsaver". Shoprunner is nice for free 2 day but they seem to be very picky about what you can actually order with shoprunner.

I honestly do not remember many things having free shipping 5-6 years ago. It seemed to get better 2-3 years ago, but video cards, cases, ect. always had shipping charges when I added them to my cart.

My last item I got arrived quicker than my last Amazon order. Amazon is still fast for the most part, but they have mostly switched to Smart post (USPS) for me.

Newegg has approved every single RMA I put through this year. They were all reasonably legitimate but there were 3 or 4 that could have gone either way. Most recently I returned two pretty decent $400 VG278HE monitors over backlight bleed and THREE open box Eizo FG2421s. The Eizos are $600 normally at NE but were being sold at $480, 1 out of the 3 was really nice but had some sort of power supply issue common to the model (the others all had that + pixel defects) and would restart itself very occasionally. Considering how hard it is to test for an intermittent issue like that, I was pretty surprised when they instantly approved my return for full refund, and then the other 2 as well. I'll be paying the 50 dollar fee this coming year even though I have Shoprunner because I have RMAd so much crap this past year and they've been really cool about all of it.

BTW it still only takes a quick web chat to get a free return shipping label for me. Over and over and over. Premier sorta would take the worry out of the whole process of trying out things you aren't sure about. I've been doing that more and more often with NewEgg over the monitors... but I'll definitely try it this coming year if there are a crap ton of new monitors coming out that cost an arm and a leg and weigh enough to cost an arm and a leg to ship back and forth.

5-6 years ago pretty much everything was free shipping on newegg.

5-6 years ago free shipping was almost non existent... I'm not sure what nostalgia goggles you're wearing but you're wrong. It was cheap shipping through FedEx that was always magically a day early but free shipping was damn near unheard of until amazon seriously started competing with it a few years back.

I've done this a few times as well on larger items like a receiver and speakers. They have even paid my return shipping even when i mistakenly bought the wrong item once.

Well, then there's the whole difference of newegg selling a fairly limited selection of goods while Amazon literally sells almost everything.

I ordered ram for my past build last month... Got a good deal on it, being it was their warehouse cleanout event. Didn't opt for better shipping than eggsaver. I will never order with eggsaver again. DHL was going all around the US before it randomly showed up at my door.

To be fair, if you have the bad luck to live in the Northeast Corridor, Amazon has subcontracted their Prime orders out to Lasership, who are absolutely god-freaking-awful. Every so often a UPS/FedEx carrier would mark a package "delivered" just so he could get home on time - Lasership does it *routinely*.

The evidence is right there on RR's site, but I wouldn't say it's anything even quite approaching illegality. Newegg has their angles and Amazon has their's. RR is like a Teamster mob-guy type just like Angie's List, you have to pay them in order to get their "protection". Amazon wants to appear to be above that.

It's been asked: why are there 40,000 Reviews from Newegg on RR and so few on Amazon. Well--good lord if you haven't been asked repeatedly by Newegg CSRs to use their personal portal from an email they send you to do a review on RR about your experience, then shit you haven't been wheelin' and dealin' em enough. Amazon doesn't do that. That's why.

It's the same basic reason why Angie's List is bogus and you can get a horrible contractor who comes as the highest recommended in your top 10-population US city on that site. It's not that it isn't possibly useful as a tool for researching services, but you have to see that on the fringes things that are being hyped up are being hyped up because someone's getting paid to make it happen somewhere along the line. Even if it's just the programmer who designed the auto-request email that goes out to customers for reviews of Rosewill products after a certain period of time after a purchase. This is PART of why certain products at review sites (including Amazon) get reviewed a lot, and why others just don't. I've heard it said that in the online etailer review world, having bad reviews is WAY better than having no reviews.
Thank you for a civil conversation. I'm not aware of Angie's List (the only list I know of is Craigslist :D ... OK, I'll stick to my day job). I know Amazon does a lot more in sales than Newegg, that's pretty obvious. I've never gotten bothered by Newegg to fill out a RR survey during the rare times I've had to contact their CSR.

because everyone already knows that Amazon rocks? Who would look up reviews on the largest online store in the world before buying something?
Who would think to post a review unless they had a negative experience?
Yeah, you'd think that, but there are (in general) lot of near 5-star reviews of products that obviously people took the time and reviewed b/c they were happy, not unhappy. I like Amazon as well, but there are certain things they do that are annoying, like no free shipping (or now charging $35 for it), not telling you when certain MP3/movie/Android app credits will expire once you've entered them in your account, etc.

All I said is something is not right and you act like I'm obligated to provide you evidence...

Quit being such a fucking fanboy. Nobody is required to prove anything to you. Don't put words in my fucking mouth either.
I was just trying to have a civilized conversation, which apparently you are unable to conduct.

I ordered a video card for my HTPC a couple years ago, and it was advertised to come with a free game voucher. Guess what? When it showed up, the coupon was expired by 6 months. When I looked at the reviews on Newegg there were a bunch of reviews noting the same thing, with comments saying that they wouldn't do anything to credit or fix the issue.

Eh, I specifically remember a large PC build I had done back in early 07 (so a year past the 6 year mark) and every component had free shipping. I still shopped at Newegg regularly, but the free shipping was still a major deciding factor in ordering from there. The kicker though? When I got to checkout, the free shipping wasn't being applied even though every item had it. I ended up having to order each part separately to get the free shipping to apply.

I recently made two $100+ purchases from both Amazon and Newegg.

Why both? Because one had better prices than the other. Neither had the best price for both items.

Shipments from BOTH places arrived EXACTLY on schedule.

Didn't have a problem with either. And Newegg used OnTrac (which I'm not a fan of, but they worked!)

That stinks, but since there were comments saying that about the expired game voucher, it's something you should've known about, right? I know that doesn't absolve Newegg for advertising a game voucher that they (presumably) knew was expired.

In my case, it was a little bit of the opposite situation. I bought a video card from them late last year that was DOA. It also came w/ the game voucher (and was valid). I RMA'd the card. It then went OOS (7870 Tahiti edition), so Newegg refunded my money. I got to keep the game voucher (they never asked for it back) and when I called to complain about not having a replacement card, they gave me a little store credit. The only thing about Newegg that ticked me off is that they wouldn't cross-ship the replacement card. To this day, I don't know why they wouldn't. They could've easily charged me for the 2nd card until my RMA (which they paid for return shipping) was received by them.

Yeah, my fault for not reading the comments beforehand, I just saw that it had a decent rating and went with it.

Placed an order from Newegg Friday morning at 9am est, didnt receive shipping info until Monday morning, didnt leave Newegg warehouse until today... This is with 'rush processing"

They certainly have slipped, this is the third order in a row that took nearly a week with 2 day shipping to receive, and I'm 1 state away from the Jersey warehouse.

I reached out to customer service today and conveniently 3 hours later after they were reaching out to the warehouse, the status updated to in transit.

Nice to see things haven't changed. I don't order from the Egg anymore but I believe my last 4 orders with them were all Shop Runner Free 2nd Day which is fine....but when they don't ship it for 3 days, wth? My 2nd day air orders took pretty much 5 days to receive. I tried to talk to CS but we went round n' round. She basically wanted to argue that they did in fact ship it 2 day air as the label said so. Orders placed on a Monday for a coming up weekend build end up getting delivered the following Monday.

Ordered a Homeplug adapter that showed up on SlickDeals this morning. Chose the free shipping option, and the UPS tracking was generated within two hours of ordering. (and the tracking is active- showing origin in Memphis)

We'll see. I'd expect two days via UPS Groudn, not 4-7 days

newegg at times raises prices then adds coupon so youre really not "saving" as much as you think.

Wow -- just.... wow

I'm a miner -- and I lucked out and got two R9 290's at MSRP when they first hit (reference designs)

Crazy how I could turn around and make a profit of a few hundred dollars even after mining with them for months.

Sad fact is, they are this price because it's been proven people are willing to pay it. Nobody to blame but the people buying them at that price. Nobody has a right to complain to newegg or AMD because its their job to maximize revenue. There is no moral obligation to sell a product to person X, when person Y is offering you 30% more.

The people paying those prices -- i hope they are lucky enough to mine the next DOGE coin.... because at those prices, the break even point for one card is something like 5 months at current price/difficulties (and that's being generous)

Back on the topic of the Egg -- i had a rather positive experience the other day. Ordered a low profile flat HD antenna for 20 dollars off amazon -- found out the next day newegg was sellig none for 7 dollars shipped/delivered.

Cancelled my amazon order (in time) ordered via newegg (also got 3% cashback for the purchase) and had a tracking number by the end of the day. That's freaking fast to me... order around noon time, 5 hours later I have a tracking number. (Free shoprunner 2 day was a nice bonus)

My buddy ordered his entire build from NewEgg on 2/8/2014 and paid extra for the 3 day shipping option to Virginia. As of 2/17/2014 all he has received is the case and the GPU. NewEgg says that it won't even be delivered tomorrow and they are uncertain of when it will be there. They have zero answers and aren't even trying to help him. They haven't even offered to at least refund his shipping costs.

Crap company!

I've never really had a problem with NewEgg. But then again I have never had to return a product to them for any reason. My only real complaint is that sometimes it will take up to 2-3 days for them to just process the order nowadays. I also ordered all the components for a complete system build a few years ago with the 3-day shipping. All the components arrived on the same day and on schedule. I haven't made an order nearly that big since. The last thing I ordered from them was a monitor last year and it took them 2 days to process, 2 more days to actually be shipped, and 6 actual days to be delivered since it ran into the weekend at that point.

But now I just take advantage of my local TigerDirect store. They have a good variety of items in stock all the time at prices that sometimes rival some online retailers, even after sales tax when considering the cost of shipping. A lot of B&M stores also have good store pickup or ship-to-store options nowadays. I used to love shopping online, but picking up at the store has been my choice recently since I don't have to deal with the shipping headaches.

Update. They finally agreed to next day ship the rest of his items! This occurred at 2 pm EST. At 5 pm he checked his tracking and it says that he will receive the items on Wednesday. Guess overnight shipping is really 2 day shipping. Hopefully he receives his package this time at least.

2pm is too late to expect overnight to get it there the next day, especially if it's coming from the California warehouse.

I order overnight from Amazon at 6pm, and even though it might come from CA, I get it 100% of the time the next day. Guess Amazon is just better at shipping what they sell. I live in NC.

I still laugh at the fact of having a 280x paid 299 for it... now going rate is 499... rofl... and videocards are a waste of time when it comes to mining can't match stand alone asic miners.

so how quickly will your asic mine lite coins?

you are stupid if you think they are mining bitcoins with vid cards - at least the people who would do such a thing are.

Ordered a GT 640 from Newegg on 2/12 since it came to 39.99AR and I need a cheap video card.

They took two days to ship the item, finally doing so on 2/14. Now, it's 2/24 and the card still hasn't arrived.

The kicker is that the rebate must be postmarked within 15 days of the order date. If the card arrives tomorrow (which who knows if it will), I will have all of a day to make sure it is functional before sending off the rebate. (Which is $30, the only reason I bought the card in the first place.) I would really prefer to get the rebate out by day 14 to avoid them claiming within 15 days actual means the end of the 14th day.

I'm partially to blame for using the free shipping option, but I've learned to never do so again if a rebate is involved and Newegg is shipping the item.

Checked my e-mail this morning and got the Newegg newsletter. The "$90 off a 512GB SSD" caught my eye, as did the model.

I thought "Woh, that's a great disc--wait a minute", as I've been looking into 1TB drives and thought even the sale price was a little high. So of course, HoverHound came into play and what do I find? Before the discount code, same price as Amazon. So I just got a discount for 10 bucks off in a veiled message. Pretty douche move, Newegg.

At least they don't have their MSRP listed as $719.99. I bet Amazon's stays at $399 for the most part though, unless they sell out.

Well, as long as I've held out and said, "these people are crazy for hating the 'egg," I have now changed my opinion.

It has been going down hill recently with the constant spam of "buy stuff now" e-mails with pricing that is equal or higher to the competitors. I typically browse anonymously, but when I happen to be logged in and checking on stuff, I'll get a mysterious e-mail a few days later with the items I was checking out. I strongly dislike targeted advertising. However, they wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

Anyway, the straw that broke the camel's back came in the form of having to interact with their support team. I opened an inquiry regarding pricing and product availability of an item (said "In stock," let me add it to my cart, but magically removed it upon attempting to purchase it).

Their response was so apathetic and pitiful I was shocked. There was absolutely no effort on their part to even attempt to address my issue.

So, I've joined the dark side... I've been a long time Egg customer, but I think it's time to stop. I've had better experiences with their competitors and even with eBay!

Such is the Mango... and it's sad IMO.

What the hell is with NewEgg pricing???

I've bought a lot of stuff over the years from then but haven't in a while but thought I'd check some prices on some things I was interested in.

9 out of 10 things I've looked at today don't have a price and it says I have to request the price to be emailed or texted to me.

Then it also says you'll see the price when it's added to your cart, but it still says Request Price when it's in the cart too. I guess you have to be logged in to see the price in your cart?

Why can't I just browse, why do I have to go through extra steps just to see a price?

Stupidity is what it is.

Newegg.

Once you know, you Ne...

...ver look back from Amazon.

I put in an RMA for a board I paid $76 bucks for including shipping. After taking $11 for "restocking fee" from the $70 item cost, now it's at $59. Now take off $12 return shipping and I'm going to get $47 back of my $76 for a brand new unopened board?

Fuck. You.

At Amazon I'd pay $70 with free shipping, and if I return it I'll get $70 back with free return shipping.

Sad when you think how good Newegg once was. I added it up just now and have ordered $7711 worth of gear from Newegg in the last 5 years. That value in the future will become as close to zero as possible.

I stopped doing business with Newegg at least 4-5 years ago primarily for the same reasons: their customer service sucks, and worse, their return policy sucks. Since then, I've found other retailers for my PC needs, which take care of their customers and offer good prices and selection.

Newegg used to be the "go to" place for my PC gear. Now, it's just a shitty e-tailer that punishes the consumer.

They kicked CamelEgg out of their affiliate program which means CamelEgg now doesn't work. Looks like Newegg is digging deeper into that hole.

Seems you have left out what many here might consider important info: like oh, why you were RMA'ing a new unopened board? Not blasting you, just trying to figure out what the deal was.
