Dell U3014 unboxing :)

i got the monitor and WOW this is amazing! no dead pixels no banding issues, no tint issues, nothing. its perfect!

jonneymendoza,

sweet. glad you like it! i really do like mine. just wish i could get my 360S to output via HDMI to it. mine only draws 30-35 watts at normal PC usage. Which is 1/3rd of what my 2707 uses apparently. Huge power drop for not only a larger screen... but way more pixels. And on top of that... it weighs a sh!t load less!

As of today:

Two U3011 and one U3014. It's an A03.
7680x1600

Did you notice how the U3014 looks smaller? It's not just distortion due to the wide angle lens, it's actually a full inch shorter in width.

Interesting... Did you order directly from Dell and brand new? When did you order? What's the manufacture date? Sorry for all of the questions but still barely anyone has received a brand new A03.

Thanks

Nice. How's the bleed in the corners? I wonder how bad it is on dark screens like playing Diablo 3. Do you have any issues with the monitor or is it pretty fantastic? Thanks

I'll do more thorough testing tonight but I was very surprised at the color calibration out of the box. I took out the colorimeter and required almost no adjustments. Compared to one of my U3011 (and the other was RMA'd because of the custom color mode bug) especially.

I think the U3011 is visually more impressive. It looks wider and the thicker frame gives it a tanky look. I prefer it over the rounded corners of the U3014, but that aspect is purely subjective. I also noticed less inputs.

I have no dead pixel, no banding and no apparent bleeding.

Cool. I'm interested in your further thoughts esp picture quality. I may buy one of these soon.

Just got my U3014 last night.

Tested today; no issues at all with the banding problem that's been mentioned a few times.

No testing on overdrive or anything; dont game - but stellar for workstation stuff. Very very pleased.

Has anyone tried debezeling these? I know they're pretty slim as-is but I'm wondering if 1. it's possible 2. anyone has done it with photos.

I have 3 of them and I've never debezeled anything before so I'm looking for people who have it done or advice I suppose.

Thanks!

Sooooo.... What do you think of the monitor? :D

Sorry man, completely forgot about it.

Well I've had it for over a month now, and I've had zero issues with it. I game a lot, but I play simulation games like Crusaders King, Anno, or flight sims like IL2:COD, War Thunder, or space sims like Elite Dangerous. FPS isn't my genre, so I don't care or needs for 120mhz monitors, and I honestly don't give a shit about getting 100+FPS for a competitive edge in a game.

What matters to me is IQ and graphics fidelity and the ability to immerse myself in my work of my games, and the display delivers. No input problems (tried DVI, VGA, DP, HDMI), no calibration issue, it also runs cooler than the U3011.

No dead pixel, no ghosting, no banding and no bleeding.

Can't find a fault.

Hello TigerLord,
Could you, please, tell me if the "Rev 03" written on the back of your monitor seems "original" ?
Since I received a U3014 2 days ago. The seller (I don't bought it directly from Dell) said me that it is a Rev 03.
But on both box and monitor's back, the "Rev 03" is in fact a sticker, very similar to the original one in aspect, but it's obvious that these stickers had been put on top of the older ones. And by the way, it is written Rev 01 on the Driver CD...
I don't know if Dell made that or if it's the seller. And I don't know if it's a real Rev 03 (with a sticker that was the wrong one) or if they are trying to give me a disguised Rev 01.
But your Rev 03 seems perfect. And mine suffers from severe IPS Glow. On dark backgrounds (like in Lightroom, Photoshop elements 10, Steam interface... or this forum), it is impossible to have a normal black color when there is a view angle. So, if you are looking the screen without beeing in front of it, or more simply, if you are in front of it, but are looking in the left or right bottom corners, the black is grey.

I don't know exactly if Rev 03 is supposed to correct this issue. Perhaps not.

But reading your post about your monitor, made me thought that my rev 03 is not a real rev 03. Since mine is not fantastic, not at all !
So, I am very interested by the look of your Rev 03 stickers ;-)
(my manufacturing date is Jul 2013).

Thank you, it would be great if you can confirm me.

If you didn't buy it directly from Dell I would say you got screwed.

My sticker is definitely original, there's nothing under it, and it has that holographic feel on the silver text.

My guess is the seller had a Rev 01 but wanted to get rid of his and put up a sticker on top of it.

Colors on my U3014 are so good I can tell the difference when I send a window on either of my U3011.

Try removing the sticker and see what's under it?

Unless you sit at least 121.92cm/4ft away this is normal for 30" IPS. Turning down the brightness helps. 30" glow vs. 27" from 76.2cm/2.5ft.

Bet you are not using color management or the sRGB mode.

Thank you for your answer.
Since the box was sealed, I hoped that this sticker was put by Dell. But finally, by Dell or by the seller is not very important. If your stickers are "normal" and mine aren't, I had been screwed as you say, that's obvious now.
But I prefer not to try to remove it. I will return the monitor, so I don't want to break something or to give the seller a reason to refuse the return.

Thanks for this information.
But if it is normal, I suppose that all 30" IPS are like this ? How users can bear such a drawback ? They never display dark photos or dark backgrounds ? Or they perhaps live with this ?
Ok, when the background isn't dark, this monitor is the one for me. Splendid, very attractive. But when I launch lightroom or similar dark color software, I can't understand why I spent as much money for this... thing.

I have read the TFTCentral's review several times before buying. They talk about this (IPS glow). But they said that is is not a great issue in normal use. So I supposed that it wasn't a great problem. I was wrong. It's enormous for me o_O.

I tried to change brightness and/or contrast, I tried sRGB or Adobe RGB but it's still awful.
For me, the right corner is the worse. But if I move my head down and on the right, just in front of the power button, it's ok.
Normal stand : awful bottom right corner
"Power button" stand : Perfect. What a pity !

Finally, concerning your link, it seems that 30" monitors has the problem and 27" not, right ?

So a 27" such as U2713H or HM should be a better choice for me then ?

I was scared about the size of their pitch (too small ?), and I didn't want to loose some pixels in height (1600=>1440), so I took the U3014. A mistake apparently.
It is sad to leave this 30", but if a 27" doesn't have this IPS glow issue, it will make the deal, maybe.

Thanks a lot, and my apologies for my very poor english level :-/

Most 30" owners buy 30" because they are big, without knowing they are wide gamut and without owning a quality monitor to begin with (upgraded from a wide gamut monitor like the 2407/LP24x5/U2410).

For me, the right corner is the worse.

This is also normal, many GBR-LED back-lit monitor owners (U2713H), myself included have noticed the same thing. Wide gamut (GBR-LED) back-lit monitors glow more vs. standard gamut monitors

Finally, concerning your link, it seems that 30" monitors has the problem and 27" not, right?

Correct, 27" glow is far less pronounced vs. 30" when viewed from less than 121.92cm/4ft.

So a 27" such as U2713H or HM should be a better choice for me then?

If you don't mind pretty much being guaranteed to get a monitor with lots of quality control issues, Dell 27" 1440p monitors are the monitors to buy, especially the U2713HM.

If you want a wide gamut monitor get the Viewsonic VP2772 (Thread with reviews), if you don't need a wide gamut monitor get the Eizo EV2736W which is glow free.

Glow vs. no glow example.

In my case, I bought this 30" knowing that it's a wide gamut (even if I don't need the feature, but it seems impossible to find a 2560x1600 monitor without wide gamut).
But concerning IPS glow, yes, I had clearly underestimate the problem.

So I understood. It's better for me to leave the 30" dream, and to downsize to a 27" monitor.
I will have a look to the links and to the Eizo EV2736W that you have suggested.

Thank you for your advices.

Anyone ever get the USB 3.0 card reader to work in windows 7? I am using a Gigabyte X58-ud5 rev 2 and it works at USB 2.0 mode but when I try 3.0 I get the error to connect to a high speed usb 3 port. Not sure what else I can do.

Never tried, because although Dell claims the monitor is for photographers, they didn't bother to put a CF slot in there....

Here is myDell 3014 compared to a couple new monitors in case any of you guys are wondering if it's time to upgrade.

Cliffnote: Maybe if you want to try gsync or freesync, but I didn't like the ultrawide 35" aspect ratio, or screenheight. I PROBABLY WILL KEEP THE HP OMEN 32 as my DELL 3014 replacement (Freesync at 75hz is nice) - but I REALLY like the Dell 3014 and if I was focused mostly on desktop use or productivity instead of gaming for my home PC I'd have kept the Dell 3014.
