Which thin gaming laptop

So I am in the market for a gaming laptop. But I do not want a big heavy brick of a machine. I really want less then 1" thick.

Currently I am considering either the MSI GS70 or the Gigabyte P35K.

Of the 2 I would prefer the 15" screen of the gigabyte & the reviews say it is an awesome screen. The MSI seems to have better build quality & the obviously bigger screen + perks (such as a free 50" TV that could replace my old 32" LG in my bed room), but I really dont want the 17" screen.

Is there anything else I should be considering for the 1500ish price range.

It will be used for probably 90% web surfing & the rest for gaming, but nothing super high end (most of my gaming is blizzard games).

Also anyone know when the MSI GS60 should be out.. If it got the same perks at the GS70 it would be a no brainer (since its rumored to have a better quality screen).

Unless you're in a rush I'm wait until Cebit in Mid-March especially if you're looking for a thin and light gaming laptop with a GTX 765m or lower GPU. Nvidia is expected to announce GTX 8xxm series which will use Maxwell for GTX 860m and lower parts. The GTX 860m will be both significantly faster and lower TDP than the GTX760m/765m it replaces which makes it very suited for this new category. Manufacturers are expected to announce and/or give more details regarding refreshes utilizing it.

Could you wait for the Lenovo Y50 for example? It'd likely be better than the Gigabyte P35K and cheaper.

Mid March I can wait for as that's only a couple of weeks, but I don't know that anything that comes out at Cebit will be on the market within the next couple of months. One of the article's I found for the Y50 said its not likely to see shelves till may & I don't really want to wait that long.

Also I don't really want anything less then a 765m. I wont be doing any heavy FPS, but I want it to still be able to play modern games in a couple of years.

Edit: well found a video with a Lenovo person saying that the y50 should be out around q1 so I may be willing to wait that long.. Figuring the y50 starting at 699 I would expect that with good graphics it should be in the 1100 dollar range which would fit the bill very well.

Well to answer my own question looks like in the next 2 weeks. Its up for Pre-Order now

GPU still TBA though..

It's likely the release is pending official announcements for the GTX 8xxm series.

GTX 860m will outperform the GTX 765m. The 850m may actually even match the 765m (or better) depending on memory configuration.

Basically you will see quite a few product launches with the new GPU release.

There seems to be alot of back & forth about the 860m's performance levels. That one I will have to wait to see some hard numbers to believe. But I sure hope your right about it..

I'm in the same boat.

I am going to wait for the 860m to release, and if the power consumption is lower than the 765m I am giong to get either the MSI GS60, or the Clevo W230SS.

But if there is not much of a performance increase, I am going to try and get a used W230ST with the 765m for a little bit less. I am hoping that this happens before the end of March :(

How is the body on the gigabyte... i am worried about those because of the review of many shops and sellers getting ones that were bent or showed a very "weak" shell that bent easily and came apart.

I think you're thinking of the P35K. I don't see any structural issues with the P34G. I don't tend to try to flex my laptop but It's about as rigid as any I've used.

The 860m and 850m are so good it's going to be hard to justify the older 7 series GPUs unless they come in a LOT cheaper.

So the Lenovo y50 is out & it definitly seems to be the ticket for the price.

Question though between the following models.

59416755 & 59421845

Lenovo.com highlights the CPU & the display as being different, but the display looks to be listed as the same. Can anyone confirm? Reason I ask is that I am thinking of snagging it on amazon so I can take advantage of the 12 mos interest free financing, but they only have the 59416755 listed.

I am ok with my i5 for all processing stuff now so the CPU difference is a null point to me. Im just trying to find if there is actually a difference in the display.

Edit: nevermind I spoke with Lenovo's chat & confirmed it is the same display. However I found another catch point in that it voids the warranty if you replace any components yourself & I am not willing to go back to any type of mechanical drive after being on an 500gb SSD for so long.

It depends how obvious you are I suppose :p

Well since the laptop only comes with 1 option for the drive if there was anything else & a service tech looked at it I imagine it would be pretty obvious.

That would be being obvious, swapping the drive back if you had any issues would be less obvious.
