Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

There are new recipes that drop (at least I think they are new...). I found a a recipe that gave me 2 set items. They weren't very good for a monk though. My buddy also found a weapon recipe which wasn't too bad. I think good recipes exist, you just have to find them.

Can't help on the crafting, although I do have both maxed, I just don't see anything in the recipe book that would be better yet. Maybe I'm not looking at the right stuff or maybe I am missing some crafting recipes.

Well, one weird thing I noticed is that if you go to craft armor, it will have a range of values you can get for the Armor numbers, and so far all of the stuff I have crafted fell into that range. However, if you go to craft a weapon, it will display a single DPS number (say, 30.5 or something), but when you craft that weapon, the DPS is randomized.

So, a couple of my questions specifically would be:

1) How/when does the range of Armor values go up? Is it when you level up, or when the blacksmith levels up?

2) Why do weapons not have a range of DPS values like armor does?

Blizz baiting us...

Yeah, I know why they are doing it, it's just infuriating. I found a legendary crafting material for a weapon that is only craftable in RoS, apparently.

Is crafting better because the gems drop more, or was something actually changed to make crafting not worthless?

Crafting was changed to not suck.

Now instead of getting random results, the crafts are appropriate for your class. A wizard will get Int as the primary stat on most crafted items, not Dex or whatever. Some of the crafts will be useful combos like Int+Vit+Armor+Cold damage+pickup radius. Maybe not useful to your specific build, but decent. All of the dropped loot is that way too.

The Archon recipes are better than any drops you will get. I think the merchant in a2 sells them.

I have all of the recipes, not sure about the ingredients though. I have a whole stash page full of crafting stuff though from previous years of farming and such. So will these archon recipes give me immunity to arcane and charm undead on hit and stuff like that, or just better from a pure stat perspective, like more int/crit/etc?

Just a heads up, +50% exp from now until game launch. Get it while it's hot!

Yea I saw the buff earlier as I was heading in to kill the Skeleton King. Wonder if they are doing this to keep people from trying PoE's little expansion? Regardless it is a nice buff to exp gains. :)

All the timing with D3's patch and stuff makes me think they do fear PoE, at least a little.

Also, with the removal of Normal / Nightmare / Hell playthroughs being mandatory, does that mean you do not have to clear the game 3 times anymore on new characters? You can just beat the story once and do whatever you want from thereon out?

Works for me, I just started playing not too long ago. :)

Well, to play Master you have to beat Act IV at least once on Normal or Hard, and to play Torment you have to have at least one character to level 60. So there are still some restrictions but no, you don't have to replay the whole game 3 times.

Congratulations to those who cried enough to get the AH and trading of legendaries removed from the game, essentially killing the economy aspect. I think they went to far at release with the RMAH and now they went way to far the other way.

You will soon find that though you find items that have insane base stat and vitality that you will still need those items that increase the big three.

IAS
CC
CD

Thus even when something looks like an upgrade it isn't once you put it on. Attack speed is the mother of all because it determines how many procs you get to trigger you critical hits and other "on attack" items (life on hit, etc).

You will hit a gear cap quickly and will realize that the upgrades you need are very specific, and you have no way of trading the legendaries you find for what you want (for example you know that a certain legendary wand has IAS). Targeting a specific build will be difficult. Completing a set will be impossible.

Hopefully there is more to discover in crafting and re-rolling of legendaries. Plus you will start to get higher level gear in the expansion.

Yeah cause if they didn't drop plans for RoS for non-RoS people would complain they didn't drop RoS in case they want the expansion in the future.

Oh would they? People are used to the way they do expansions in WoW, so I doubt you'd hear any complaints.

That may be the case, but as someone that has spent more money (and probably time) on POE than D3, I'll say I'm probably not touching POE again. The amount of desync in that game is absurd. Complete builds are ruined because it 'doesn't work with the netcode'. Having put a large amount of time into D3 in the past week and not desyncing once is refreshing. The fluidity of D3's combat can't be beat (even by D2).

Also, POE's devs seem to have some kind of hard-on for making the game as RNG based as possible. Most of the additions in the expansion just add even MORE layers of RNG on top of RNG. The Vaal orbs (and crafting in general), corrupted areas, the entire hardcore league is nothing but RNG on what monsters are going to show up so you can't even stategize around it (so lets stack even more HP/ armor / resists).

Those people would be stupid, then, because what other games tease you with items you can't use unless you buy an expansion, and especially an unreleased expansion? I cannot think of any that I have played in the last...well, ever.

I understand why they are doing that and if I was going to buy the expansion I might be like, yeah, okay this is cool, gearing up for the new loot/character. But as someone who has no intention to buy the expansion any time soon for $40, it's a bit off-putting to get gear that is literally worthless (other than the small amount of gold you can get from a vendor) to me rather than gear drops that I might actually use.

Agreed. I am looking forward to trying PoE again when they finally implement trade so that I can actually progress a bit. I'm thinking I'll really like this new D3 because I can actually play the game and get upgrades. (kinda like how PoE is during Normal, and D3 was during your first playthrough too)

I desync all day in PoE and D3. It depends on your geographic location to the D3 servers. I'm on the East Coast so I lose connection to the servers at least 3 times an hour. That's why I don't play Hardcore in D3.

I play hardcore on D3 and only have been disconnected when my ISP drops, not from the actual server dropping me. Only once did I get kicked from my Hardcore game, and that was when Blizz kicked EVERYONE for a second the day after the patch hit, and no reason was given that I know of.

I have yet to die in Hardcore mode, so I'm good.

I haven't had any server issues to speak of with D3 yet. Still don't really have much interest in trying Hardcore, though.

Well I don't know where there servers are located, but the best ping I can get according to the Blizzard meter is 120ms. From there is rises to 300ms and above. Now compare that to BF4 where the servers I play on I have less than 20ms ping. Basically I can't play on servers in Texas or further west. It's just a complete lag fest. One of the relays along the way really hates Time Warner Cable. America's internet infrastructure just plain sucks. :)

I have blasted out about 10 Skeleton king runs each under 2 hours.

In terms of what is found its pretty much the same. I have found the same 10 or so Items 2 or 3 times each just like I did previously.

A dude I play with got a sweet item that increese his movement speed when he breaks something....His demon hunter is now much faster then my fastest monk build. Recorded a quick run to the skeleton king.

Where do you see what ping you are getting in D3?

Props to Blizzard on 2.01, they finally got it right. I've been playing all day and I haven't been able to stop, CANNOT WAIT till RoS is released...

How is that even fun lol. All you do is run around with your aura killing everything in the room..

He was in normal mode. The bug was such that every Skel King kill on quest reset dropped a legendary. It was the same for normal difficulty. It's been fixed. I never bothered trying because I hate losing my WPs from quest reset.

It's strange how um.. accessible the new content is. Almost like the latest patch contained all the RoS content, just locked away until official release. I just beat Diablo using my WD character and you can select D3 vanilla or RoS credits at the end :) I don't recall anymore what the old music was but the music that plays during the credits could even be new to RoS.

Also, I discovered that if you bring up the game menu by pressing Esc, you can view what appears to be the first narrative cinematic of the new Act V content... (not a full CGI cinematic if there is one, but one of those "animated illustrations" kind)

Anyhow it's actually been rather entertaining playing these last couple days. I have found more legendaries in the past 2 days than I did in all my previous D3 experience. It is kind of fun to finally see and play with all the items I never had a hope of playing with in the original game. I even found those one bracers that spawns the elite pack when you touch a shrine.. hehe.

With new loot 2.0 system though, I think there is one potential drawback which is if you want good gear to drop for a particular character, you have to go play as that character otherwise the stats will not roll in favor of another character type. For example I can get good boots or something playing as WD but a lot of them have stats like "zombie dogs does 15% more damage", etc. that would not be useful for another character class. I don't know to what extent this affects legendaries, if they are biased towards a specific character class, depending on what you were playing as when it dropped.

Well I gave it the ol college try but it's pretty much the same game at 60 in my opinion. :(

That hadn't been fixed as of this morning. Not sure if they'll be patching it out in today's maintenance or not, but they plan to move that guaranteed legendary drop bonus to the Diablo kill instead of SK. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/11909940878?page=4#69

It doesn't really make a difference since you still have to go through the rest of the game in order to unlock the "reset quests" button again, regardless of what boss the guaranteed legendary drops from, but Diablo makes more sense.

Also, what's up with the 2-handers? Even the legendaries I've been getting are spawning with like 900-1100 DPS max...and my 1H have been up in the 1200's. Not sure how they could possibly have looked at that and thought "2H is fine"...

Yeah 2-handers suck still. I thought they'd increase the damage but it doesn't look like it. I think the problem stems from the fact that Crusaders can wield a 2-hander AND a shield... so they're balancing around that unfortunately (just like Monks and single resistances).

That said, there's a specific 2H Sword that procs a projectile that does 300% weapon damage on every attack. It's so good the only thing my Barb friend considered ditching it for was 2 1400 dps 1-handers.

Gotta love Archon form. Usually at 230K dmg.

RNG is messing with me... played for 2h30 last night doing T3 without a death....

1 Legend...stupid Sky Splitter :rolleyes::mad:

Still only one good legend found in a week :( and it was the only upgrade in my gears

Have you ever played a racing game or time attack? Its pretty much that. We managed to go through all for acts in under an hour....should have recorded it but I doubt anyone wants to see an hour of that. I have a blast blasting through the game I find a ton of gear too.

Based on my observation of the Items, weapons in particular, I would say they are setting up for a New Ladder. They removed all the low end shit gear that used to drop but also removed the High end stuff too making the disparity so much less. The removal of the high end (Weapons mostly) sucks for anyone already running a good weapon as you'll never find anything better.

first elite I killed last night dropped a legendary one handed axe with like 1100dps and loaded with percs. loot 2.0 rulez! :D I am just having a blast hacking and slashing through hoards of baddies. This is the game it should have been from the get-go.

I have been away for a while, but I have been playing a couple nights trying out the new patch. I find gear with like crazy that offers huge numbers in dexterity (for my Monk) and Vitality. The game seems to prioritize vitality given that it shows large increases in the "Toughness" number. After I think about it though, I really don't like the idea of giving up a lot of All Resistance just to gain extra HP.

Playing through on Torment 1 or 2, I seem to be finding 1 or 2 legendaries per Act. They are disappointing though in that they aren't quite the right stats to replace yellows that I have equipped, and I can't sell them to find something more suitable. Now, while I find way more of them, they are way less exciting to find.

I played the game a lot for six months after release, but I still find it hard to find a good balance for a Monk between DPS and damage mitigation. I refuse to use the RMAH to buy things and never had the time to do serious farming.

Anyways, I am still addicted to the game and have RoS preordered.

is deleting the same as salvaging? I would at least like to get some crafting materials out of it

If you delete your character (and the gear with it) you won't get anything from them.

If you want some crafting materials you'll have to salvage each piece of equipment first. :)

Same here, only found 1 upgrade (more like side grade) so far for my Wiz in T2 since patch was released. Where are all these awesome upgrades? Good thing was I was able to upgrade all my gems for cheap, but gosh forbid you try and buy any off the AH...you better have them stock piled is all I'm saying.
