Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 Demo

It seems to me that this is, really, more of a "simulator" than many other games of its type. Hell, it could be a great training tool for budding mechanics.

<----Has the game.
Was cheap, and is kind of fun if you don't go in expecting anything more than a time waster.
If i remember correctly, you do get to test drive after you do fixes it to see if it runs well, but haven't played it a large amount, so don't quote me on that. :)
As for the Train simulator, it's no worse than setting up a train set and diaroma in your basement or spare room and playing with it. Probably a lot cheaper too.
Of course, if they come out with a septic system cleaner simulator, THEN i'll say we've gone to far. :D

Wish this was the Surgeon Simulator except for cars. An auto mechanic working on an engine while the car is going through traffic in a gun-toting car chase!

Why did you have to separate the MAF from the airbox lid to remove it? Not much of a "simulator".

I have real cars; have enough of them, and at least one always needs attention. :)

No simulator is going to be accurate enough to guide you thru setting the timing correctly if you've never done it before; there are too many ways to screw up.

Especially with aftermarket components...

:)

Someone must be buying them because there are more and more every day. I myself am tempted to buy Euro Truck Simulator 2 even though I made fun of it mercilessly when I first saw it.

I too laughed and heckled ETS2 when I saw it. It then went to less than $7 for the winter sale and I figured, why not? I had chuckled while watching some LPs so I figured I'd get $7 of fun. I was not disappointed. It's not all just straight highways, the missions are alright and you have to stay awake so as to not tip your trailer. But, the best part? By far? The default radio stations. They're all European internet ratio stations and by far my favorite is Złote Przeboje, a Polish station if you didn't gather. I was immediately sold when Baju Baj came on and I immediately recognized it as a Polish rendition of Jambalaya on the Bayou. Seriously, how much more entertaining can it get than listening to a smattering of old American rock interspersed with Polish rock and Polish renditions of old American rock?

150 parts per car. That is cute. I run a shop. I can have up to 150 parts in one schematic. They have these cars on a scissor lift with a temporary mini jack suspending the front wheel. First of all, who has a scissor lift anymore when an arm lift or a four post drive on is cheaper, just as strong, and easier to work around? Second if I saw a jack sitting on my drive on lift like that, I would have some serious questions.
Lastly, I work on vehicles, look at parts and workshop manuals, and deal with people who have a malfunctioning vehicles all day long. I have absolutely no desire to come home and do the same thing in a virtual world. Hell I bring my work orders and warranty claims home with me because it is so much easier to work at night when things are quite.

Why did you have to separate the MAF from the airbox lid to remove it? Not much of a "simulator".

Because, even in simulator world, car companies still use the absolute minimum length of wire for all connections, such that removing the airbox without removing the MAF would rip the wires out of the MAF.

They treat wiring as if every unnecessary inch of slack comes directly out of the CEOs salary or something.

Some lifts have bottle-jacks built into the lift deck itself

Downloaded the demo and played with it. I can see a lot of potential in something like this.

Is it completely like working on a real car? Nope. Is any "simulator" out there really like doing whatever it's simulating? Nope. Does "Car Mechanic Simulator" come relatively close? Maybe.

You definitely do need some basic knowledge about cars to be able to perform some of the repairs. Some of the animations are pretty funny and childish, but overall, this could have been so much worse. I can see a lot of potential in it, not as a game, but as an educational tool for student mechanics. They can practice something before they go and damage a part and cost themselves a lot of money. If this was a little cheaper, I would absolutely get it just as a fun time waster, because it does provide some level of entertainment.

TL;DR, Not a terrible game, good time waster, not really a good simulator, or for people that really know cars well.

I guess one good thing I can say is that this is a PC title with an actual demo. More than you can say for most PC games these days.

It has potential. Unfortunately, i don't buy games for their potential. Some of the repairs are a little wacky. Why am i taking apart the entire air intake tract to get the air filter out? Lots of details are missing. The starter has no wires, fuel filter has no fuel lines. Really, it just needs a lot of fleshing out

Seriously, Gearhead Garage is one of my all time favorite games and it had very simple wrenching like this, but it added so much more to it that made it fun. Buying junk cars, fixing them up, customizing them, etc, etc. This game is like Gearhead Garage but with all the fun parts missing.

If anyone ever makes a game that is equal parts Gearhead Garage, Street Rod and BeamNG.Drive, i would buy that in a heart beat!

Still, what does that have to do with removing the airbox lid to change the air filter? Anyone who has spent any real time working on cars will see right off how this is nothing like working on real cars, to me it is nothing more than a time waster, click until something happens and see if you "fixed" it.

Now all I have to do is wait for the influx of people onto the car forums I frequent who have played this thinking they are master mechanics now...

Who is playing all these "games" in which you get to do boring jobs that you have to pay people to do normally?

I assume they have a plumber and janitor simulator now too? Toss kitty litter, mop up vomit.

You could say that about WOW too :p There are lots of gold farmers in asia being paid to play it.

Sorry guys; cars are cool and being able to wrench on them is great; but unless you OWN your own shop you don't want to do it for a living.

My own experience has taught me that after working on cars at work the last thing I want to do is work on my own car at home.

Being a dealership tech does have some perks if you own the brand of car that you work on. Also the way manufactures pay for warranty repairs leaves room for making a few extra bucks. A lot of extra bucks if you learn to write creatively.

It's a good idea with extremely poor execution. The game does not appeared detailed enough to call itself a "simulator".

Because it isn't. It's a piece of shit game with "Simulator" tacked onto the end of it. It's amazing people are buying it, props to the shit developers for still being able to make money.

Being a former mercedes benz dealership tech this one sounds like something I might get a kick out of.

Wonder how close to reality this is. Will I have a chance to find random guns and ammo stashed in the seats? How about the occasional plastic dildo?

Will there be bonus rounds where I will have a chance to pad my billable hours by lying.er...I mean writing creative repair descriptions?

I spun wrenches professionally for close to twenty years. To me this game is like pulling teeth........to a dentist. I still hate to open the hood for any reason even after retiring from the life for 10 years.

Dildo stories- Female customer comes in complaining of an occasional buzz noise from under the drivers seat. Thought it might be a bad motor or seat control module. Nope. big old vibrator wedged under the seat and when you sat just right the seat bottom would hit the on button and turn mr pleasurevibe 2000 on.

Don't get started on pencil whipping ROs. That creative writing class my sophomore year of college paid for itself any times over. Even the FoMoCo warranty auditor was impressed.

Have a family (brother in law) member and several friends that are mechanics. The horror stories they tell about trying to make a living at is frightening.
Hate to paint in such generalization but a lot of repair shops; big and small are crooked.
Not only crooking the customers, but the employees. Many of the times the policies are the mechanic has to eat any repairs the customer isn't satisfied with.
The worst can be dealerships!
Typically they will have signs everywhere stating ASC certified, or Factory trained mechanics. There might be only 1 mechanic that has any real certs (or sometimes only the service writer) and the rest are low wage shade tree mechanics. But the owners of the dealerships generally don't give a @%# about customer satisfaction, they want to sell you a car and if they can scam you by telling you your car is junk and not worth fixing they will use that leverage to get you to trade it in on a new car.

One of my personal favorites was replacing front corner turn signal bulbs on second generation GL and ML SUVs . MB specs say that the front bumper cover has to be removed to replace the bulb. If your hands are small enough you can just BARELY get to the bulb from under the hood, takes five minute if you're going slow. Of course I would write "Removed front bumper cover to gain access to turn signal assembly. Removed turn signal assembly. Removed and replaced bulb. Reinstalled turn signal assembly. Reinstalled front bumper cover".

Get too funny and the manufacturer's warranty claim people will fuck you hard. Keep it plausible was a good rule of thumb.

Supposedly there was a guy at the Mercedes dealership that got too fancy with a bunch of warranty sunroof repair writeups. He wrote that he had to take down the whole headliner to access the sunroof cassette.

MB told him suck a dick and charged him back like a week's worth of labor.
