Going after a Wii U

Also, last night was the first time the red light started blinking on the gamepad which was frustrating b/c i barely had been using it it seems.

My suggestion would be to get the Nyko uboost. I'm going to get one ASAP. I heard it doubles the life of the gamepad.

I've just taken to playing with the power plugged into the controller. I know we all want wireless, but realistically, we're all sitting a few feet from an outlet anyway. As long as a wire doesn't have to go from the controller to the console, I'm fine.

Been doing the same thing with my 3DS. Seems a lot easier than worrying about battery life or buying new hardware...

Already putting my cart together. NSMBU and NSLBU WiiU bundle, getting SM3DWorld and the mario/luigi wii-motes as well. Also going to grab the new mario party game too. (When its available)

Hey, when you set up your account or whatever add me on there. My Nintendo Network ID is the same as my username: zamardii.

Enjoy. I'm sure your son and yourself will enjoy the hell out of it come Xmas time.

for the first time since the wii u launch, my local target has been sold out for the last 3 days on wii u...

Oh yeah!?! Well the PS4 has been sold out since launch...

Oh wait, that's teletran8's call to make with his fanboy attitude ;) :) :p

Seriously, I'm glad to see the Wii U selling well lately. The price for the new bundles, the launch of SM3DW, the coming games (DK, SMB, Zelda, X, etc etc) are really helping the sales.

I'm happy I picked up mine and I'm having a blast playing it with others! (haven't got time to start my single-player games yet)

You can buy any bundle for Wii U on Amazon. Just sayin. :p

Oh yeah it's like 2 weeks before Christmas according to my calendar :D Why the hold up.

The Wii U Deluxe Set with New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Luigi U is the only bundle that seems to sell decent on Amazon if I had to guess @ $359.68 yee-ouch! You ate to many mushrooms Mario....go home.

OH, almost forgot, Nintendo is broadcasting a Nintendo Direct tomorrow to show off Wii U and 3DS games coming out this spring. It'll probably be Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart 8, Bravely Default and a few other 3DS games, but there's some that people are hoping to hear about, like Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros and anything not yet announced.

Good luck. I'd recommend an external hard drive to go with it. And games.

I won :)

I have a relatively large external hard drive but it's 3TB and I see it will only recognize up to 2TB. I can't imagine me even coming close to 500gb worth of games and what not on the storage. Any recommendation for an external drive?

Congrats on the auction. You're gonna love the Wii U. I'm playing the shit out of Super Castlevania 4. It's great being able to play it on the Gamepad. Super Mario Bros 3D World is amazing too. Highly suggest it.

You mostly just want to make sure that it's a USB drive that has it's own power supply. Don't go for portable drives if they get their power from the USB. That's the biggest thing I'd want to make sure.

or use a y power cable

I'm looking forward to playing some of the classics again since I don't have the original NES or SNES console anymore along with the new Super Mario Bros 3D. I'm also hoping my 5 1/2 year old can get some use out of it too. I had been debating getting a Wii U for everyone to use or getting her a 3DS XL. I like the idea of playing together versus her sitting on the couch zoned out solo at this stage. My daughter actually played through a couple levels of Castle Crashers on Xbox360 so I have a feeling she'll dig Mario.

Good to know, I'll see what I can find on newegg.

I just picked up a U (NSMB Bundle) on Sunday. Also picked up Mega Man X. I don't know what kind of upscaling/filtering they do for VC titles, but to me they look really great on a 1080p display. NSMB is........well, NSMB. I'll be getting SM3DW when my backlog subsides a bit.

or use a y power cable

Just a word of warning about using a y cable. It seems that the Wii U doesn't behave properly with using this method in conjunction with downloading games in standby. The Wii U recognized and formatted the external drive and I can start the downloads to the external drive just fine. The problem is once the Wii U automatically turns off or I turn it off it corrupts the download and randomly locks the Wii U up.

I removed the hard drive and started the download to the internal Wii U memory and it downloads just fine in standby mode. So I think the action of cutting power off to the drive is corrupting the download (which is probably why Nintendo recommends a drive that uses an external source for power.

I'm curious about the VC stuff. At one point I read that they were stretching these games to fill a 1080p display and read that they fixed this and the games now display in their proper 4:3 form but that there is some filtering over them. Is that true? Does there appear to be some blurriness to the games or do they look crisp?

Look at this site:
http://filthypants.blogspot.com/2010/12/crt-pixel-shader-filter-for-snes.html

Scroll down a bit and you see the crisp image, the baseline. Below that you see it with filters applied to it. What does Wii U VC most closely resembly as far as those filters goes?

I prefer the crisp look and probably won't migrate my original Wii stuff over if the Wii U is going to filter it.

I might be receiving one as a Christmas gift. Looking forward to catching up on the first party games.

The clean RGB pic with nothing.
The best comparison would be the 'Scale 3X' filter used in Mame and other emulators. Strictly pixel scaling with no filtering. Very clean and clear. The aspect ratio is correct.

I have used a powered hub with mine since day one only uses one Usb and works perfect with my 2 tb wd 2.5 drive

Got mine and it's a pretty nice system. I'm glad to see that it has the common streaming options, too. I didn't know that was a feature.

Anyway, I'm trying to migrate data from my Wii and it appears that the network is being hammered. I imagine the only reason I was able to get mine updated was because I did it last night after 12AM.

Apparently their online services are jacked up tonight. Took me an hour to create my Nintendo ID and get it linked to my Mii account. Still can't use Netflix. Able to download updates and browse the Web fine from the gamepad.

Anyone else having issues?

Nintendo and Sony have had issues all day Xbox live had FIFA matchmaking issues that's it

Update, have had the WiiU for a little over a week now, waiting on my order from BestBuy for Wonderful 101 and Mario 3d World as well as a Mario controller for my son. I am impressed with my unit and have already played a bit with Mario 3d World and am VERY happy with my decision to go ahead and buy it now!

^ if you use streaming services, you will find the Wii U experience to be very good I have Netflix and Amazon prime and they both are outstanding on the Wii U

Been loven on my Wii U last 2 weeks now, having a blast with Mario 3d World and than suddenly

tonight

console shut itself off in the middle of a game

no power to unit anymore

tried reset technique, tried a bunch of things, console appears dead. Very upset.

Don't want to call Nintendo as I hear they tend to send refurbs when they cant fix or power refuses to turn. Game disc stuck inside unit. Not happy.

Nintendo service is far superior to MS/Sony just call them

I am going to be borrowing my friends adapter to see if its just my adapter first, after that, if it still don't work, Nintendo will be getting a call.

I sent the Wii U into NOA, they ended up replacing the main board in the unit. Got it back today, plugged it in

No power.

Again

Tried to reset power adapter again, nothing.

Going to call NOA Monday.

damn. that sucks. You are just incredibly unlucky. Bought mine used off craigslist and have not had a problem. In fact, I have yet to read anybody complain of anything similar. Don't give up. Maybe this time they'll just replace the whole thing.

It makes me wonder why these companies fuck around trying to repair the unit or send a refurb, when they could just send out a new unit and be done with it. They can fix and sell refurbs on their own time.

I had problems with a 3rd party psu, finally the Nintendo branded ones are available so I replaced it with an original one and problem solved when I travel

Im using the original adapter.

The initial problem was the unit, so they replace the main board, I do not think the wii u itself is bad now, I think when it went earlier both the wii u and power adapter died at the same time, I never sent in the adapter cause at the time they said don't send it, now I think the adapter needs to be replaced, this sux though, that will be 2 months without a working Wii U and I really want to play and finish SM3DW and Wonderful 101.
