The Elder Scrolls Online

Think I found my build @ launch...yes, I'm buying the game ;)

I've been playing a Khajit Nightblade Shadow for about 6-7 hrs today and I've been having a blast. Primary focus is on stealh/bow/2-handed axe for DPS, it's damn good fun.

sooo, is there anyone else besides me that will be playing this on release?

*crickets crickets*

On release? Hell no. FFXIV: ARR pretty much guaranteed that I will never pre-order another MMO because, fuck that launch day bullshit. Once they get things settled in and people have been talking about the game a bit? Maybe. I played through that first area in the beta and enjoyed it, so there is a chance I might dive into the game down the road.

It's really not a good sign that I was bored after about 20 minutes of playing it earlier today. My experience was exactly what my coworkers had told me theirs was in previous betas: "MEH."

I'll keep playing this weekend to see if it gets any better, but I have my doubts.

*Sigh* Is Wildstar here yet?

Most MMOs today seem to have a good deal of folks running around soloing to max level.
Yes, I want people to be able to game however they wish and I'm not interested in that myself.
If I knew some people who wanted to group and level/adventure at a chill pace I might try it again.

In addition, all characters of around a similar level tend to look the same; I've never cared for that either.
Most gear is fairly bland and generic so it doesn't tax hardware.

I play Skyrim with a ton of mods and I've created custom gear and mods with the Creation Kit. I love being
able to alter the game to my tastes. None of my characters look stock or generic and none of my followers
are stock or generic either. I could say the same about their skills/builds. I use the UFO mod so I may have
plenty of followers. I rarely use more than two or three though. If I'm not going to group and even do things like
RP, I'd rather just fire up something like Skyrim. Yes, I realize no MMO is going to match a well modified Skyrim
at customization and control.

I have 2 questions.
1. If you recieve a beta invite for this weekend does that mean you can only play this weekend or everyday after this weekend?
2. If i wanted to move my ESO to another PC can i just copy it over or wont that work and i have to do a redownload ect.

Neverwinter did the same exact thing and the world didn't end. They probably sold a shit-ton of CEs.

 Neverwinter was a gigantic flop, why the fuck would anyone want to copy them, especially anything related to their payment model?

Lol if you think Wildstar is any different. Same exact thing but worse.

Well I have been trying to play it .... however technical issues keep me from leaving the starting area.

You're not alone.... even with the absolutely craptacular UI that has had all general MMO features butchered out of it and then called "minimalistic" rather than making options and having them be good-looking... the Cyrodiil/AvA/pvp gameplay is too damn good to ignore for me, and endgame pve is pretty well-done in veteran ranks.

I for one am glad they went for a minimalistic UI.

I don't want to play a menu game, i'd rather see the atual game rather then 50 hotbars, minimap/radar's/huge raid bars, etc.

... which sadly plagues a lot of MMOs nowadays. I have friends who play WoW and are pretty much "OCD" on having nearly every "useful" mod for them when they go to raids.

Even the UI for FFXIV seems a little cluttered for my taste and I've done what I can to minimize it from overcrowding my screen. I've actually liked FFXI's because it was minimalistic for me.

ESO's UI works in some ways, and it's nice to see they've borrowed some ideas from Skyrim (and possibly its mods). You can find armors, weapons, crafting items, and consumables somewhat easily.

I'm still on the fence whether to pre-order or not. On one hand, I like TES as a single-player gaming series and the lore and story, but on the other hand, this MMO still needs something to help differentiate it further from other MMOs on the market and not be just an Elder Scrolls game with Online and MMO slapped on it like they did with Star Wars TOR-- which was basically WoW mechanics and Star Wars slapped on it. Too many MMOs are too similar nowadays, and too similar to World of Warcraft especially in terms of questing and missions, raids, item acquisition, and leveling and grinding. Play MMOs as long as I have, you'd be wishing for something different, too.

I agree with you. I have tried most newer mmo's to give them a fair shake and the only one that I really enjoyed and it felt different to me was The Secret World (mainly because of it's setting and actual decent storylines with adventure game elements).

For TESO I am hoping what can set it apart is the PVP. With some of the DAOC people behind it I hope it can bring back the fun of the tri-realm pvp and setting.

Regarding the UI again, one of the things I love about ESO's UI, and things that I wish every-single game UI did (even single player games), AUTO HIDE.

It makes things so much nicer when the game auto hides windows when you don't need them.

IE - no one talking? Auto hide the Chat window
Not in combat? Auto hide the hotbar/combat window.

1. no
2. yes

I like the loading screen and then fall to your death thing when trying to get out of the starter area, but the UI is most likely going to cause me to cancel my preorder.

The fact that I can't see a chat window all the time is slightly annoying, but I could get over that. What I'm not going to be able to deal with is the lack of support for users of 3 monitors. Has anyone heard this complaint and a response from Zenimax or Add-On creators? No movable UI is just a dealbreaker for me...

Ya I loaded it up again to play with a couple buddies who want to try it out so I made a new character to start with them but none of us could leave Coldharbor.

For those of us playing on launch, we'll have to get together in game.

I may end up eating my words and picking this up. A couple of my RL gaming buddies are enjoying the beta enough that they want to play. I'm sure they'll end up ditching the game again like they did with AoC and Rift but I still enjoy their company.

This is the only thing I'm really enjoying about the game and one the reasons I'll probably play.

Still downloading...

I will probably wait for the PS4 release if I like the game on PC.

Me seeing the UI on my screen doesn't affect your display. I'm glad you like having no UI, but why should I be forced to because of your preferences when there are normally options to do it either way?

it wont let me log in, even after a password reset, apparently my login info is wrong? maybe im trying to log into the wrong website?

I can't get onto the forum but I can get into the account page. The forum tells me the account info is wrong.

Addons will come if the game is popular. Do not fret Mr. GoldenTiger.

The api is extremely limited and does not contain the kind of functionality needed to make nameplates, a minimap, etc.

All that aside even if it were doable (and it isn't), why should it be relegated to third party addons which are done on a whim by people in their spare time? They aren’t ever integrated as well as native features.

Mr. Cute-T Troll has spoken.

What? How am I trolling?

I read on the first page that you had to pay $15 a month for this, I haven't gone through all the pages but now that people are downloading it maybe its changed? If you want me to troll then expect lot's troll PM's.

Uh-huh. The remarks you make are always thrown into pre-launch threads on MMO's to troll... trust me, no one believes you're that ignorant having been around here for more than half a decade ;).

Sorry what?

I don't play play MMO's and don't usually comment on the threads in the gaming section unless GTA or next gen consoles. I think you have me confused with another person, look at my past posts to see anything related with MMO's.

Benefit of the doubt explanation: people generally troll MMO threads by saying they're failing, going f2p, and asking if they can be played offline. So your post sure looks like a troll ;).

"Uh swear, ossifer... I didn' know!"

Ohh ok no problems then, nah not trolling here but there is nothing wrong to ask if there is offline mode or f2p, I mean look at AoC I remember reading reviews that it was paid subscription service like Wow, then it changed to f2p but with limitations, speaking of f2p I think Rift has gone f2p as well.

Trust me I wouldn't give 2 shits about an online MMO but since buying and modding the heck out of Skyrim as of late, this game has caught my attention or two.

Yeah, a lot of mmo's have gone "f2p" lately, which unfortunately usually costs more than just subscriptions if you want all the content, except the ones with subs you can buy from other players like Eve or (soon) Wildstar...

Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding. ESO's kinda an interesting beast, not quite enough like an Elder Scrolls game but also not enough like an MMO to necessarily satisfy either camp fully. There's a LOT of content to go through though and if you are into Elder Scrolls you'll enjoy the storylines in my opinion and overall gameplay, at least past the starter islands which are horrifically linear. It's got issues but it's worth buying in my opinion for now.

I have major concerns with a lot of the core things though at this point as well as the devs' design philosophies, but hoping they'll start interacting and really acting on the beta feedback at launch. Hopefully it's quick enough at launch that they can keep people around :(. Months and months ago I figured "hey, they have time to still work this stuff out", but they do not seem to see many of the real issues as problems. Hopefully once the financials hit they will act quickly on them.

"Uh swear, ossifer... I didn' know!"

I usually just ignore those, they seem to swoop in with tons of negative comments, then repost them when something positive comes in.

Maybe if we stop replying to them they will go away.

Sadly I missed yet another beta invite for this due to a busy schedule. I am really hoping to get to try it.

Part of me hates it because I loved Skyrim so much and would love to see a proper followup, but I am still curious.

Just because ESO exists doesn't mean we won't get another single player Elder Scrolls title. ESO is made by a different developer after all.

This issue was incredibly frustrating. I must have tried 15-20 times to get out the starter area, with my orc and it never worked. I ended up creating an argonian and it worked the first time ... coincidence ? possibly.

I am concerned with the numerous issues, crashes, loading, and gfx issues this close to launch.

"Uh swear, ossifer... I didn' know!"

You throw out this word "troll", but maybe those of us that have been through a dozen or more MMO releases are just being cynical and trying to warn everyone else? Myself and others have pointed out a ton of the issues with this game, which point right towards that path of "f2p" or "going to fail".

This game is going to fail. You know it is. At best it will be a niche title that holds on to a core sub base for ~2years. Maybe one free "mini-expansion" (which will just be the endgame raiding that wasn't ready at release) and two pvp updates (to fix the balance which will be screwed up at release, then to make it easier for noobies to try to attract new players).

The pvp/rvr is clearly the most appealing aspect of the game...in a series that has traditionally been about exploring, story, dungeon crawling. Its not the elder scrolls that people want, its not natural to the series world, and its going to cause conflict in the playerbase that guarantees that a large portion (half?) will not like the direct the devs focus the game.

Being negative/cynical =/= trolling. Try to expand your vocabulary.

Personally, i think EQNext has more potential to be the next killer mmo, especially if player creation from Landmark end up being complex enough to be their own "full featured" content (scripting enemies, events, etc); and that content makes it into the main game. But that game could suck too, it is Sony behind it.

I agree with your concerns, I have done several betas now and this one seems the least polished. Yesterday i had to reloadui about 15 times in 3 hours of play.

Especially since this is set to launch in less than 2 months.
