And I thought they are both Sharp screen, if so, how come the PQ321 is 800:1

Dell's website has info about the panel guarantee but it relates to dead pixels basically.

The Asus and Dell screens ar eusing Sharp IGZO tech panels, but different panel parts (Asus is standard gamut and Dell wide gamut for a start), which is why there are spec differences
 
where's your source saying 1 mth. from now? And name a brand that has 3840 x 2160 in HDMI 2.0 computer LCD coming out next mth.?

I thought w/ display port 1.2, these resolution are already at 3840x2160, which is also the resolution support by HDMI 2.0. In other words, what do you gain when HDMI 2.0 come out?

No monitors with HDMI 2.0 have been announced or even really speculated about afaik, just some TVs with nebulous release dates.

Displayport 1.2 can support 3840x2160, but only at 30Hz unless there are two stream controllers built-in, and results in split screen 4K (you get two 1920x2160 images on your monitor). Some games look absolutely horrible like Crysis 3 with screen flickering and frames updating at different times, so you can really tell you are looking at two 1920x2160 screens, not a single 4K monitor. HDMI 2.0 with a 600MHz pixelclock requires no extra hardware to support 3840x2160 @60Hz.

Also the announced prices of many IPS/VA 50"+ 4K60 screens are well under $1000. Why buy a buggy Dell monitor for $3000-4000 with split screen 4K rather than nice TV with full native 4K60 support, with a lot of other features, for 1/4 or less the cost? All you gotta do is wait 2-3 months.

Displayport isn't the problem. AMD supported 60hz eons ago.

The monitors themselves just can't do 4K@60hz yet. Only 2x30hz or 2x2K.

The reason you get the Dell over the cheap questionable alternatives is the warranty plus it's rated at 1000:1 contrast.

While I haven't tried Crysis 3 specifically(don't own it, don't even really consider it a game, just an engine test) other Cryengine 3 games like Mechwarrior Online have never presented this problem for me, and I've never seen any reports of this issue from an actual user, just in one review that was using very early beta MST drivers that are over 7 months old at this point.

This idea that there are games that look horrible in MST mode is false. I've played dozens of games on my MST monitor and I have never seen such a thing. The only issue I've experienced was the occasional game starting in the wrong resolution and only displaying on half the screen, but since Nvidia fixed their drives to display non-4k resolutions in the center of the screen even with MST enabled, this is no longer a problem, and in any case, it just meant you had to fix the resolution setting before playing.

Only problem, will there be any HDMI 2.0 GPU's in the next 2-3 months?

only new cards rumored are the GTX790 & Titan Black. Other than that it sounds like a long wait till fall for 2.0 HDMI GPU's.......
 
for those who own this Dell, do you have your PC connects to some other monitors as well? Some1 said MST doesn't support 2560x1600. So say you are using 650 GTX Ti boost. Can you connect the display port to the above Dell, and the DVI to a 2nd 2560x1600 monitor? And perhaps the HDMI to a 19x10 3rd monitor?

I agree with Sancus here - I've had this monitor since it went on pre-order on Amazon, and I've never seen the two screens update at different times, or anything related to that. All applications see this as a single giant surface, I can't see how only half the screen would update.

And if we use HDMI for audio, oh boy. The only HDMI 2.0 processor slated for anytime soon is the Emotiva XMC-1 and that's a healthy $2,000 just to process HDMI 2.0 :eek:, doesn't even have an amp.
 
I thought the R9 290x supported HDMI 2.0?

R9 290x has a 600MHz pixel clock, so it should be capable of HDMI 2.0 but we don't know if it can do 4K60 with current BIOS through HDMI. I don't think anyone has tried with an HDMI 2.0 TV yet.

AMD has very strongly hinted that these cards will have a BIOS update (if even needed) since they "overbuild" the included HDMI controller (when compared to the HDMI 1.4 spec)..I bought mine (and will be buying 2 more this month) fully believing they will support HDMI 2.0, even though I don't have an immediate need for it..
 
I own a Seiki blu ray player, very poor, well below average. Seiki brand is aka wal-mart brand. go to avsforum and read about them. They are not a brand name you want to have.

My blu-ray player dies before the warranty, and have to replace it under warranty. Service for the warranty is very, very poor.
 
This week a Dell VP contacted me directly to let me know that they would be sending me a brand new Dell 4K display, which I was told was specifically inspected for defects, for me to keep at no charge.

are you saying you get a free $2.7K monitor?

Here's an interesting question: If we don't buy directly from Dell, do we still get that 0 dead pixel guarantee? I don't think it really matter, consider the bull shit that Psychor has to go thru--they were arguing that it's not a dead pixel, but a grey pixel

You'd think they would considering the cost of the display and it being their flagship but considering the level of defects with the panels I can see why they don't. ;)

As you know Dell ended up sending me a free 32" 4K for my trouble. It was a nice gesture and Dell earned some points in my book for it. That being said the new display wasn't much better than any of the prior displays which is more or less what I expected. I've come to the conclusion that a lot of the issues with this display are MST related which unfortunately is mandatory if you want to run the display at 60 HZ. Messing with these displays for weeks I've also come to the conclusion the issues are not just Dells - GPU drivers (and possible GPU firmware believe it or not - see the Nvidia forum thread on 4K displays) and Windows itself play a role in adding to the headaches.

While I'm all for cutting edge I suggest avoiding MST displays, at least for now, unless you plan to stick with 30 Hz.

Nice. I personally have bought from them a few times and did one return of a full order because I decided I didn't want to keep the product... RMA service and refund was prompt. I also had a question about the warranty on one item I had bought and they were great on the phone, and though the rep didn't know the answer she had a follow-up email sent to me on the issue. In short, I'd buy from them without hesitation if I could afford that monitor right about now.... :).

And at this pt., I couldn't help but wonder what is the bottom $ of this LCD? It starts w/ $3499, then it drop to $2900, and now $2300. $2300 is highly affordable.

Can any1 tell me What REALLY is Dell's Premium Panel Guarantee then? Do we need to be lawyer to understand this split hair policy? Because on their web site, it says:

Premium Panel Guarantee provides a replacement monitor if one bright defective pixel is found on the screen during the Limited Hardware Warranty period.

Anyhoo, Psychor, assuming in the next 6 to 9 mth. Nvidia will have a stable driver, and if you were running win 7 Pro, how much difference do you think it will make?

As you can see my post at nvidia forum, I have a few problems of my own, eversince I install the Mar. 2013 driver, then the Jan. 2014 driver, then back to the Nov. 2013 driver, now the Oct. 2013 driver. And I don't have your fancy monitor.

MY current problem are:

1) the driver falsely detect my main screen as HP Mobile display

2) Boot up does NOT show on my main display (my 30"), rather at my 60" LED TV. It is somehow thinking the 60" is my main until win 7 properly boot up. After properly boot up, Win 7 task bar moves from my 60" back to my 30"

3) Screen Cap crash my Foto Canvas software on occasion

4) driver totally miss the existence of my main screen, I have to go DETECT to get it back

I can't really say. I would be using the monitor right now, instead of staring at it in a box, if MST mode wasn't such a buggy POS. The problem is between the OS, GPU, GPU firmware, DP cable and Dell firmware who the heck knows who really is to blame for the MST issues. If anyone is going to buy this display I suggest you first search on the official Dell forum.

Happy, see my reply above. It's card to say who really is to blame for the MST issues. If the issue is one that Nvidia can fix and actually does then I think that changes things. However, if you like to run games at max settings you're going to need something better than Tri GTX 780 Ti Classified which is what I'm currently running - at least for BF4.

I'm currently back to using my HP ZR30W and my UP3214Q is in a box. I'm thinking of picking up the Asus 27" GSYNC monitor when it comes out. Might try putting three side by side in portrait mode. We'll see.

After reading most of this thread, those problem are virtually EXACT as mine. And I DO NOT have a Dell UP3214Q yet. Just HP ZR30W x 2, 1 x 60" Sharp LED.

SO the problem is display port 1.2

It's not windows 7 or 8, (surprise), and I don't think it's nvidia neither, as 1 guy said his problem starts as soon as he switch to DP 1.2 to ge6t 60Hz, and he's using an ATI video card

I am having half screen problems on the UP2414Q as well, turning the monitor off then on again and or a reboot usually fixes the issue. I am using an AMD W5000 firepro card on windows 8.1, and a case has been filed with AMD. The problem started to happen when I switched from displayport 1.1 to 1.2 (in order to get 60hz).

Now, assuming it's display port 1.2 using the process of elimination, can this be fixed in the future? As I don't see how. Once a monitor c/w DP 1.2, obviously you can't upgrade it. And no other ports will work. So does that mean once you bought it, you are stuck, or does it mean Nvidia can come up w/ a newer ver. of driver to accommodate this DP 1.2 problem?
