And the Fugliest Custom 290X Award goes to...

that is pretty rough looking. It better cool the hell out of that card.

The color pallate is a bit Off on the pic, its actually beige...

Yay! Finally something that matches my Noctua Fans!

Time to replace my Twin Titans!

not.

Beige? WTF Really?!

Gold is Best, polished of coarse!

I want bling baby!

damn -- looks like crap.

The fans look rather anemic too (too thin) If someone were to give it to me, of course I'd use it to mine with but I wouldn't spend 500 dollars on that (at least not my own money)

Is it actually painted on? I have a sandblaster at my disposal so I could easily remove the color and make a nice unique color and finish. Otherwise I don't think the card looks ugly.

If it happened to cool like a boss I'd throw it in my rig but nothing about it looks any better than other non-ref solutions.

I was waiting to see what they were going to do.... If the PCB was black, it would have worked better...

As long as it's in stock, near msrp, and cools well I couldn't care less what it looks like...tired of waiting :(

Yeah, black PCB would have improved it so much. No windows in my rig so doesn't really matter to me, I'm just surprised a company would willingly release such a hideous card.

People actually care about how graphics cards look? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised considering all of the color matching going on.

Might as well add a girly squeal when you finish your color matching computer case. >_>;

Or you could try not being condescending and understand that atheistics are part of being an enthusiast. If I'm spending several hundred dollars on a part it sure as hell better look like something that costs several hundred dollars. Why would I want a system with nearly 2k worth of parts in it to look like a fucking fisher price toy? Looks is one of the reasons I do water cooling. I like how a system looks with super clean, colored, tubing and great looking blocks on the CPU and GPU.

It's not going to look like a Fisher Price toy if:
1. You're not staring inside of something that you're supposed to be using.
2. You buy a case without a window, which would look more mature anyway.

As an addendum:
3. It's hilarious that you mention Fisher Price toys when you realize that these color matched cases with lots of lights and tubes and crap looks more like toys than anything else?

Sorry, I'm sure there's a better way to bring out my appreciation of this worth than comparing fairly plain and functional box to a Fisher Price toy while comparing your colorful, matched computer with a window to something that looks "less cheap/like a toy". There might be a way to make me appreciate the need for aesthetics, but that's certainly not it.

Edit: And I'm not really trying to be condescending, sorry. It's just slightly amusing to me.

Take a look at my parts and tell me what looks like a toy. The beautiful case with clean lines and nothing at all flashy on it? The red tubing with no bright LEDs? The great looking black motherboard with hints of red to accent the black? The XSPC res that matches my front panel? The Vengeance LP RAM that has fairly clean lines (for RAM at least)? My system looks nothing like a toy. I hate garish, flashy things. I'm a minimalist. I want my computer to look like a high end piece of technology, not an ugly plastic box. I have pride in my system and how it looks. I give it to my brother to work on because he has a better eye for routing then I do and he will spend hours if he needs to routing tubing and cables to make them look super clean.

Hmmm, wouldn't be so bad with a black pcb; the blue just looks terrible. Then again, I don't remember the last time I even glanced at my existing GPU with aesthetic considerations in mind...

Well considering all I can see is text in your signature, it's hard for me to argue against this. A bunch of text is definitely not childish. Darn, you win!

How exactly does a metal box without a window look like a toy (as compared to something with a window looking in)? Also kind of confused as to how you think something with cables running around everywhere (messy or not) looks any more like a toy than something that's clean. You can have whatever preference for how your tool looks. That's really none of my business. As I said I just found it amusing.

I mean I can sort of understand why people deck their cars out (though that amuses me, too), but computers always baffle me. Half the time you're going to be the only one staring at it, and aside from the few minutes of fame you will get on some forums, no one cares. I can also guarantee you that it would like like a high end piece of technology regardless of whether you tucked those wires in or not (putting aside fan functionality concerns). Likely moreso if you did not. I don't even remember the last time I glanced inside of my case. It just sits there... quietly (with my absolutely terrible-looking Noctua fans! Oh the horror!) doing its job.

Anyway, this is gonna get derailed at this rate, I just kind of meant that as an amusing side comment either way. I meant no real offense.

I dunno, kind of retro, but not that bad

reminds me of some old chaintech stuff

You can look up the parts on Newegg and see what they look like. I'm not done with my build yet so no point in posting it in any show off your build topics.

I find most cases to be really ugly and pretty much every "gaming" case to look like a cheap plastic toy. I've been through a lot of cases in the last few years trying to find something I really like. As for the cable thing: You can't see most of my cables and with a minimal amount of tubing it doesn't really detract from anything. I don't use 90 degree fittings, y fittings, or really anything flashy. It is a really simple and clean loop. I'm actually not really a fan of loops with hoses and fittings everywhere.

I don't care if anyone sees my computer or not. I buy it for me to look at and enjoy. I'm the one that has to live with it day in and day out so I want something that I like the look of. For me it's simply about having something I like. I don't want an expensive system that looks like every other system out there or like it belongs in a toy store or office. I spend a considerable amount of my spare money on my system so it's something I want to take pride in.

PS: Love Noctua fans. If it wouldn't cost over $100 I would use all Noctua fans when my loop is done. They may be ugly as all hell but I won't see them anyway, they'd be covered by radiators.

Well they did cost me over 100$. I'm using a Fractal Design R4 case (black), myself. I also unplugged the cord that normally powers the front LED on it, so it hardly has any light coming out of it. It's pretty minimalist, and I really didn't have to do any work to make it so. Anyway have fun with that build. I'll continue to ignore my system. Next time I do a graphics card upgrade (not gonna be a long time with 780 SLI though...), I'll also make sure to put the ugliest graphics card I can find inside of it.

Heck, I'll do two ugly cards that don't match! It'll be great.

Amount of people waiting for HIS cards: Zero.

btw, IceQ 280x is the best cooler according to this:

I suppose HIS is sacrificing aesthetics for performance. Of all people I would think [H] users would appreciate that the most.

How so? Being an enthusiast isn't just "performance at all costs". It's about being enthusiastic about something and showing passion for it in your own way. If that is by creating ugly as sin systems with the sole purpose being performance that is as valid as someone buying matching parts that fit with a specific theme. Anyway I highly doubt HIS is doing anything of the sort. HIS isn't the first name that comes to mind when you think of highly overclockable cards.

Agreed. Both performance and aesthetics matter to me, although i've modded my case to have a window on the side. I like having a neat case with clean cable management and matching color schemes throughout. That HIS card just doesn't do it for me.

So far the coolest looking 290 AIB design i've seen has been the Asus DC II - although a large part of that is because it matches the asus ROG color scheme (with red stickers of course).

Aesthetics don't matter to everyone, but it does matter to quite a few folks.

all they need to do is make it black and not that ugly gold color.

However really, who gives a shit how it looks, it stays inside my case. I was never one to show the inside of the case anyways. I want cheap and performance and aesthetics comes after if its inside of my PC case.

Monitor, keyboard, mouse or anything that gets seen I want to be good looking since I have to look at it everyday and its in my living room

They could have done the exact same heatsink & fan design, but used black or silver instead.

Resell value on those cards would suck just because of aesthetics.

Yeah it's a poor colour but it's also probably an engineering sample so the final colour on the shroud would likely be different.

Sheesh, what happened to this site?
I guess it finally did turn into oftForum.

Give me a break dude. A lot of people care about aesthetics. Do you water cool? Do you realize how much time and effort people go through, when water cooling, for proper cable management, matching color schemes, etc? Stop acting like your opinion is the only valid one. Personally I have my desktop sitting on my actual...desk.....and I do like keeping it neat and clean in terms of dust, cable management, and other things. I also like for it to look nice aesthetically.

If you don't give a shit about aesthetics, great. That's your opinion. Not everyone shares your opinion, so you go right ahead and buy the HIS card.

Mine isn't on my desk, or even in plain view (window is facing the wall). I still keep my setup looking super clean, and just overall good aesthetically. I even put some effort into my mining rigs getting the cables managed and having them look decent in that regard.

Plus, part of being [H] is making your rig look as bad ass as possible. ;)
