NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Has anyone found those Silverstone PP05-E cables online for sale?

http://silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=438&area=en

-----
Edit: found them at amazon But they're "temporarily out of stock". I wonder how temporary? I have very little interest in taking apart my M1 after I put it together the first time in order to put tidier cables in

Anyone squeezed anything out of the Silverstone rep on here about the new SFX PSU? I remember someone mentioned it.

Yeah, Amazon has them listed for $25 with an ETA of January for stock. FrozenCPU has them in-stock now for $29..

FrozenCPU also has Silverstone's new thin SATA CP11 cables in-stock now too (Amazon has a listing, but not availability or pricing).

Also, Newegg just got in MSI's new GTX 760 mini GPU, but no gaming ITX mobo yet.

Thank you for contacting SilverStone,

We are working really hard to release our new SFX power supply as soon as possible unfortunately I can’t give you an exact date.

That's good news I suppose. Hopefully that means the ITX mobo will be out soon so I can get a motherboard that will accommodate my apogee 2 I will be ordering.

OverRated, I don't want to insult you or anything like that but considering you have the above problem and didn't plan the hardware correctly, you shouldn't blame Necere for having made an error like you stated.

He had multiple prototypes to work out the issues and so far I can say this is one of the best engineered cases I've used. And I've used every kind of case and maybe half the well-known brands out there in the past 20 years. Lian Li's cases (considered high-end) are child's play when compared to the M1, because they don't even test-build their cases thoroughly. The Lian Li PC-V35x, as an example, are full of stupid errors you immediately spot when assembling a system according to the specs. I could write a book on the V352...

It's standard practice you don't over tighten screws to the point you can hear something.
The problem you describe I haven't come across, everything screwed in like it was made by a reputable company.

Me too. We put Necere and wahaha for a month on the Lian Li fabric and their cases would get #1 almost inmediately (regarding NOT being full of the dumbest mistakes. I had the V350... oh yeah baby, talk about not even trying to put any sort of powerful hardware in there). If I were Lian Li I'd hire them, at least as advisors from time to time reviewing "to come" models and the like.

all I'm missing is Ncase of course, video card (waiting on a good deal), PSU. Once the case arrives though, it'll be very tempting to just get whatever else needed to get the thing running.

I received my silver and black today in VA. Best surprise delivery ever.

I'm going to move my build over into the black one tonight.

Thanks! Hope people keep hounding them on this. January - March timeframe is acceptable *IF* they actually can get it to resellers during that time. If it's not available for purchase until summer, people are gonna be pissed at having to buy both the 450 and 550W PSUs, myself included.

Need EU stock! Need those cables before putting it all together. I asked the European customer service, told me it would be matter of weeks. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Awesome, just tossed an order on Amazon to save on shipping. Thanks!

Now just need the case....

Got my M1, I am near Pittsburgh, PA

I was #25 shipment & on the early shipment list

It is SOO light, but I don't have time to play with it today :(

Not all of them the NF-F12 is a good fan but the Corsair SP fans out perform them now.

And I also dislike the NF-F12, seriously noisy fan for the Pressure it generates. Returned mine fairly promptly. The standard Gentle Typhoons are a significantly quieter proposition, but lacks the PWM option (doesnt really need it) If needed you could however go with a 3K high rpm GT, have PWM control (modded), and still have a quieter fan than the F12, while generating a significantly higher airflow. (and its in black)

But I am quite happy with the older noctua fans. Their S12 and P12 are nice, and even the 92x25mm fan. Its a fairly quiet fan for its size. Its always the distinction between marketing strategies vs developments that actually contribute to performance.

I'm on Dispatch #26 and was supposed to be on early mailing list #1. It's a shame I was put on a later shipment dispatch considering I was 2nd in the list of ordering. Hope it gets here before the new year. Was really wanting it as a Christmas preset for myself. ;)

You can always do a PWM fan mod :) .

Can't understand how such damage happens. It's been thrown or pushed against some pointed object. That object shouldn't be in any areas where packages are moved.

Looks like it came in contact with a corner of a harder box.

Ask someone who's worked in a UPS sorting facility about the Friday night pile, or the times they are literally throwing or kicking packages across the floor. It'll make you scared to ship anything without armor and shock-proofing for 50 g's. Shameful behaviors happen in the shipping industry.

Well, the total package weights like 5 lbs, so maybe they just flung it around by the packing strap. But then again, it's 5 lbs so you'd have to throw it pretty hard for it to puncture a hole in the box. I was surprised by how light and thin the case is.

Its a shame ncase didn't want to put a 1/2 inch thick chunk of aluminum on the front of their case like on the SG08. My sg08, fully built, flew face first from the backseat into the Center armwrest of my friends Jeep and came out without a scratch. :D

Here's a size comparison between the Ncase M1, Silverstone Ft-03 mini, and SG08 in case anyone is interested. I did a poor job taking these photos...

Willing to bet it was more of a crush than a throw and slam. Yeah they toss em around sometimes but when you pile other heavy stuff ontop of them it makes more damage IMO. This coming from discussions from people who work in the business. Whatever the reason its sad to see. :(

Yeah, I really like their P12 fans. Move a good amount of air quietly. Not cheap but if you want quality they are worth it.

Here's a size comparison of the popular Noctua horizontal coolers.

NH L9i (installed), NH-C14, NH-C12P SE14, and a NH-L12.

I'm really dreading installing the NH-C14 or my H220. All the empty space above the CPU is going to vanish.

Dispatch 25 in IL here. Mine arrived today 12/13. Dented though =(.

Ugh, that sucks. But that's what we ordered extra for. Drop w360 an email at info(at)ncases(dot)com.

Regarding the SSD stacking bracket issue: it's unfortunate that discovering this issue resulted in some damage. I'm not exactly sure at this point why the fix (thicker brackets) doesn't seem to have worked. It's not clear whether 2mm isn't enough, or they didn't actually use 2mm after all, or the countersunk holes are too deep. But it any case, I'm sorry it slipped through. I did every bit of design and testing, so it falls on me. I'm only one person though, and I'm certainly not infallible. Bugs are inevitable.

Anyway, I came up with a dead simple solution to the problem that doesn't require anything extra: just flip the bracket over so the non-countersunk side is facing out. That should allow enough clearance for the bracket to be attached tightly to the drives without having the screws run into eachother.

edit: Btw, Overrated - send us an email and we'll see about getting you some replacement screws.

Still waiting on my case to be delivered. I'm really excited to do this build though.

I am having issues deciding on the power supply for the build though...

It would be handy if I actually knew what all the screws are for...
Going to try to figure out the fan filters now.

EDIT: crap, can't mount fan filters without the fans. So where are those Demciflex filters ? :D

Hmm I thought the grommets at the 3rd row are for 2.5" and the ones on the 4th rows are for 3.5", at least that's what I'm using.

Edit: went to check my PC-Q18 manual and it seems that the bigger grommets are for 2.5"/3.5" while the smaller ones are for 3.5". Confusing.

Shouldn't you be able to report this to USPS and get damages since it is insured? Or would it be wahaha360 who reports it since he mailed the package? Then the money can be used to exchange the replacement front.

This brings up the question about how the exchanges will work. Wahaha360 can you explain how you are planning to handle this? For example are you expecting returns of the damaged parts, or are you just going to send out replacements? Who reports the problem with USPS, and who claims the insurance money for damages? Since we paid for the shipments, but w360 did the shipping this is unclear to me and probably others. It looks like there is a time period claims are allowed and they require original packaging and photos and possible delivery to the nearest post office for inspection for the claim.

That's a good idea! Is it still safe to test the screws for fitment w/bracket in the intended orientation, as long as it's done gently? And just wondering, if the damage is occurring because the side screws are hitting the bottom screws.. why are the bottom SSD screws even being used? For rubber isolation washers.. for an SSD?? I'm terribly confused

Also, it might be nice if Lian-Li made these screws (or even the whole screw kit) available for purchase like their other parts.. especially if the M1 kit only comes with enough screws to mount one SSD to a double SSD bracket (that doesn't make any sense to me either, lol).

You could, but there's no particular reason to favor that orientation. It's not like the screws stick out much at all.

Well, there are 2.5" mechanical drives. The other reason is to make it easier to mount the drive.

Well look into making extra screws available.

Could anyone link me the list of compatible air coolers? I can't seem to find the list anywhere =\

I'm going to be running an Asrock Z87E-ITX. Well, link me unless someone can tell me off hand which best AIR cooler I can get. I'll move into liquid down the road. Even though I did grab a solid 7950 copper waterblock for $30 when Danger Den went out of business :(

I would only favor it, cause it was intended as such.. probably OCD more than anything, lol.

Yeah, that did occur to me after I had posted (platter drives). Still don't really understand the point of isolation if there's already space between 2 drives (I can see isolation from the brackets helping). And I kinda get it being easier to mount, but some temporary folded paper would probably work just as well for that.

So anyway, if I'm running 2 SSDs, I can safely skip the isolation screws/washers between drives and tighten the side screws normally through the mounting plate using countersunk side as originally intended, correct?

Well look into making extra screws available.

Thanks! If nothing else, tiny, not readily available parts always tend to bounce off the table and into oblivion.. I'm still looking for a watch band pin from a few weeks ago :D

Thanks Necere i sent you a PM.

Seeing it was only the front dented wouldn't a replacement front panel be easier and faster to send out to him?

I think you're confused. The rubber soft-mounts are only for mounting the drives to the case. There's no way to use them 'between' the drives.

I think he meant putting washers on the screws so they don't counter sink into the wholes on the bracket but doing this would make them stick out, Best way is to take 1m of the 4 screws.

I would think so. W360 is handling that, though.

I think he may not understand the issue. He doesn't have the hardware in front of him, and it's a little difficult to describe just using words.

Best way is to take 1m of the 4 screws.
Best way is just to do what i suggested (flip the bracket), which works fine.
