Going after a Wii U

I think he meant Mario Tennis or Mario Golf or something like that. They already release Wii Sports Club, the successor to Wii Sports, so that would be a terrible and confusing announcement.

Yar, I was referring to the Mario Sports series (ie: tennis, golf, soccer, etc). As much as I'd like to see new footage of an already confirmed game (Mario Kart, SSB, etc), I'd love to see a previously unannounced game get some spotlight.

If its the new Zelda, I will be a happy panda!

I hope it's the new Zelda. From what I hear it's going to be cell shaded with a high resolution art style but it will have fully havoked physics and animations. Anyways it should definitely be interesting whatever it is.

I know you were referring to Mario Sports but I doubt that this type of game wouldn't include the motion controller the Wii U has.

I played Mario Golf on N64 and it was fun using the controller. But if I would need to play it again on the Wii U using motion control... no thanks.

Either ways... I wouldn't buy it tho now :(

I doubt they would switch to waggle controls for a Wii U version of those games.

Hey... so I decided on a Wii U after all the Next-gen drama which is surprising to be honest. I gave up on the first Wii after 6 months of it collecting dust because there were no good games other than Paper Mario and Zelda Twilight Princess. The Wii U launched the same way with mediocre games, and never considered it until now. I was dead-set on getting a PS4 but this has probably been the most mediocre next-gen launch in terms of the quality of games since I can remember. So, I decided after doing some research that the Wii U is the perfect buy for myself this holiday. Couple reasons:

1. I love Mario games, and I think my wife and I would love playing them together.
2. I finally get to play all the Wii games I missed out on from last-gen like Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Metroid Prime, Paper Mario, Donkey Country Returns and others...
3. TVii looks really great and is more intriguing than the Xbox One's TV features.
4. I love the idea of being able to play my games in bed with my wife watching Netflix on the TV.
5. The Wii U games are actually looking pretty good right now. Although not a lot of hardcore games, there is still plenty of a variety to keep me entertained. I play most of my games on the PC anyway, so the Wii U should be a good fit for casual gaming.

I actually have been scouring Craigslist for a Wii U Deluxe bundle for a good price, but I think I found something better. Guy seems really cool, and says he kept it very clean and is in "Like New" condition.
Includes the white 8GB model (kind of don't like that b/c wanted black but for this deal is worth it), 2 wiimote plus controllers and 2 nun-chucks along with Super Mario 3D World, HDMI cord, and comes with the original box for $150. The guy sent me a picture of the gamepad and it looks brand new to me. No scratches or anything.

Good deal? I'm picking it up tomorrow so i'll report back after I get it as to how I made out.

Sounds like a great deal. Only downfall is the 8 gigs, but you can add an external hard drive.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I have a old WD MyBook 250gb I don't use, and i was just going to plug it into the back of the Wii U.

Oh, and can we get a new Castlevania game on this thing? lol. That'd be awesome. I know there are the classics on the online store, but I want a new Castlevania that has the spirit of the old games... not the ones since Symphony of the Night (the Metroidvania games).

I think the only thing you will be missing is the gamepad charge station.
I dont think it came with the white model.

Holy shit everyone... I really lucked out. It honestly seems too good to be true. Some kid from California (mid 20s) bought this thing only to play while on a internship and was selling it so he didn't have to pack it for his flight back. Kid was really cool and sincere. Even sent me multiple pictures and videos of the things in action and of the gamepad so it had no scratches. I picked it up and it literally looks brand new. Not a single scratch on the gamepad. Everything looks new. As does the 2 wii remotes (with Motion Plus built-in) with 2 nunchucks that he included. He also gave me his copy of Super Mario 3D World. All that for $150 in the original packaging minus the wrappers. This is the best deal i've ever scored off Craigslist.

Btw, can anyone tell me why the hell the 3 available Wii U bundles are all $300 at retail? The 32GB Limited Edition Zelda Deluxe bundle, the 32GB Luigi and Mario Deluxe bundle, and the 8GB Skylanders basic bundle are all $300. Doesn't make any sense. The basic should be at least $50 less new.

Regardless, I am really excited I got this at this price and condition and i'm gonna fire it up when I get home (still at work).

That Skylanders bundle comes with extra hardware (namely the Skylanders portal and a couple of Skylanders toys). I still wouldn't choose it over a deluxe bundle, but to each their own.

That is a heck of a deal! I spent $60 bucks just on the new Mario and haven't even had much time to play it.

Holy cow man, you made off like a bandit!
3D World is going to blow your mind.

World 3 is when it "gets real".

Yeah man that is a great deal! Congrats. All of the Wii U's were sold out of my local target tonight; something I haven't ever seen since it was released. People must eat up all those bundles!

Wow great find!

I'm going to pick Super Mario 3D World this weekend at TRU since I got a 15$ rebate for a 50$+ purchase that we got from buying christmas gifts last week :)

So the card will be applied for my gift :p

So I got home after work last night and hooked everything up and man... I am so happy with this deal. $150 for the system, Super Mario 3D World, 2 Wii motion plus remotes plus nunchucks... Everything works flawlessly. Best Craigslist deal i've ever come across. Everything looks brand new.

Setup for the Wii U took quite a while and a little disappointed that there is no LAN hookup on the back, and only works wirelessly, but other than that it's pretty nice. Only messed around with it for a little last night... made a Mii, downloaded Netflix, and played through the first stage of Super Mario 3D World. The fact that you can do everything on the Gamepad without the need for the TV is great. The TV functionality is great and i'm looking forward to getting some virtual console games. So far I am very pleased... now just have to find the time somewhere. :p

The Wii LAN adapter works with WiiU so if you prefer wired connection, get one.

I'm sure a lot of people would buy a Wii U if they knew what the hell it was and that it existed! It might be the worst named/ marketed product in the history of videogames.

By the way I recommend downloading all games direct to the console so you can browse your library from the tablet. Awesome! You can fit Mario U and Luigi, Pikmin, Windwaker, and Mario 3D World on a 32 gig system without an issue. The disc thing is so over.

Wish I could find a good Craigslist deal, I would be all over it right now

I got a 1 TB drive attached to mine and it works great. I still prefer the physical discs, though.

What do you mean? I have the one with 8GB of onboard storage. I hooked up my 250gb Mybook to it. Can I load games onto it and still browse from the gamepad? I am just trying to understand by what you mean in saying that you recommend downloading all games directly to the console? You mean don't buy disc-based media just download from the store? Or do you mean there is a way to transfer the disc-based games to the console?

There is no installation of disc software currently. You have to buy and download from the store to store software on your HDD.

Well, looks like the big VGX announcement was Cranky Kong playable in Tropical Freeze. He's given a very Scrooge Mcduck (if that was his name) cane mechanic. The game itself looks gorgeous, though. Still, I was hoping for something more along the lines of a new game announcement.

http://kotaku.com/nintendos-appearance-on-the-vgx-was-awkward-1478774490

I've been looking for the news myself but couldn't find it and when I read that I was like, "This can't be Nintendo's BIG announcement..." I guess I was wrong. How underwhelming.

Nintendo introduced a new character, why all the drama? Oh you guys thought it was a game or something? [Insert Trollface] You all haven't been paying a lot of attention this last year I can see.

At least Nintendo has functional USB external storage from day one. Buy whatever external storage you want and it just works.

Hard to believe Sony and MS couldn't put in that feature before launch. Its not like its an extremely complicated piece of software.

Reggie was all like...What more do you want!?!?! You have Cranky Kong, and it's FANTASTIC!!!

http://youtu.be/fpVqVr7gO0c?t=31s

LOL then they ask Reggie what he thinks of the PS4 and XBOX1 and he threatens to assault them for asking him a legit question. Oh boy Nintendo you didn't? Yep they shouldn't have even showed up, they look like fools for sure even more so today. I Love them!

Yea that cracked me up, Reggie was absolutely bragging big time and it's a fucking old monkey with a cane as a playable character in a game that should have came out 8 months ago.

The PS4 and Xbox One question was perfectly fine and it was almost like he was insulted that someone would ask him.

It's not the hosts fault his system is a failure.

From Nintendoland to Kranky Kong. Damn what a ride! :D

Please, take your nintendo hate BACK to your thread.

This is my thread about why I am getting a WiiU, not a thread you can jack and be all like, hey, get a PS4!!!!!

So i was playing SM3DWorld last night and i was playing world/level 3-1 and halfway through the level i turned to my wife who was watching Netflix on the tv (i was playing on tbe gamepad), and i said to her "I can't even remember the last time a game me happy to play it like this." It like brought about the joy i felt when playing super mario brothers on the NES for the first time only more than that. And that level was the first time i truly appreciated the HD treatment Mario got with this game. It truly is beautiful with little loading time, no lag at all, and just looks beautiful. The attention to detail is wonderful, like i reached a area surrounded my torches and i blew on the gamepad's microphone and the flames flickered. Just brought a big smile to my face.

It was a magical moment. I feel like this has rekindled my love for Nintendo and Mario in a way i didnt even have as a kid. I've never had a game have such a impact on me since probably playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time.

Definitely get a Wii U man. I'm so stoked over that amazing Craigslist deal i still can't believe it. I really want to try New Super Mario Bros U also, and i know the bundle you want has it but try to get SM3DWorld. You will not regret it. It's the only game i have so far but i can't wait to start expanding my library.

Also, last night was the first time the red light started blinking on the gamepad which was frustrating b/c i barely had been using it it seems.

My suggestion would be to get the Nyko uboost. I'm going to get one ASAP. I heard it doubles the life of the gamepad. Or I'm going to go to play-asia.com and order the official Nintendo Wii U larger battery for the gamepad. Have to go through play asia though. They dont sell the battery here in the United States yet which is confusing and BS.

Good luck OP. You'll be happy with the Wii U for sure.

Already putting my cart together. NSMBU and NSLBU WiiU bundle, getting SM3DWorld and the mario/luigi wii-motes as well. Also going to grab the new mario party game too. (When its available)

Same boat for me. I bought my WiiU a few weeks ago for a Christmas present for my family. Over the weekend I spent another $200 or so on even more games/accessories lol
