None of them work...

ouch, almost two weeks later and they still have Day Ones

 I guess I didn't need to preorder

If they have them at the Best Buy in my area, they just got them back in stock. Xbox one and PS4 have been out of stock every time I have looked at all the stores in my area. (BB, Walmart and Target.) Buffalo, NY and surrounding area.

XBONE's are at multiple locations where i'm at. PS4's are however no where to be seen.

I show none available anywhere.

They told me they would not get any more until Dec 23rd.

These flickers of availability may be pre-orders that aren't being picked up.

Walked into a BB, they still had a huge pile of Day One XBones. For a preholiday release there are a lot left in stock, reminds me a bit on the whole COD Ghost "shipped $1 billion dollars worth to retailer."

What is the difference between the day one and standard other than the box and the writing on the controller?

Might be due to lower supply because of GDDR5.

Likely the case. SNE (indirectly AMD), AMD and NVDA are all sourcing heaps of GDDR5 right now, especially NVDA who are stock-piling for Feb's Maxwell cards of which several of the cards will have twice the amount of VRAM as current models. Glad I got my PS4 on day 1.

xbox shows as available for store pick up for me, not sure if it is legit :)

This is correct. They're dumping the pre-orders that people haven't picked up. That's why you're seeing Day One editions coming back in.

We got word from an employee two weeks ago that they were doing that at our local Best Buy, and we were able to snag one for a friend.

I figured they would have a hard date as a company to do this, and have done it all at once.

Maybe they're shifting stock from places that aren't turning as much business.
