HiFiMan HE-400 Headphones $299 - Amazon

I've never seen these for anything but $399? Fuck it ordered. I've come so close so many times to buying these, no way am I passing $100 off. Thanks a bunch. Also I'm sure my GF Is going to approve of me buying myself gifts before Xmas. :x

Fuck this is really tempting... But I already have a Grado RS1i...

I have plenty of phones but this price caught my eye. There were 7 left after I ordered. They will be gone by morning.;)

I got the last ones at $299, prime FS AND best of all, no tax! I was going to wait for razordog's sale but guaranteed 2day FS and definitely no tax with only one left, I had to

:) THANKS OP, I feel much better now after not getting in on the hd650s the other day (that stung tbh, because I remember black friday 2012 I missed out on the 650s back then too and have been waiting since...)

Anyone know of any upcoming hd650 deals?

How to these compare to the Senn HD 650's + AMP?

From what I understand the HE-400 will have much better bass. But it tapers off the high end a bit.

The HD650's have superior mids, and does highs very well.

The HD650 is probably a little more articulate and accurate, and likely has a bigger soundstage. The HE-400 would likely be a more fun sounding headphone.

Both of these headphones are very well respected. Especially at their price ranges.

I ordered the HD650 on the earlier deal. But I actually had my eye on the HE-400/500.

I will probably hold out until a good deal on the 500 comes out.

:( Too bad I missed out on these... Hopefully as others have said the 500 will go on sale.. :)

i'm just going by what i've read and not personal experience with the HE400's. they're supposed to be faster, have a larger sound stage, and bass that extends deeper than the HD650's. they're also much less forgiving which can possibly translate into a less enjoyable listening experience.

HE400 measurements @ innerfidelity

(also a bitchin' decay graph of the 650's at goldenears. can't find a review from them on the HE400's)

I see they're early with their Black Friday prices, good to see.

I'll have to hold off on buying these, since I'm already wearing them on my head right this moment. ;)

Nice, now I need a decent Dac at home. I have a solid amp, which will probably get me by. Thanks for the info guys.

The velour ear pieces are pretty much a MUST. Great deal since they are like 16$ shipped most places. Also back on amazon for those with credits and such.

I owned these before and say they are a nice entry level into planar headphones. The sound signature on the he-400 is really interesting. The mids are recessed, the top end treble is really sparkly, and the bass is absolutely fantastic.

The visual I get when listening to them is like being in a dark smokey room and getting hit by bright florescent lasers. It's almost astonishing how the treble sticks out like that. I personally had to EQ them down a bit but this is a GREAT deal.

Thanks OP and contributors. Bought the HE-400s from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and I'm returning them for the $299 with velour pads deal from HeadAmp.com!

What amps are you guys driving these with?

For my dt770s I use this, but I know nothing about amps.

Side note: Recently I bought a few old school receiver,s pioneer, sansui, etc.... amazing stuff for the price ( and some infinity speakers). I guess there is no such thing as vintage headphones that would go well with the receivers. But man, I should have done this a very long time ago.

I take it to get the most out of these, I might need to upgrade? Any good guides or youtube videos?

HE-400 are really easy to drive, efficiency is like 92DB I think? Any amp is going to provide more than enough power.

Anyways I got these things today and I've been messing around with them all day and I'm really happy with them. The bass sets these things apart from other headphones I've had. It's not like DT770Pros or some other closed headphones, this is tons of bass coming from a pair of open headphones. And its just clean and smooth all the way down. I was messing with equalizer a bit and you can go nuts the bass and it just sounds good. Lots of fun, lol.

I missed out on Velour pads but whatever, I put order in for $16 today.

I have a pair of Denon AH-D5000 that I absolutely love. (why did Denon discontinue them?) I'm interested in hearing what this planar thing is all about, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if I'd expect much difference compared to what I have now.

In kind of the same boat (I have D2000's). From what I've read it would be a side-grade for me if anything. I'd still love to hear them though.

They will definitely sound different, whether you prefer that different sound...I can't answer. I ordered a pair of the HD650's earlier and still ordered a set of these at this price just to see what I personally prefer. Headphones in this price range are almost all great (exc beats and a couple other name>acoustics brands), what you'll enjoy more really comes down to taste, and the best way to find out is to try them out.

Is this open or closed headphone? Also, how does this compare to stax? I know stax is multiple times as expensive, but having planar floor speakers I don't think I ever want to go back to cone speakers for cans.

Actually noticed the cheapest stax is about the same price so. Hmmm..

Open.
Can't help with the rest, only placed my order for them yesterday.

Well, the cheapest Stax setup is ~$800 if you don't have one of their amps already, right?
