Moto X already getting KitKat

What kills me about this isn't beating out the N4 OTA.

Verizon getting it first only a month after KitKat's release. Just further pisses me off after seeing the bullshit first hand with Galaxy Nexus and the claims of "our stringent testing" and other crap. GNex still doesn't even have 4.3 on Verizon yet Moto X has KitKat after a fucking month.

Verizon you can go fuck yourself.
 
Yeah, this makes no sense whatsoever; a non-Nexus Verizon subsidized phone is getting the latest Android update before the N4 gets it and also before any other carrier variant gets it. Same thing with the Verizon GS4 getting the 4.3 update before any other variant and somehow didn't have a lot of the issues that stopped them from rolling the 4.3 update out to the other carriers. :confused:

But I'm pretty sure Verizon EOL'd the Gnex a long time ago, so I wouldn't expect any updates for that anymore regardless, even though the GSM Gnex got 4.3 soon after its release.
 
Yea....something fishy going on behind scenes that they are not telling us. The build date on the X kit Kat build is November 12 which means it took a week for Verizon to approve it. That's unheard of.
 
BTW....there is proof that moto had access to kit Kat before it was pushed to AOSP. Look at screenies of the leaked ATT build on XDA - was compiled in September.
 
My decision to jump from iOS to the Nexus 4 hinged largely on the fact that updates would be quickly available without carrier involvement. In the world of smartphones a couple months is still relatively quick (and getting better all the time), HOWEVER, getting beat out by some carriers kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I can accept Google helping out Moto, which they own, but would still expect that the Nexus devices would be at the head of the line. I can also accept Google changing their business model in regards to their Nexus line, but lets call it what it is. I dont have the Nexus 4 page saved off of the Play store, but the current Nexus 5 states 'With Nexus 5, you’re always the first to get the latest Android updates from Google. It’s like being at the front of the line at every movie premiere.' I recall reading something similar for the Nexus 4....

On a side note, I do want to see one of those wood backs on a moto X, what is the hold up?

This isn't the first time an old Nexus phone didn't get updates first. Google is into selling people the idea of Nexus phones, not actually supporting it.

Google has never actually said they will support old phones or promised updates. All they say is that its upto the carrier, and every time they promise to do something about the updates problem, but never really have done anything.
 
This is awesome. My Moto X (unbranded XT-1053) got the OTA 4.4 KitKat update today (and some other features). Still no sign for my N4 but they're supposedly rolling it out slowly. It is super funny having a Nexus 4 and Moto X right now.

Yup XT1053 KK was rolled out today. ATT should be coming soon
 
What's with all the whining about the N4? Factory images are available which means you can flash it without wiping data by removing the '-w' from the flash-all.bat file. Plus, they do rolling updates otherwise if break the internet with 81% world marketshare.

81% of the phones out there are not N4's. That's ANDROID marketshare
 
N4 OTA is actually rolling out. I already got it yesterday.

Though really without the new Google Launcher you aren't going to get a whole new experience as an end user.

But getting GEL isn't exactly hard either. ;) I've been running it on my CM10.2 SGS3 since the N5 image was released and all the APK's pulled.

GEL is awesome.
 
Well strictly from a OTA updates point of view and that isn't all too exciting. Actually my phone looks slightly disjointed now since I use Power Toggles which still has the old blue color scheme :p

I'd have flashed and all that on my N4 as well if I wasn't switching to the N5 at the moment (currently behind schedule due to going 2 for 2 on dead pixels :eek: The second unit actually has one right on the "O" in Google on the search bar so it's always noticeable :p)
 
I read something somewhere -- maybe it was Tom's? -- that Verizon is planning on bringing KitKat to a variety of older model Motorola phones soon. The weird thing about it is that I thought some of them had TI SoCs, which I thought was one of the reasons Google wasn't going to update the Galaxy Nexus or whatever.

Both this year's and last year's Droid phones will be upgraded to KK. All of them run on Qualcomm SoC's
 
Why does KitKat on MotoX not have the dialer with business search and caller id? Is google making it Nexus exclusive?

Unless you have a locked bootloader, in which case you need to unlock it first before you can flash which will wipe your device.
