NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Video Card Review @ [H]

Can we maybe expect a bunch of [butthurt] Titan owners to try to pump and dump 'em on fleaBay here shortly?
 
lol so many people want to insult the Titan owners. I am sure most of them could not care less since they have already had a top end card for up to 9 months now.
 
I'm sure there will be a few on eBay from those that like to switch up their toys, but doesn't seem like it judging from various threads where actual Titan owners post. I also don't understand why non-Titan owners project so much rage onto others.

I might sell mine on ebay and get the 780 TI, but I bought this when it came out and have enjoyed gaming on it for the past 9 months or so.

Honestly most of the rage comes from a deep down jealousy. It is the same thing when people who mod their car might be faster then a stock Ferrari and calling the Ferrari owner stupid.

Also with regards to the 290X there is no way I am sticking that thing in my Mini-ITX build.

Yep my TITANs have rocked it. Got a pair of 290X sitting here now about to test before install into my system.
 
Once again an outstanding review from [H]OCP and so it happens that Nvidia too once again has managed to get the crowning glory back to its camp. One has to wonder though if this is as far as the GK110 can be pushed! To Nvidia's credit, they really have done a nice job with the 780 Ti and somewhat recuperated from damage done by 290 twins. It seems, 780 ti is another fine example of Nvidia's ability to putt together a purpose-built video card. In this case, an increment to the memory frequency with a higher and more consistent boost curve of the core clock seem to have done the trick, pushing the Ti just past the Titan at least in games. Throw that missing SMX into the mix and it easily surpasses the GTX 780. But the fact that it's still an tweaked/overclocked Titan shows in shader heavy benchmarks like Crysis 3 (Apples-to-Apples)!
 
Wow, what a great time to be an enthusiast!
Great display choices, 1080 1200 1440 1600 4k, and throw eyefinity/surround in.
Great gpus, 770 780 780ti titan 290 290x and all sorts of stable and non stuttering multi gpus tech.
Great(ish) Intel stuff.

I can't wait for another great [H] review with multi display / 4k resolutions.

Honestly I have no idea what the best update for me will be. 780ti could have been an easy choice, but the price just makes that choice very difficult. Bundle is a drag since I want to go sli or even tri sli. And 3gb for 3x1440p vs AMD 4gb adds insult to injury.

Not an easy time to be a Nvidia fanboai.

I'll wait for things to settle down a bit I guess. Mantle, drivers, prices, coolers, etc.
 
I would like to see Folding@Home benchmarks worked into the reviews if its possible.
 
Underwhelmed in general (not with the review, that's great as always :p).

While the performance on these cards is amazing, AMD is clearly just squeezing the last drops out of old technology, I was hoping for something new from them.

The 780ti is clearly just a "response" card, and falls short on price.

Also I don't understand the low vram. We're entering a world where 3GB will be entry level real soon, because of the boosted RAM on the new consoles (COD:Ghosts which, love or hate the series, already has 4GB Vram as it's recommended spec, and BF4 is 3GB recommended).
For the price nvidia is asking for the 780ti, I'd have expected a little more, especially in that context.

I'm looking to upgrade, and was waiting to see how the 290x and 780ti panned out, but I'm basically still in holding pattern now. I think it'll come down now to waiting to seeing how mantle and g-sync play out. Maybe even waiting for Maxwell.

I may just get a PS4 and skip upgrading my PC for a while :p

Well, while we're at it, for putting only 3GB of ram on a newly released $700 flagship video card, fuck nVidia.

I'm not going to bend over and give Jen Hsun $700 for a video card that has 1GB less video memory than a $400 AMD card, but you can go right ahead and be my guest.

Considering the temps/fan noise Tom's Hardware was getting with the R9 290 with an Arctic Accelero Xtreme III cooler, those buying the GTX780Ti at $700 will probably want an 80 gallon drum of the stuff:

wile it seems to fix things
it still looks like shit
also 780 has other things like hardware h.264 encoding
and if you sell the games... the 780Ti is cheaper then a 290x + an after market heatsink
and the 290x still looks like shit
then there is the issue ZERO decent vendors that sell AMD cards
lest EVGA rma's cards for almost any thing friend of mine couldnt get XFX to do an rma about year a go

so better heat sink out of the box
better support
better looking heat sink
and its cheaper include the pack in games ether if you where going to get them any way or if you sell them
why is the 780Ti a bad card again?

So let me get this straight, your biggest bitches about the 290x is that you dont like how it looks.... fucking amazing. Actually, all of your complaints are personal opinions and as such are worth exactly 0.

Yeah, that's what I meant, nvidia were pretty much already at the end of the road until Maxwell, the TI only exists to try and have the last word until then.

I was more disappointed with AMD though, I was hoping their r8/9 stuff would be the first cards of a new generation, rather than the old ones renamed again, and one just pushed to the limit.

Neither side is blowing me away right now, but I have a feeling gsync is going to wind up keeping me in the green camp.

Personally I'm just thinking with my wallet, and waiting for another opportunity for me to seize a 780 at 300€, since I lost the last one. :(

Regarding gsync, I don't think it's gonna really catch up in the desktop market, BUT it's gonna make a HUGE difference in the laptop market, since there are still many people buying gaming laptops, and having smoothness even at 30fps or lower would benefit laptops a lot.

from the AMA with AMD on tomshardware there sticking GCN for the next for ever
no wonder there pushing mantle so hard

the question are they stuck with GCN because of mantle or are they pushing mantle because there stuck with GCN
this means no major changes to the architecture only wider/more shaders

meanwhile NV is moving to a new architecture with Maxwell
 
thats the other thing
stuff like G-sync and Shadow play (which will have twitch.tv support soon) and Shield add a lot of value to the 780 line for some people
again off setting the slightly higher price and or slightly lower frame rates

They're pushing Mantle because of the huge advantage they have - they're the GPU in both next generation consoles. There is the Xbox One (by Microsoft Corporation) and the Sony PlayStation 4 - they release next week.

Let's not count AMD out because of an AMA with Tom's Hardware with a few marketing flunkies. And remember - even if you hate AMD, you want AMD to be around and doing well (like they are now) because it keeps your NVIDIA cards pricing low and performance high. The 290 at $400 is the best thing to happen to enthusiasts in a long time...whether you're team red, team green, or team who cares.

I'm afraid you missed my point. I referenced the Tom's article showing the temps and noise as an EXAMPLE of what a custom cooled R9 290(X) might be capable of. I didn't say the answer to the current reference R9 290(X) was to buy THAT exact cooler.

Frankly, I think anyone but water-cooling enthusiasts should hold off on buying anything and wait until end of November/early December for the [H] to test the Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, etc. custom cooled R9 290(X) cards and see what the results are for those cards.
 
as i said there are no US vendors worth buying from the make sell AMD hardware
is part of why i havent touched an AMD/ATi card since the Built by ATi cards stoped
XFX has burned more then a few friends of mine
Gigabyte ASUS and MSI arnt any better

its worth more to me to have good support if some thing goes wrong

What the reviewers as missing which I would like to see pointed out is the benefit of the Titan over the 780 ti in SURROUND GAMING.

in 1600p surround I see 3GB usage easily in games like Metro light, even older games like tf2...

I think [H] is working on that alongside with overclocked Ti review. Just be patient.

After titans debut and pricing it shouldn't come as a surprise. We are talking about nvidia after all :p

Now if we could only unlock a titan >.< OR use quad sli with a 780. What was more surprising to me is them supporting quad sli after saying it was a "titan" only thing.

Still trying to find the sense in that one :p
 
AMD -- Thank you for shaking things up and getting us lower prices.

NVIDIA -- Thank you for still including a DAC. (Still got high end CRTs I want high end cards for. Appreciate very much you still making that possible. And some others are still in the same boat as me.)

Waiting (forver?) for 1ghz Zotac AMP! or Galaxy version with custom coolers. 780 ti's should come with the holiday bundle.
 
Just installed a 780Ti in my main rig. Wow. Runs heavily modded EnB Skyrim like a dream, on max settings in 1080p. About 46fps outdoors. Feels so much faster than the GTX 670 DirectCu2 ASUS card I was just using, which felt very sluggish as it averaged 12-30fps.

I know everyone is saying they are overpriced, but it was only $100 more than the average selling 290x in Canada. $699 is not the best bang for the buck mind you, but whatever, I'm very happy with it.
