Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

PIT , I know how you feel.. coming from someone here who played bf3 a ton and now this mess of a game they put out. Now I don't even log in to try to play. I just go right to the forums to read what the current state of the game is.. Looks to be the same 1 week later.

This game has made me run back to playing tf2.. I hate to admit it.. Not asking for my cash back. Is it too much to ask for a game that works?

I'm a casual gamer... I'm okay with being bad and I'm happy with the occasional round that I do really well. So normally I won't be the one to complain about a weapon or vehicle being overpowered, or something or other to defend why my K/D ratio sucks. BUT I will bitch when a game is unplayable for me after spending $50 on it :(

Shanghai is still my favorite map. This map is on par with Karkand and Gibraltar as far as I'm concerned.

Man I feel like complaining about BF4 compared to the clusterfuck mess that COD : Ghosts is almost makes me feel bad I did complain about BF4 and that I should buy premium as punishment.

I have to say that the only mode I like to play are pistol only servers. I don't have to deal with the silly vehicle balancing or the crappy weapon damage.

Sadly, the few servers that do it are not on all the time.

It is funny how TF2 and it's ancient, cartoon graphics has better, more entertaining game play than BF4 and most other "realistic" war games. Stop trying to make things "realistic" and make a game with great gameplay! I don't really care that much if I can blow stuff up. It doesn't really seem to change maps much.

And its all relative to people's taste. Personally, I find TF2 boring as hell with its static maps, low player count per map, and the best way to customize your character is a hat.

It's all personal taste.;)

Yeah, one of my mates has played it for 4387hrs though I'm not a fan.
It's nothing to do with what is "realistic".

Oh Im with you Capt, See I sank a ton of hours in bf3. in tf2 I played spy for 1400hr over the last 7 yrs. In bf3 I gunned in the heli for a bit less than that. But the way bf4 turned out made me gravitate away from this current mess of a game back too something I had not played in 2 yrs.. Its sad when a old franchise would make you choose it over a new one...

Im starting to lock at my back log of games now .. Something I would not do in bf3 due to having so much fun... Thanks EA... the good side too it.. I can now play SP games at least..

For real guys - is anyone else experiencing ridiculous server lag?? Every single server I join I'm teleporting. I'm starting to wonder if it's just me.

Agreed. I thought TF2 was/is terrible. When I think "dumbed down" gaming and "mass appeal" games, TF2 tops my list. And BF2/3/4 is far from realistic.

I'm having to force myself to play BF4, I can't believe I'm already bored, I guess I shouldn't be, as this should have been more DLC content for BF3.

Ok... with all the fixes going around, on average I manage to get at least 5 rounds in before a disconnect or crash. Play is getting a lot more fun now.

The M416 is a beast. Muzzle Brake, Angled Foregrip, red dot sight. Holy shit. Check out the accuracy plots at symthic for this weapon and that configuration. Its a god damn laser cannon up close and at range. I think the only gun better than it is the Ace23 which I am trying to unlock now. The only thing that beats it up close are shotguns and the AEK-971, but neither of those have any range.

You want proof? 52 kills, 15 deaths, 3.47 K/D. I believe this was my best round ever in BFBC2, BF3, or BF4, even though over half my team was shitty and we lost.

They just put up another server side update that has improved stability even more. Its nice to see DICE actually responding directly to consumers and fixing problems at the same time. Infinity Ward could learn a thing or a fucking million from such customer service.

The server side of things has been getting better. But they still need to put out either a large client patch or a couple of smaller client patches.

Rather them work on server shit first.

whats the point in fixing the client side, if you have no server to play. :D

I'm just saying this isn't going as quickly as advertised.

They've already put out like 5 server updates and have announced that the client update is coming "soon". The game has only been out a week lol. If anything they're doing a good job so far considering their track record with previous buggy releases. They still should have had better/earlier/more beta testing, no doubt, but they're not exactly screwing the pooch on this release either.

Hey CaptNumbNutz, Just added you to my friends list. Rattle and a few other guys from [H] have been tearing it up lately. We work awesome as a group, good meds and map awareness, usually get a win when we all together on the same team.

I've heard 416 is very good. But honestly the ACE 23 is better. I also really enjoy the AEK-971, it's so deadly in close-medium range combat with it's higher rate of fire (900), I was doing pretty good with long range also, but it isn't as good as the ACE 23. Overall ACE 23 is the best gun.

I use Muzzle Brake and Angled Grip on all my guns, I leave them in full auto mode, but rapid fire burst them all... with network slider all the way to the left (2) small bursts to the upper body and the enemy usually drops, I often get 3 kills with just a single clip.

Few rounds from last night using the ACE 23 w/ Muzzle Brake and Angled Grip...

28-4

I'll be curious to see your results. I had 3 cores "parked" on my AMD cpu. Big results.
Did some benching last night...

Went into the BIOS turned HT back on and then unparked my cores, joined an empty server to test and it's a night and day difference when compared to how the game was running with HT on and cores parked on my i7-2600k, it ran very smooth, No major spikes on perfoverlay.drawgraph 1 and fps wasn't capped when running on low settings or looking up at the sky(200fps vs parked cores@100fps), game ran smooth. Here's a clip that shows how my i7-2600k runs with HT on and having cores parked... (HT off is = to HT on w/cores unparked)

http://youtu.be/yMGmY6qQWQY?&hd=1

@0:00-1:00 bonus footage of my dog and turtle :D

@3:00 HT on gameplay, notice huge yellow spikes, when I shoot I get spikes.

@3:50 CPU/GPU usage results, notice the GPU usage has lots of dips, CPU usage is low due to being spread out across all 8 threads.

@7:30 HT off gameplay, notice how there's hardly any spikes even when shooting. Overall 5-10 more FPS on average and before when looking at the sky max fps was fluctuating like crazy from 80-100fps with very large spikes on the graph, now it's @ 200 and the absolutely no spikes at all with HT off.

@8:40 CPU/GPU usage results. notice how the GPU usage pegged right up at 100% no dips at all, CPU usage is higher, but more level.

So with HT on and cores unparked I went into a server stood in 3 specific spots and create the same explosions from shooting a couple gas tanks. I recorded min/max/avg fps with fraps and then restarted my PC, disabled HT and did the same tests, absolutely no change in fps.

Since my CPU isn't 100% prime stable on stress tests running at 4.9ghz w. HT on I went ahead and left HT off since it's prime stable at 4.9ghz. If I was to run stable with HT on I'd hafta run at 4.7/4.8ghz depending on room temp and to be honest this game LOVES cpu speed so the higher the OC, the more the FPS.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Yep, and after five server updates, the issues are still persisting. Actually, the crescendo of crash complaints hit after four server updates had already been issued. Meaning, after four updates, people had not noticed significant changes to the experience.

Had 3 client-side crashes last night in ~4 hours, which is 2 more than I had for the first 21 hours I played. Apparently one of the patches somewhere broke me.

Anyway, I'm beginning to get super frustrated with the team balancing -- or lack thereof. I prefer to play 24p domination, though I've started to dabble in 32p Conquest also. With domination, I've had 2 games that were 1-0 wins, but it seems like every other game is 200 points one way or the other. I'm not sure how many matches I played last night (probably 12-15), but I can tell you I only won three of them.

My KDR went from 1.14 to 1.09 because most of the losses were by 250+ tickets in a 300 ticket match. Now, I'm completely average and probably run and gun too much because I'm impatient and I'm all about getting to objectives, but in a well-balanced game I tend to be at a KDR of 1.5 or so, maybe 2.0 on a good team. Last night, people kept quitting, so at one point we had 4 on my team versus 10 on the other, and it didn't rebalance. Within ~5 minutes I had 3 kills to 12 deaths or something. I quit and went to a CQ server.

Same thing on the CQ server. After 3-4 400 ticket games, the opposing team won all of them by AT LEAST 275 points. I was #1 in scoring on my team, and I hadn't ever played CQ until Sunday afternoon. Why do I keep getting put on sucky teams?

TLDR: Can someone explain to me why any sort of balance seems to be impossible? Would it be so hard to implement some sort of team balancing system based on KDR or SPM or something so that you don't have team stacked with a 5 man squad, plus a couple other high rank, very useful individuals? Put the squad on one team and then the highest KDR/SPM individuals on the other so at least it has a remote chance at balance...

The "problem" is that you can get a squad of 5 people who can join the game on the same team and squad through Battlelog. That's a designed feature, not a balance issue. They're probably voice chatting and cooperating with each other, and probably in a clan of some kind to boot.

Cooperative squad and team efforts are designed to yield good results in this game.

Honestly, I think it has to do with one or two squads that work together on the opposing team. One good squad can turn a match by a lot of points. I'd say easily 100+ with just one squad. If your team is full of people who don't know how to click Q on the damn points and/or follow orders, which unfortunately the majority of players on this game right now are, you will probably lose the game. I've noticed that when me and my buddies play we almost always win. The only time it comes close is when the enemy team also has a squad doing the same thing we're doing.

I'm not saying this is acceptible because when I play solo I experience the exact same shit you are describing. I'm fairly decent most games but I alone cannot carry a team and I've noticed that when I join pubs, nobody issues orders or follows mine. It's rare that I get people who listen but once you get a squad going and you get that flow going it turns the tide of a game a lot. That's what I've noticed anyway.

I understand that, but BF4 keeps reminding me why I've given up playing this game. My win ratio is 11%. I know I'm not great, but I'm playing on 64 man servers, so I have a hard time believing that I'm the sole reason for my teams losses. The term objective seems a foreign concept to practically every game I've joined. The worst I've seen so far is the other team captured every objective and had us pinned to our spawn location in under 3 minutes in a round on Locker.

There's never any cover fire. God forbid someone understands what flanking is. Half the team is assault, yet no med pacs and no revives (the other half seems to be snipers who can't aim and don't spot nor laser designate). On most maps, I'm the sole person who's actually trying to bring down the choppers. I know teamwork exists, because it always seems to be on the other team, but there really needs to be team balance between rounds so my team isn't losing by 600+ game after game.

Team play is key, when you joint a server populated with mostly TEAMS on one side, you're gonna get destroyed

I'm not arguing the allowable squad, I understand that part and why it exists and why they won't be split. What I don't understand is the other half of team being just as good or better as the 4-5 guys with the same clan tag. Ideally:

Team 1
Squad -- usually obvious if they share a clan tag.

Team 2
Highest KDR/SPM outside of squad (equal to # of players in the squad, assume 5).

Use KDR/SPM to balance the remaining 14 players accordingly.

It can't be that difficult, and would greatly reduce the number of 200 (or 250) to 0 finishes we're seeing. Instead, these guys are getting paired together and make the games totally lopsided.

My win ratio is 11%.

Oh god, I'm sorry. I thought my high 30s/low 40s was bad =(

My win ratio is about 55% and I'm nothing special at this game. I think you're just joining really bad or imbalanced servers for some reason.

Bro, sounds like you need to find a good squad that actually works together with each kit, good squad leader & leverages VOIP. It's a ball. The guys that camp and sit in tanks without taking flags typically only interested in KDR which only leads to game losses.

Oh wait, you mean like people with rage tears about no longer having the infinite ammo automagic regen to sit back and have snipe wars across the map?

I'm happy with what they did with the vehicles this time around. Tanks/APCs/choppers all have to play a defensive role and make sure they get supported by other team members to be effective as opposed to the rape-fest cowboy culture from BF3. I love how anything hitting the choppers will disrupt it enough to cause them problems.

Is it still possible to dominate a round? Yes, I went 17-4 and my gunner went like 32-2 in the attack chopper in one round last night on Golmud Railway but that was largely based on having joint support from mobile AA to keep the enemy jets and choppers at bay and prevent them from pursuing our retreats, along with tanks/APCs softening up enemy armor and infantry support.

Only bad things I've seen so far are the MLRS seems too accurate/deadly and those destroyer boats don't have enough vulnerability to balance their firepower I guess killing the crew might be the easiest way instead of trying to destroy the boat itself?

What does the angled grip do? I know in game there are "stat bars", but it does not always show what you will loose when swapping an attachment for another. It just shows what you will gain.

I tend to use the ergo grip myself, though that is mainly because it is the first to unlock.

I don't like using the cheap Chinese optics one the ACE 23 myself (and looks like the other Galils) so I am hoping to get some battle backs with western stuff.

Also using the first shotgun, which is really deadly at close range.

For pistols I like the P226 and 1911 the best so far. Very close to getting the CZ. I find the FN 5-7 to be a bit too weak even though it is very accurate and has a high capacity. Fun to use, just hard to put 5-6 rounds into an enemy before they turn around and kill you. :p

Don't like how the 1911 only has a 7 round mag opposed to an 8 though. It is still very effective damage wise with a suppressor to. Suppressor + laser or light + muzzle break is a good combo. Accurate and quiet or loud and quick. Though it has the worst accuracy of any pistol in game. :p

Question - Do the field upgrades (Defensive, Offensive, etc) apply to all squad members or just yourself?

they should apply to your entire squad seeing as you earn them by supporting your squad.
