Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

I thought if you quit server you lose stats? If not does it give you points for all the ribbons and medals you get?

I always thought that if you quit a server and rejoin the same one again before the match reports as being completed, you overwrite your stats for that match. I didn't think it reported in realtime, only when the match finishes.

My review after another 5 hours of multiplayer... Which only had a few crashes (only took them 3 days)... Still bored. It is so close to bf3 I feel cheated. If you ever were bored during bf3... prepare to quit sooner rather than later. I will play an hour, have zero enjoyment, and close it down.

Just glad I didn't drop $400 on a gfx card for a game I am too bored of to play.

I'm with you there. After getting in some solid hours over the weekend I can see myself losing interest by the second week like I did with BF3. I was also planning to do a nice gfx card upgrade but now I'm not so sure. None of my other regularly played games come close to using up my GTX 580 @ 2560x1600.

.......snip

A couple of general tips I've found that might be helpful:

I could not get Gadget 1 (On Foot) to bind, no matter what I tried. If you bind Underslung 1 to the same key as Gadget 1, it works.

.......endsip

GL!

Thanks! I will have to try this, had the same issue. The only way I was able to get to gadget 1 was via mouse wheel, which I hate and does not work for all types of gadgets. Was looking around, but didnt see a fix or many reports of this problem in my searches.

I have personally stopped at least 5 friends from buying this festering turd of a game. I am so fed up with the bs i am on a quest... and I am usually pretty laid back.

I feel the opposite - I was bored as hell with BF3 and the gameplay. Got BF4 because some old friends were playing it... feels completely different than BF3. Looks are similar but polished. I personally think BF4 plays like BC2 and I played the shit out of BC2.

Damn good buy for me.

Need advise...I have a 6 core 1090T and am struggling to maintain 60 fps. Even if DICE improved performance and takes care of the CPU spikes I am not sure that I will be able to sustain 60 frames. I did with BF3 with a mixture of high and medium settings. Now with everything on low I am dipping under 60.

I am entertaining asking for a refund. What would you recommend?

1. Keep the game and hope DICE improves performance.
2. Refund Premium
3. Refund the whole game and see what happens later?

Please advise. Thanks.

I've only played few hours here and there... but overall I like it. Much better than what early public beta was.
With my current rig (see sig) and using some modified ULTRA settings I get constant 60fps gameplay on 1080p.
It feels a little differnent than BF3 more like other users say BC2.
My only gripe is with finding good rush 32-64-men servers...

If that doesn't work, if you can, try installing Windows 8 on a separate HDD/partition.

I'm with you - I love it. The only map in 3 that felt like to me like it had any sort of that BF "flow" was Grand Bazaar. There are 4-5 in BF4 that I feel are fantastic, especially that one with the old Russian tank hulls. Paracell Storm and the resort map are awesome as well.

Anyone have any suggestions for upgrading/unlocking things a bit faster?

I've played for maybe 10-15 hours and haven't unlocked any decent guns (assault / engineer mostly) that I feel are competitive. This is my main gripe with the BF games. It seems you have to invest a huge amount of time it to get the good gear and make the game really fun.

Play on servers that only run the map "Operation Locker" in 48 or 64 players. It's basically like metro from BF3, so it's all infantry. Locker actually allows better flanking opportunities so it's not always a choke point spam fest the entire match (sometimes it still ends up this way though).

I unlocked all of the recon guns in a few hours on a TDM flood zone server; so TDM and Domination games will get you infantry unlocks easier. Normal conquest on the larger maps is fine for the vehicle unlocks.

I couldn't agree with you more! Well said.

Curious if this is a glitch or intended, but using the russian Anti air IGLA launcher you have to maintain lock through the sights to hit. So if you pop a rocket off after a lock, immediately drop it and reload then relock on and launch both of your missiles will hit the target as the pilot has generally already used their flares on the first round.

I've managed to completely shut down transport choppers with engineers in them with this thing, not sure if working as intended.

Thats whats its supposed to do. It also tells you to hold when you have the lock.

I think it saves them, but I am not sure. I do know that kills and unlocks for weapons/vehicles save.

If someone knows for sure if ribbons ect. save that would be nice to know.

Someone may have already mentioned this, but I'm in a hurry and too lazy to do a quick search. For those of you on (Windows 7) older i7 cpus or such you might want to check out the video posted below. It seems to fix the stuttering in the game.

I'm not saying anything against you or this game, but it wouldn't be a Battlefield without crazy Windows tweaks :D

Anyone remember going through and killing everything in Windows XP just to squeeze every single little ounce of performance out of Battlefield 2.

I like the part where he explains what a CPU is...

Seriously though I never needed to do this on W7.

LOL - Delete all the shader folders after every driver update/change! Then defrag your HDD...

Just nabbed a Samsung 840 Pro 256gb. Just in time for some BF4-Black Friday-sale-DICE patch-madness! See you guys on the battlefield in a few weeks. :D

^^^ +1 And many thanks! I spent a few hours last night trying to get BF4 playable. Studder was horrible. Tried all the graphics settings. Lowered to sqwat and still it studdered like heck. Unparked the cores using the app at the link dinky and it's butter smooth now. Even using the 64bit launcher. :D

How would the performance be on a q9550, 8gb ram, and gtx 650 ti 2gb ? q9550 @ 3.8ghz. My native screen resolution is 1680x1050

Just got to wait another payday to pick up the game. I suspect there will be bugs for a while.

I tried every fix I could find in this thread and online to fix the stutter, from core parking, removing all extra hardware from my computer, reinstalling/rolling back drivers, 32 bit executable, etc and nothing made any difference. I even upgraded my video card from a 480 to a 780 and the exact same stutter was present - just with a higher base framerate.

Finally broke down and installed the Windows 8.1 trial and the game is perfectly smooth now. Had the best round in terms of points and kills the whole time I've played BF4. Mind, I nearly had an aneurism trying to get Windows 8 to actually do anything other than play Battlefield (I spent more time trying to find how to turn off enhance mouse precision than INSTALLING Win8).

apparently it doesn't save shit.
Two times I leveled up during a game and it crashed, once during the game and once when the game was over and it was showing the ribbons and scores for everything.

screw jumping on a grenade. but the next time a teammate gets shot out of the chopper i'm jumping out after him with paddles in hand :D

Sounds like one of Hannibal's plans again. You on the jazz?

I don't know if this has been previously mentioned but has anyone given this tool a try? http://battlefield.realmware.co.uk/bf4-settings-editor/

I mainly want to try it for the drawfps to always be up.
Their BF3 settings editor was almost a mandatory install for other fixes to the game until it finally got patched up.

That program is the simplest way to fix joystick controls if you want any hope of using a joystick other than an xbox gamepad. I know I will get owned by the KB/M purists in the jets, but I just find it so damn un-intuitive flying a plane with KB/M since I grew up on sims. Choppers don't require quite the precision, so I do just fine there with a joystick.

Go into the key bindings section, go into each section (e.g. on foot, in vehicle, in helicopter, in jet, etc.) and hit the magic button that clears all bindings. If you don't clear the joystick bindings for "on foot" then your guy will start doing weird things the second you get out of a vehicle such as spinning in circles, firing gun constantly, unable to sprint, etc.

I like the quote from the DICE rep that confirms that performance gains from windows 8 aren't just a fluke. They are VERY REAL.

We are investigating this at DICE. Some of the graphic lag is related to how the OS handles the CPU cores. The main reason the game runs better in Win 8 is due to better handling of the cores.
We will get back to you when we have investigated this.

Keyword: "Some". The problem now is the fact that BF4 has so many other lag issues. Fixing this one with Core Unparking may only fix one of the multitude of problems.

The fixes I have put in place so far have gotten me 90% playability. I think everything else is server side.

so after getting some good game time in, only a few crashes, nothing bad, until today

in a short period of one hour, I hit level 10, 5 times. Yes, 5 times. I have rarely crashed, up until today, would play, doing well, hit 10, game crash, would join new game, do well, hit 10, server crashed, new game, hit 10, crash, start again, hit 10, crash, start again, hit 10, crash.

I walked away for a bit, cause I was frustrated.

Came back, have not had a problem again. ;)

Honest opinion, I like BF4 MORE than BF3, but I wish they could figure out all the crashes already.

Symthic's BF4 stats and comparison charts are starting to get filled out pretty well. It looks like there's still a holy trinity of great guns; the AEK-971, the M416, and the newcomer, the ACE 23. The M16A4 is still burst fire which kills its appeal in CQB, IMO.

So I re-enabled hyperthreading and left my cores "unparked" with the 64 bit exe.....smooooooooth.

Exactly my experience. I'm running High settings with 4xmsaa and high post, vsync enabled. I might try kicking it up to ultra tonight to see if I can hold 60fps solid. :D

We went pretty [H]ard tonight, 1st,2nd,3rd all night. GG's Rattle, we make a good squad, nice meds!

gg dude, made me play hard to try and stay on top haha, been rather dormant in FPS lately

hoping turning off network smoothing solves the infuriating hit detection problems i'm having. usually have sub-40 ping.

Tried playing MP today. Played one round and the server crashed right when it ended, so no points. Hopefully they figure this out. You would have thought BF3 would have sorted most of this.

I disabled core parking on my i2500k and for the first time I was able to play 5 full 25 min rounds without crashing, all on same server. The most I'd ever play was one full round and it would hang on me in the second, happened every other round it seemed, or sooner. I also rolled my Nvidia drivers back to 331.40 yesterday but I did crash once even after the rollback. So between the server patches DICE is releasing and doing those two things...I'm pretty happy now
