BF4 just doesn't feel right

I am a big fan of BF3. It was simple and easy to play and get a hang of. Been playing the BF series since BF1942. I have been "trying" to play BF4 for the last couple of days. Sure, the graphics look pretty but man, it just doesn't feel right. Game seems so unbalanced for me. I am having a very hard time trying to adjust and get my game going but I just can't get it. In BF3, I knew what to do, how to play and how to survive and have fun. I find it very frustrating playing BF4 after about 10 hours of play.

This is nothing short of constant lockups, server crashes, client crashes, rubber banding and audio issues. I know, I know... new game, give it time, blah blah.

I'm just having a hard time having fun in this game. Hopefully this will change...

Sure it isnt your system?

I see plenty of people posting about how great it is with out any issues

this is why i refuse to buy games on release day...

I think you are suffering from what another user described what you just described OP. Battlefield Fatigue. Perhaps you are just played out on the franchise. Happens to COD players. Happens to all of us at one time or another. I play WoW for almost 5 years , straight (minus maybe 4 months for downtime and work/holidays) and now I can't even consider touching the game again. I'm really burnt out on all MMO's.

Maybe a long overdue break will allow you time to mentally recalibrate and you might find BF4 more enjoyable at a later date.

I have to agree with the OP big time

Something just feels weird about this release. It looks great, the damage is remarkable. But sometimes the gameplay just feels way too arcardey too me. Players move too fast. I know, I know, there are games out like there ARMA, but IMO BF3 was a decent balance, and after 2 days I can't seem to find it. The maps are small and also just feels cluttered with vehicles and tanks after tanks after tanks. If your not in one, your pretty much screwed for the recreational player

i was around a 15.5% accuracy on BF3 in total, i was shocked to check my BF4 stats today and see that im not even at a 9% accuracy. Its just god awful and for someone who doesn't have time to play 5+ hours a day, its very frustrating

So not to be sarcastic but because BF4 is harder therefore its "god awful"? How exactly does that work?

People complain that BF3 is dumbed down and nowhere near hard enough and that everyone shouldn't have access to everything with far less gameplay required than 2 or 2142. DICE makes it harder and forces you to actually spend large amounts of time per class to unlock content.

I don't get that part of your complaint. If you spend 300+ hours in one BF game don't you want a challenge? Don't you want to actually feel like you've accomplished something when you unlock a weapon you've been waiting for?

I think BF3 had a much more arcade like feel to it since everyone pretty much unlocked most of the upper tier weapons in a much faster pace than previous BF games. Kinda took away the fun if you ask me.

Oh well , just an observation.

Which is bad. No unlocks. Let us figure out what works and what doesn't. Unlocking an Eotech 70 times is not fun nor is it rewarding. Its a gimmick in place of real gameplay. I'd like to try using all of the pistols at least once in the game, but with an unlock of 57,000 pistol kill points I doubt I will by the time BF5 is released. I'd rather try out various weapons/calibers/attachments to see what works best rather than getting 300 kills with X, then do something dumb here, then get 300 more kills with X, then do Y, and then you get your weapon.

They should have redone the hit detection and damage instead of worried about unlocks and ribbons, badges, awards or whatever. I doubt anyone even admires how pretty their virtual badges are anyways.

To each their own.

Wait... you actually like having to spend 300hours to unlock crap that should be unlocked from the start? WHY? Do you actually play for the enjoyment of the game or the unlocking of the weapons?

Seriously confused why anyone would actually like the unlock system. It's like most people are played like puppets to continue toiling away "painfully" doing stupid crap just too get that allure of the endorphin release of unlocking fake rewards and weapons that should have been there in the first place. Just look at how popular metro in bf3 is or nuketown in cod was because they were good for leveling up not because they are fun.
It's damn pathetic really.

I played bf3 for 300hrs total during the last 2 years, my acc was constantly around 20% even with minimal auto-shotty usage and lots of LMG kills ( damn that m240b felt so sweet after the bipod buff ! ) .44 magnum was always above 40% mind you

You don't have to play 5 hours a day to shoot like the "pros" do

here's a pretty good guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH7PKuW7mvA

So there is more of a level(unlock) grind in BF4 than BF3? Honestly BF3 was around the limit of what I'd want to put up with in terms of a multiplayer game not is specifically not considered a RPG (and even then I only give more leeway in this category due to industry standards).

It is. Some stuff like vehicles are not bad, essentially the same, but for stuff like pistols it is. 57,000 kill points with pistols. While I have unlocked all IFV stuff so far, I only have 12-13 kills with the starting pistol. About 1000 points.

Unless there is a pistol only server, I doubt I will unlock them all in actual gameplay. Not interested in running around with a pistol only getting butchered.

The assignments for a few of the weapons are now more tedious and have 3 sequences. Then remember, you must get kills with each weapon to unlock attachments. Some are held back via Battlepacks, which require random (or maybe there is something to it) gameplay, which are not too common.

Once you get all the regular attachments for a gun, getting X number of kills starts unlocking battlepacks for that gun as well - so you can eventually get all the attachments just by using it.

Meh, I was around 18% in BF3 and was around 15% in the beta. I haven't actually played the real game yet due to work constraints though.

I don't know if I should get BF4. I'm still on the fence. The netcode and client side hit detection is still awful it seems. I hated that about BF3. Will someone let me borrow their account for a day? I feel like my PC won't get any love if I don't get BF4.

If you're on the fence, just wait until it drops to less than $30. It's a general rehash of BF3 and you won't kick yourself for spending more than that on this game. win-win :)

I don't understand the people saying BF4 feels faster than BF3. For me, it's exactly the opposite. Movement in BF4 seems significantly slower than in BF3.

Personally, I have ~6 hours of gameplay in, and I'm still only sitting at 1 client-side crash (after alt-tabbing several times in a short span, so probably not the client's fault as it happens with other games too), and 1 server crash. Certainly nothing to complain about in that regard.

I played the game for a couple hours last night. Several servers were rubber banding like crazy and a few times, the game locked up and I had to kill the game via Task Manager. Then I was able to get into a server that was nice and stable but it was just no fun. Getting sniped from all over the place, vehicles everywhere, having to unload and entire clip into someone and not having them die but I seem to get killed by 1 bullet, getting promotion spam over and over and over, sprinting seems like a fast walk speed. It seems to take 5 minutes sprinting just to cross a street and then BAM... dead! I finally gave up in disgust and went to bed.

The servers are a mess, but so far 32 and some 48 player servers get rid of the rubberbanding

I'm not sure what we beta tested since the beta servers ran better than this final game.

I like that it doesn't have that BF3 "feel". I probably would have skipped this game if it did. I'm not sure if you played BC2, but it feels like that for me which is perfect. My accuracy and K/D ratio was way down until I got some unlocks on guns that I liked. Now I am almost where I feel pretty damn good playing.

The unlocks, I'm not even sure how they work. Seems like I get some for using weapons, some in these battle packs some for looking cute. Who knows. But I DO like it takes longer. Right now there aren't a bunch of people walking around with M60's (this gun even in game btw?) while I have a straw and some toilet paper.

How is it compared to BF2 on the PC is what I want to know? I stopped playing the BF series after that because seemed like nothing really improved (f the graphics i mean gameplay/levels)

IMO,

The maps are smaller, lots of close corridor combat, and many choke points

Maps are smaller, making for larger firefights, as when in BF2 there was a lot of 1 squad vs 1 squad for control. BF4 there will be multiple squads most of the time for control points.

The combat is more indoors than out on quite a few maps, which I do prefer.

The vehicles have a totally different feel to them. More arcade than what you would be used to. Especially flying.

Destruction totally changes the dynamic of maps. BF4 did a great job of making sure it was even more dynamic than the previous versions of BF.

You really have to try it. I loved BF2. It's my 2nd favorite of the BF series (2142 being my favorite), and BF4 is third now.

I think they made the weapons kits to complex to understand with all those attachments. And I cannot understand squads and how to use it all. BF2 was simple. PLUS nobody talks - wonder if thats broken.

Although the game looks good when you actually aim at someone it's usually so far away you just see a name (killed so and so) or die yourself.

When you fight up close it almost feels too slow. Forget about shooting from the hip in this game even up close cause it sucks.

I thought I would be glad the fish bowl maps would be gone from COD but to be honest I'd rather go back to fish bowl style maps.

Oh well. I'm going to go play now and see if I can somehow have fun.

Thats part of the reason I dislike COD, small maps and indoor fighting (the only game I liked that in was Rainbow Six the original Xbox ones), I liked BF2 for its big outdoor maps, being able to flank around instead of hitting a choke point inside a building or multiple ways around a big map guess I will pass not wasting money to see if I will like it or not thanks for the input.

YES, this is exactly how I felt. I played BF3 extensively. Playing BF4, I get insta killed over and over. Seems like one bullet does it. Meanwhile, I empty full mags into guys and...nothing. I agree with the OPs subject line so much, it just doesn't feel right.

To me, its way faster, and way more arcadey. My buddy is more of a hang back and support kind of guy, and he's doing ok. But I've always been a charge in and get a few kills before I die kind of guy. That worked great in BF3 and I had a ton of fun, but in BF4, I just immediately die every time.

I'm not giving up on the game by any means. I'll give it a few more weeks and see if I can get used to it, but I do agree that its a significant change from BF3. They have every right to change how it plays. In fact, its probably good, so the game doesn't get stale. However, I'm just not sure how I feel about it.

It does feel different to me. Graphically, it feels like a step backwards, not sure what it is.

I somewhat agree, after BF2 the BF series died for me. I tried the follow ups but they just can't hold my interest. For one, I'm really sick of the modern warfare type games and second, the game pace. It may be my imagination but it seemed like the game pace changed in a negative way starting with BF:BC2. I just didn't enjoy BC2 or BF3. I've been reading the comments but so far it looks like BF4 is more of the same with some tweaks.

Thankfully there are games like Chivalry Modern Warfare for a nice change of pace. Its no where near perfect but I'm finding it more fun.

BF2 was cleaner looking, much easier to look at and less busy mini map. There are so many little symbols in BF4 on vehicles and on players and the mini map that it's a massive cluster mess unless you spend much time to under stand it all.

BF2 people talked vs BF4 I don't hear talking for whatever reason.

You move slower in BF4.

BF2 took me away from my fave game COD for over a year. BF4 is not going to do that to me. I'm going to GHOST next week and won't be playing this I don't think.

Just my opinion since you asked.

I'm glad I didn't pick it up then =) Will pick up COD Ghosts and my PS4 a week from now =)

I really enjoy BF4 right now

Yes, I have crashed a few times, but no where near as many times as other people.

When I first fire up the game I will crash within the first 10 minutes, than start again and have no problems after that.

I think the game play is a little faster than BF3, and the physics just seem to be a lot better. Its in a middle point between BF3 and CoD, which actually makes for a little more intense action.

I never liked the BF series. Net code is horrible. Didn't matter what system I was using. Every with my current setup I get rubber banding, herky-jerky movement. It's just not fluid.

It does feel different to me. Graphically, it feels like a step backwards, not sure what it is.

Try turning off the post-AA. I believe it defaults to high on the custom graphics settings, and by shutting it off, I thought everything looked better.

I don't think you realize that you just contradicted yourself. The whole essence of what you say you like to do is exactly what the arcadey games such as COD are designed for. If that's what you like to do, then you want an arcadey game.

prefer BC2 but I never played any BF game prior to BC2

didn't get into BF3 because I didn't have a good enough PC to play it at a satisfactory level. do have a PC to play BF4, but didn't enjoy the beta enough to convince me to buy BF4

I was a tank in BC2 Normal compared to BF4's normal damage modeling

BF4 does have some nice looking maps though and there does seem to be more destruction than BF3

I see what you're saying, and it makes sense. But, regardless, I had more fun, and more success doing this in BF3. I could run in, and get some guys down before I died. Now, in BF4, I die immediately, often before I even see anyone. Its different, and its faster, and its not as much fun. Hopefully I'll just adapt to it.

Still, I agree with what you said in general, so its just confusing. And it kind of goes back to the OP's subject line, it just doesn't feel right.

I agree with the OP.
Wasn't a huge fan of bf3 as I'm an Arma player, but it was fun and easy to get a handle on. Bf4 feels totally wrong to me. Weapons feel terribly inaccurate and player movement feels and looks less fluid.
And what's with the sniper rifles? Rounds drop more then a pistol, leave a tracer visible from space, andmove at the speed of a baseball?

I only played the beta.

But while playing the beta I felt the same way you do.

The game just doesn't feel right....Higher upgrade times sucks ass as well.

I'll play other games until this is 20 bucks ( 2 or 3 months probably) and they have fixed it up a bit.

The netcode during the beta was great but this is what is happening way too much right now:
