NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti To Cost Around $650 To Rival R9 290X

Thanks to Sweclockers, we know atleast know that the GeForce GTX 780 Ti as our previous speculation would end up around the $650 range while the Geforce GTX 780 would receive a price cut. Sources close to Sweclockers say that NVIDIA will price the GeForce GTX 780 Ti around the same price range as the GeForce GTX 780 which retails at $650 and possibly lower through some retailers. But NVIDIA has plans to give the GeForce GTX 780 price cuts too so it can directly compete against the upcoming Hawaii graphic cards.
AMD has currently two products based on the Hawaii GPU planned for launch. The Radeon R9 290X ‘Hawaii XT’ would be launched this week with the Radeon R9 290 ‘Hawaii Pro’ part possibly launching this month or early next month to target the holiday season. From the current benchmarks, we have seen that the Radeon R9 290X is giving the GeForce GTX 780 a hard time and is going to be priced around the same range. But NVIDIA will not stop at just seeing their flagship cards get obliterated by the red team.

NVIDIA’s strategy is to give their GeForce GTX 780 a price cut probably after the GeForce GTX Holiday bundle expires late next month. NVIDIA will wait for the AMD Radeon R9 290 to launch and based upon its price give their GeForce GTX 780 a massive price cut to compete specifically against the Hawaii Pro card. Since both would be about the same in terms of performance, the one offering more value in the end would be deemed the winner.
The GeForce GTX 780 Ti which is faster than the GeForce GTX 780 would rival the AMD Radeon R9 290X at the $650 price range. It is yet to be seen what specifications the new card holds since most of the GPU-z shots which leaked yesterday were awfully fake. There are still some rumored specifications flying around the web but i will wait till our sources have a concrete word on them. NVIDIA is also planning a price cut for the GeForce GTX 770 which is retailing at $20 cheaper than its $399 launch price probably since the $299 R9 280X is the attraction around that price range. The price cut on the GTX 770 may not be as significant but it would sure make users re-think before selecting a AMD R9 280X graphic card.

Price wars are going to be very interesting this holiday season, especially after the rumored $549.00 price for 290X, it might force nvidia to go even lower than they planned.

$650 for the Ti you say? This means I can swap my 780 for no cost then at my local Microcenter.

Might do that then, pending 290x benchies.

780TI replacing the line of 780 and 780 masive price drop?.. Whats going on nvidia? You poop your pants?.. Thats good boy, restate your plans and business :).

LOL $650? Bad move.

If are true. Not bad at all, a new card to replace actual 780 and drop the actual 780 prices wich are the aim of the 290?.. I think isn't bad.. I was expecting a higher price due to the typical Nvidia business.. But this time nvidia are really scared..

Gotta love companies battling over the Christmas period. Bring on the competition!! Hope the 780ti is a decent bit better than the 780/titan. One thing is for certain, there will be plenty of choices for us in the next few months.

Yet all of us Nvidia users will still pay $650 for the Ti, and go home happy.

Yup thats mean lot of bundles and offers to holiday season.. I want to see what are they planning after launch, and how are they preparing the terrain for us..

Thats fkn awesome. I can't believe some of the shit I hear about vendors letting you do in the states. Not a chance you would be able to do that here.

I don't know how pricing the 780 Ti at $650 rivals the 290X at $550  ...seems like Nvidia is so hesitant to truly price down their cards and they will only do it as a last resort

This article came in right before the rumored $549.00 MSRP for the 290X, they might be willing to go lower, who knows.

Lowering the price of the regular 780 a card that actually could compete vs 290X less powerfull? Maybe but at a lower price.. That throw directly to compete vs the regular 290, and let the 780TI (if are as good and powerfull as many of us hope) to compete vs 290X but people cant right now tal about performance and price without none of the cards in the market..

It's not standard protocol (at Microcenter anyway) to let people swap their products after the first 30 days, but I've got a special case where I'll be able to exchange for the Ti even if it's after the 30 days (which after November 12th, will be more than 30 days for me since my purchase). It's a pretty sweet deal for sure.

Where are you located?

Australia. Ah nice work negotiating the deal then. But even the 30 day swap over thing for products you have used and changed your mind on is just unheard of here. Consumers here really don't demand a lot on the after sales service front I've got to say though. For a nation that prides itself on being full of " Aussie battlers" we seem to be willing to take it up the ass and hand over cash for it.

Lets not get too carried away with performance before we see confirmed numbers. The 780 might still be able to perform well against amds offerings. The 290x might be lacklustre in other ways even if it does outperform the 780 in raw performance. We will know soon enough by the sounds of it. Either way exciting times for the first time in a while for those of us who want just a little bit more for a little bit less than what's on offer at the moment.

thats why exactly i said "people cant talk right now about performance and price whithout none of the cards in the market" just are theorical thinking and just guessing what could happen due to the actual reality, GTX 770 go with 280X, GTX 780 with 290, and 780TI with 290X. thats my guess.. what i don't like it too much its the idea of have 2 Nvidia Cards (780TI and TITAN) vs 290X.. and this not only by price but for performance category thats why i guessed about throw the 780 directly to 290..

That's really a shame, especially when it just strengthens the trust people have in general retailers.

There is already enough human waste in the Charles, adding a few pint of unrine wont change a thing.

lol

The NDA has been lifted and numerous reviews are now out; anandtech, pcgamer, tomshardware, pcperspective and many others have released their reviews...Sapphire R9 290X going for $579 at Newegg: http:///1eObBIN

Nvidia's cards have always commanded a price premium over AMD's, at given performance people will pay more for the Nvidia card. Not like, 50% more, but a good amount. And it's certain that the 780ti will be faster than 290X because the 290X is already slower than a plain 780(with both overclocked to maximum), so all Nvidia has to do is bin the better 780s and that's your 780ti which is faster than both Titan and the 290X. They still have the better hardware and heatsink, here, so it's not too hard for them to continue to command a premium.

Titans are no longer going to sell like crazy at $1000, but, I'm pretty sure that 8 months of those sales exceeded their expectations handily.

which benchmarks have you been reading, because I've been reading the ones that say the 290X is faster than the 780 for $100 less

Competing with a $100 price premium... how about no, how about you price competitively.

i think he means when both are OCed. Without OC the 290x is faster than the 780 but it has very OC capabilities (at least on the stock cooling). The 780 can OC a fair amount.

Every review site has said a few different things, but as it seems right now via newegg, linus, and TTL:
At stock clocks:
The 290x is faster, hotter, and louder than the 780
Once overclocked to max potential (reference cooler)
The 290x is slower, hotter, and louder than the 780
My hopes are on a 780 price drop, because if these two hit the same price-point then I dare say that we will not see very many people opting for the 290x unless they really love AMD. Especially if the reference only thing is not lifted soon.... This card is TOO hot with stock cooling

Unless their sales go into the toilet you're not going to get affordable pricing out of nV who pretty much pioneered price gouging in the PC video card market.

The 780 can OC a fair amount.
The problem with video card OC'ing is that it has always been a crap shoot. Even for cards where its a "sure thing" like the 780 mediocre OC's are the norm and not the exception.

This is because the IHV's are most always pushing the silicon, die sizes, and cooling capabilities to the limit in a very compact form factor. We really need CPU sized heat pipe heat sinks on these things to get the most out of them but that usually isn't practical even for the [H] crowd.

At this moment the 780 has the ACX cooler going for it that is stock on most cards which is better than AMD's reference cooler so I think for many OC'ing a 780 will overall be a more enjoyable experience. If you're expecting to get the top clocks out of a random 780 you'll probably be disappointed though.
