My Editing Setup... Cable management is a MUST. Totally worth the 10 bucks for it to look this clean.

You don't need the cable management. I just zip tie the cables to the frame of the desk. The end result looks the same.

I bought a little tray for wrapping the cables, it is an add on at Ikea, I think it cost 10 dollars. And yes, you can zip tie all the cables, but for the extra time it would take it's worth $10 bucks to me. On the other hand, if you didn't buy it and had to go back to Ikea... I'd zip tie them. haha.

Just wondering what you bought.
I have my cable management done. Cost more than $10 and it took two whole days

Yeah, you're cable work is a little more elaborate than Ikea's Pronged tray that screws into the bottom of the desk. Essentially, it's built to wrap the cables around a small area to hide them. Very nice setup, good sir.

I was going through the thread and saw this setup. At first glance, I thought it was two extensions, but in the third picture I don't see a gap on the right.

It appears to be a left corner desk in the middle with a table top on the right.

They appear to be attached somehow, since there's only one leg between them. Is anyone able to confirm that the corner/table top come with hardware to attach one to the other?

that is my old setup, and yes, the frame ties into the corner desk with hardware.

Thanks. It's hard to understand quite how it goes together on Ikea's web site. I see drawings of frames in the guide, but only the extension frames seem to have the two little rods sticking out.

I'm just trying to cover as much wall as I can with Galant desk space and still have leg room.

Your newer setup is massive btw.

yeah the frame has a connector that extends it so the leg is on the end. It's a half-round extension that I have with the flat part forward.

it's confusing for sure! if you find the table pieces you want, an ikea associate will be able to help you get the necessary frame parts and legs to tie it all together.

the new setup is massive as i've added parts each time i moved to a new place with more room. i have a couple more pieces in the closet that i might add if i can figure out how to tie them in to the existing frame.

Thanks for the info.

Has anyone tried a Fractal Define XL R2 in the summera PC holder? I think it's close in height to a P18x which I've seen in one but I can't be sure.

Got the galant setup for my home office thanks to this thread :). Excuse the clutters as I am still waiting on the monitor riser to hide all my gears.

Has anyone with a Galant had an issue with the little plastic "plugs" coming out. I had 2-3 of them come out with the screw instead of the screw just backing out properly. This all happened because I am an idiot and had one of the legs ever so slightly in the wrong spot.

I put some wood glue in the hole and pushed things back down, but I fear that when it comes time to move I am going to have to replace the wooden part of the desk due to not being able to properly get it disassembled.

Pics of the final setup tonight! The desk is super comfortable as far as using it goes...my last desk I couldn't rest my elbows on the desk because it was too narrow.

sorry for the picture quality, my DSLR usb cable is down and I am waiting for a new one.

this isnt the greatest angle either cause it makes it look short Im actually standing on my bed.

but to give you an idea of how giant this desk is.. thats a 40 inch tv on the right and a 27 inch monitor in the center hahah.

this thing is gigantic.

i love it though. spacious and clean looking. the wax and tung oil makes it look even better.

more detailed pictures soon

I just wanted to say that this setup and the butcher's block idea in general really sounds awesome and I'm already making plans to build me a desk like that within the next few weeks! :)

Does anyone know why the stain on the Galant drawer on casters looks like the wrong stain on the site? They are all listed as "Black-Brown" but the drawer looks pitch black.

my table + extension match as "black-brown":

but the "black-brown drawer unit" doesn't (at least in the picture)

Just a bad picture or two different stains?

On another note... are the drawer units even any good? they seem steep at $200 a pop ( I don't see many people in this thread with them at least from pictures).

You really need to see them in person to make a decision. I did not buy it because I don't feel I need one and it's too expensive.

1- Yes they are 2 different stains I seen them in person, unless now Ikea has newer tables.
2- $200 for those drawers are steep for me that is! especially on all Galant you have to make sure to tighten the screws after two weeks of use, and make sure they
stay tight by checking them several times a year as recommended.

For those of you who have one of those cable management things under your Galant desk, is that something you have to drill into the desk to install or is there some way to install them without drilling into the wood?

yes, it comes with screws. you don't need a drill, but it helps. i fit the holder to the bottom of the desk, drilled small pilot holes, then sunk the screws. took 5 min.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But if you get the Galant desk, you have to get the Frame and the Legs separately right? So they are a different Article number? I don't have one near me, so before I drive 2 hours and before I call to ask I thought I would ask here.

Yes, they are separate. The item number you see is the assembled desk. The article numbers are listed in the products description.
