AMD R9 290x Pricing?

prices are all over the place, seen one as low as $525, seem them as high as $850

Im sure AMD intentionally had them listed at random prices.

newegg has them at $725, you would think thats legit as well.

Provantage had one at $525, they are also a legit company.

All we know for sure is that AMD said that $600 will not be the price. Kyle confirmed that at the livestream event in Hawaii.

So lower or higher is all we know. I'm betting <=$550.

700+ is just way to high IMO, over double that of the 280x, and too much of a gap in pricing between series, but maybe I'm just being hopefull for a <$500 290 :p

I still think that it's being price-gouged to hell and back by many retailers.

It's most likely going to be between $549 to $699 MSRP but price-gouged to between $650 to $700-plus.

yep panties will be yanked on the first shipments.

But to be fair ALL of these cards are WAY OVERPRICED

i'd say $700 for the 290x and $570 for the 290... this just just a hunch no valid info at all.

This sounds right for me, I'd think they price vanilla R9 290 to fly out the door. Hell for $570 x2, slightly more than a Titan and some monster power.
Oh and no need to buy those uber expensive crossfire ribbons :p

Agreed. Very powerful cards, yes. But, for a high end gaming card, I'd say $500 would be my top price. Mid range ~ $250-300. For $150 a low end gaming card. Below that, general desktop/graphics and very light gaming.

People pay the $700, though (or 1K for the Titan). I think they could increase the sales by lowering the price. I know I'd bite if it were less... It'd be a big expense still, but I'd pay it for that luxury. $700? Nope. I'll live with a mid-range card. If the price gap were smaller, I'd go higher end.

Still, can't say it wouldn't be nice to have one. Nothing against the technology at all, but that's more than I'd spend on a video card. I buy good stuff, but I couldn't justify the cost on something that goes obsolete faster than my other components.

For $900, you can have tri-fire 7970 (R9-280x) and absolute tear apart a Titan for $100 less.

And have fraps showing your doing 130 fps when your really doing 40 fps on tri-fire 7970 , and on your $100 More Titan really be doing 100 fps . My mom always said you get what you pay for :D

they are baiting nvidia to drop prices and then they launch under those dropped prices

Yeah, something is going on about pricing based off of what Nvidia might do in that area. I have $1,600 in the bank ready to pull the trigger. I might just get 3 x 290's instead of 2 x 290x's

I hate you, but in a nice way.

Hope you have a 4k screen or running triple 30" screens because that would probably be too much overkill.... LOL. Also from experience running three cards, the heat, noise, and stuttering wasn't worth it.

They're just guessing because of the comments AMD made in Hawaii. Some of the retailers are guessing the product will hit > $599, some are guessing it will hit < than $599, because AMD ruled out a $599 MSRP at the reveal...;) Would be a real coup for them to hit the < than $599 mark...

yeah i'm guessing it'll be something around $580 MSRP for the retail cards which gives manufactures a little wiggle room on the custom cooled cards to be just under 600 at launch for the 290X ~525 for the 290 just because they said it would not be 600 dollars. it would be stupid of AMD to say that specific number if it was going to cost more than that.

^ Prices are all over the place dude. Smaller retailers are accepting pre-orders anywhere from $500 to $600.

They didn't say that specific number, at all. Kyle did, and the AMD guy shook his head no.

PC gaming stalls for another 5 years it might not be a bad investment

I was joking, of course they are guessing.

Some are as high as $725

Around $500 and everyone and their mama will be sporting R9 290X.

Knowing the next node jump and generation is coming at the end of next year or early 2015, you will lose a lot of value. I don't see that as being a good investment at all.

Well, "good investment" and "high performance gaming Hardware" are terms that do no exactly go together anyway.

well then might as well get a 280 and just skip the 290 and wait for that if its that much faster

but then none of that matters if all the games for next 5 year can be maxed out on 1 290x
woo your 290 setup gets you 100FPS and then 390 gets you 120 fps meh? if your good enough now and dont change to bigger displays what does it matter if you get 100 or 120 or 300 fps? if you can max out the game and its more then playble

This^

A lot depends on yields. Can AMD afford to sell Hawaii for $500? Would they have enough chips to supply the demand at $500? If the answer to either of those questions is no, then they have to price it higher. End of story.

If the answer to both of those questions is yes though, then AMD has the option of really shaking up the market, or pricing higher and more competitively. If the latter then it's simply business as usual. nVidia commands a higher price for their cards and continues to outsell them at around 2/1. Come in at $500 for the 290X and $400 for the 290 and nVidia will be forced to respond with strong price cuts. Let Mantle be as good as the optimists are predicting and I don't see how nVidia could possibly get GK110 to a low enough price to compete and not loose their corporate shirts.

Pure speculation, of course.

I'm all for new stuff, especially tech, but my card is more than enough for what I'm doing at ultra settings 19 x 12 :D
