AMD's GPU '14 Product Showcase Webcast

Ok, so let's get this straight.

They're releasing the $299 card without any new features, with the exact same performance as the 7970 Ghz, that you can buy today for <$280....

and not putting the DSP on the 280x?

So they're giving the $300 market NOTHING?

I think they said that the audio will be on the R7-260x, R7-280x, and R7-290x. I think the 260x was supposed to be for the <$300 market.

BTW, when you get more applause for AMD hosting the event in Hawaii than for the actual products, then you know something is wrong (and this is coming from someone who has mulitple AMD cards). :D

That's pretty cool. I don't hate the idea of a decent audio solution on a graphics card, but they make it look like it's the most important thing to happen to any gpu.

Of course they are, this is a sales pitch to investors. Not as much for the gamers. It's cool that they're letting us see this because every company over hypes everything no matter how small it is.

I have not been impressed with sound in the last 5 years and it's exciting that sound is getting a bump in quality.

nerdy people are the shittiest presenters man.

I work in showbiz....lemme tell ya amigo...these are not "the worst" presenters by a mile. Not that they're good, but I've seen and had to do AVR/stage support for far worse.

Well, I guess we know now why they had to wait to get the live stream working properly.
How else could they demonstrate the great audio.

Nope.

Anand live blog shows:

True Audio "Available on R9 290X, R9 290 and R7 260X"

No mention of the 280x

i thought we got past this paper release bullshit
fuck AMD even if is faster and cheaper i wont by it now

OK I'm going to say what everyone is thinking here...

Do the new cards have a hardware based frame pacing mechanism (and/or have they finally gotten a RELEASE DRIVER based solution working exceptionally)? To heck with the on-card audio, I'll take more consistent frame rates over audio any day, especially if it works with crossfire. Personally I'm not going to be too thrilled if I drop $600 on an R9-280x and I get not only runt frames, tearing, and microstuttering, but now also periodic runt/garbled/stuttering audio.

lol, thats a little extreme.

i thought the industry learned paper launches would not be tolerated any more
imo every should do the same boycott any thing that uses a paper launch
and im sorry but thats what this is AMD doesnt get a by just because the did some silly stage show its sill just the same

most frame timing issues were specific to crossfire. Since cross fire is a minority, I think many people don't care too much.

If you're a crossfire user then it's definitly pretty freaking important

You do know that the famepacing only happens in Crossfired cards right? Single cards are not effected by frame pacing (at least not beyond nVidia sinlge card frame pacing since there will always be a small difference between each frame)

just pretend this video webcast never happened. solved!:D

woops! someone is in trouble... You should never plug speakers in the middle of a demonstration :)

Yep, I do know. My point is still valid since the [H]ardcore among us will care (like serpretetsky just said).

worse yet they only gave a PRE ORDER DATE FUCK THAT
last time i pre ordered a video card it end up being kinda crap after the first month compared to what came out just a few weeks later

and they didnt even give a price for there top end card total bullshit Kyle needs to call them on it

last time ether AMD or NV had a paper launch EVERY tech site tore them a new one
now they get a pass?
i guess i never really understood what's the big deal. Oh well, I dont want to derail this stream of posts too much.

I really wish they would talk more about the video card and only show games for direct evidence for some new feature or performance of their card.

Dont' get me wrong, some of these games look cool, but thats not why im watching this webcast.

They better announce a release date before the end of this stream.
I would think that they would be heavily criticized if they don't.

Kyle, can you please ask Raja what hardware this demo is running on? At least that'll make it relevant to this hardware announcement.
