Final Fantasy XIV Official Release Thread

Thanks!

Though without being at home in front of the PC with the game... thats Greek to me LOL. :p

I assume I need to hit up one of the three new quest givers (or whatevr they are that they added) before I go there?

just follow your main quest line, it takes you every where you need to go

I did the same thing with Brayflox's Longstop. Spent 8 hours Saturday running it. Ended up with a full suit of Calvary armor. Then the first run I do through Sunken Temple of Qarn, I ended up replacing half of it.

Bray is a great place to get gear. As a GLD I was still using the Calvary gear from there until I replaced it with the armor from Vigil (lvl 41). Almost 10 levels, not bad! I've run Bray at least 20 times helping FC members get geared. Doing the same with Vigil.

I wish I had run Qarn more, never got armor to drop for me in my 5 or so runs. The boss fights are a good challenge. Though I just ran it again yesterday at 46 (synced of course) and I'm not sure if it was the level bonus or just that the higher lvl content is that much more challenging but Qarn feels tame now only one death, mine, from a bee due to DPS not paying attention to target :p

Edit: All the Bray green gear looks awesome too

As a PLD, here's what I do:

1) Mark targets.
2) Run in, Flash once they're all close together to get initial aggro.
3) Provoke the one that the DPS pulled off because they can't wait.
4) Fast Blade -> Savage Blade -> Rage Of Halone
5) Flash again, just to be sure.
6) Tab to a new target, Fast Blade.
7) Tab to a new target, Savage Blade.
8) Tab to the DPS target, Rage of Halone.
9) Repeat step 4 and 5.

Sometimes, the healer will be sleeping mobs instead of healing you. In the long run, it saves them MP. In these situations, tanking is significantly simpler, but it does require a different approach. You can no longer use damage to gain threat on your targets, so you need to rely on Flash instead. Thankfully, it provides enough enmity to stay on top of the healer.

1) Mark targets.
2) Run in, Flash once they're all close together to get initial aggro.
3) Fast Blade -> Savage Blade -> Rage Of Halone -> Flash
4) Repeat step 3 until all mobs are dead.

Edit: All the Bray green gear looks awesome too
No kidding. My retainer is keeping all of mine. Might end up switching back to that look if S-E ever releases the skinning thing that WoW has.

also gear matters too. i think accuracy is important

i always pull off my buddy when he tanks but he doesnt have the best gear

How do I mark targets?

I was tabbing like a mf in a dungeon because someone kept attacking other mobs.
I right-click the enemy's healthbar at the top of the screen, and select "Mark". It brings up a window with all the marks you can use. Target an enemy, press the mark you want. Target the next, press another mark. Repeat as desired. I'm sure there's an easier way, but it's how I do it. Here's the generally agreed-upon meaning for each mark:

1, 2, 3 = Kill these guys in this order
Chain 1, 2, 3 = Sleep/CC these guys
No 1, 2 = Don't attack these guys
Square, X, etc = Unique identifiers, useful in macros. (<square> targets the mob marked with a square, etc)

How do I mark targets?

You can create macros to do it for you. Target the mob to mark and click the hotbar'ed macro.

The macro command is

/mk attack1 <t>

The number (1) can be changed 1 to 2, 3, 4 to change the mark's number

You can omit <t> as that's the setting by default

You can also replace attack1 with:

attack1 -- goes up to 5
bind1 -- goes up to 3
ignore1 or ignore2

Edit: For myself I just use attack1. Just before the current target dies I'll mark the next target and verify I have enough aggro to keep the mob on me for the coming DPS onslaught. This keeps DPS happy as they can just assist and have the next target -- DPS hate to wait ;)

we need more people in our FC, and more 50s!

its pretty terrible puging a hardmode garuda

Tell me about it man, I tried yesterday so many times and it did not turn out very well with a pug. If you want to put together a group later this evening I would be down I also have a few dps people I can probably ask to come that are experienced if we need.

I've been trying to buy this game the past few days but it's still unavailable online. Is there any other way I can get access? Does anyone want to sell their account to me or help me find a source for cd-key?

Healing is fun... if you watch your threat bar and don't overheal as overhealing causes aggro. Also AoE heal causes crapload of enmity, so use it as last stand skill. It's more preferable to use single target heals, as only tank should be getting aggro in a perfect party :)

One thing more, in the dungeons, there are much more things than tank and spank. Just pay attention to surroundings and watch the warnings, or there might be bad surprises - like in last fight in Sastasha :)

we need to gear up the tanks more importantly.

typheus and brodie should have close to full dark light gear in order to successfully beat it. same with a lot of the others.

we need to have everybody going on their relic quests too

In the Main Commands section in Actions & Traits, there will be a button for Signs. The signs Window let's you choose from the marks available. With this window open I select my first target, then just tab thru while picking the mark in the window.

Just hit 45,am cruising through with fate grinding. Gonna go do my class quest and storyline and will get back to more later.

If you have problems holding hate you need to figure out the optimal enmity generation pattern for every situation. Also tell your people to pay attention to their Enmity bars (small bar left to the pt list), its helping a lot. If somebody is close to pull hate they need to calm down its not always the tanks fault. Heres some info about the skills and their enmity values:

Am I the only one who feels screwed whenever he gets casters for DPS? I know it's ass-whooping time when I get a Dragoon coupled with my Paladin's high strength, but whenever I get a caster, they're doing slow damage and constantly dying because they think they can get spells out before they're hit by area attacks. And they're usually annoying cat people.

I simply spam the hell out of Rage of Halone to reduce party enmity.

I am constantly floored by the generosity of people in this game.

I log in, ask about the swimwear Fate thing and get a bunch of whispers offering me the ash currency for free to buy all the sets I want.

Sure there are asshats, but the nice people are really nice. :)

Went from 42-46 on my White Mage tonight with a mixture of fate grinding, story quests, and the lvl 44 instance.

Started to level a Marauder while waiting in queues, got it to lvl 11. Seems pretty fun so far. I usually make a tank as my 2nd class so I can see things from both sides of the coin.

Looking to hit 50 on my WHM by next weekend then I can run dungeons with the rest of you 50's lol. Might need to call on you to fight Garuda for the story. With the pug's I've been in I've only gotten my ass handed to me. Would be nice to have some organization.

Ran the level 20 dungeon last night. Had a great tank. The DPS were 2 arcanists (the ones with the pets)

One guy refused to obey attack order, and then kept walking into rooms full of mobs ahead of the tank. When we called him out on it, he threw a hissy fit, started trying to train tons of monsters onto us. I let him die (I'm the healer obviously) and we cleared the rest of the instance with 3 as he spammed emotes at us and generally acted like a clown. We couldn't votekick him because he was the leader. That seems like a gross oversight.

I don't know why, but every time I've had a problem in an instance, it's been the pet class acting stupid trying to solo everything.

Anyway, hit 28 last night and managed to get halfway to 29 this morning. Hoping for 30 in the next day or so so that I can start my sub class to work on getting white mage :)

Still really enjoying it, might be because I don't have all that much play time, so I'm not able to burn myself out super quick :)

I'd like to believe that a lot of them are related to FFXI players and such. Generosity was always pretty high in that game, and a lot probably came to XIV.

I have yet to meet toxic players in my journeys, but I am sure they are out there. Every time I have asked a question I get an helpful answer. Been quite refreshing to me.

Gratz on 46 Coffaholic - I hit 44.9999 last night LoL - really only need either 1 fate or a quest to lvl to 45 I believe. I haven't tried Garuda yet - sounds challenging.

[L]imey - sounds like someone I had in a group once - was was having fun wandering off and bringing mobs to us..lol. Almost wiped once - I think he then realized he shouldn't wander off...lol.

Yeah, well those that did beta probably have enough ash to buy several sets of clothing. I bought all the items and still have 400 ash or so left. I figure I could always gift the items later..LoL..haven't tried that yet....

i banged out hardmode garuda last night, What a fight lol, I want to get to the spire of Bahamut by the end of the month

My daughter and I managed to get the 2000 seals needed to get our Chocobo license. Cant wait till I get home from work and play! We are playing in a UK Server because we could not make a toon for her in the NA server. Anyone know when they will allow free character transfer to a NA server?

i dont know if they will, you can make a toon on leviathan at this point, i made one last night

i doubt it will be free. they compensated everybody with a week of game time. they expected you to wait if you wanted to play with friends that had a restricted server

The original FF MMO was the most toxic environment I've ever been a part of. It is reason I've been patiently watching this release.

780 sli with a 3770k @4.6 getting some slowdowns in town and fights..at 1600p,max settings.

is something wrong or is the game unoptimized? running windows 7, tried sli on and off, and no HT.

I've pretty much decided to not even try that until I find a FC that is going to be raiding and stuff. Using the DF for the story mode Garuda was terrible enough, so I have extreme reservations for the hardmode. It sucks because I'm stuck spam running AK until that happens though. Unfortunatey, by "spam running" I also mean I get to wait an hour in queue every single time and get a terrible group when I get in anyway.

There seems to be some optimization issues. My xfire 7970's and 3570k @ 4.4 slow down as well @ 1440p. In general, I feel like the game is coded to just drop frames really low in situations where a ton of player elements are to be rendered . I can be running along at 120fps, and turn slightly in the direction of a quest hub off in the distance and have my frames tank to 30ish. The game is trying to render things it's not even displaying currently, and thereby slamming cpu resources.

Regarding server transfers, this is what Yoshida had to say at Pax recently:

"We’ll be ready to go with server transfers very soon. Whether we make it free or not is still something we’re considering, because if we do make it free for everyone we can envision the same type of problems we had at launch. So we’re still deciding on how they will work, but they will happen soon."

Yea, I stopped playing until I can get together with my buddy on a server. As nice as the game is, playing solo in a MMO for me is Zzzz.

This really shouldn't be surprising... There's also no SLI support anyway as I recall, so you're not gaining anything there. MMOs are always very, very bad on performance when you're around 100+ other players.

That said, you shouldn't be getting any huge slowdowns in 4/8 player dungeons. Hell, Defiant Of in Avid was streaming Garuda HM @ 1080p while playing at 2560x1440, max settings, and getting solid 60+ FPS.

Yeah, dungeons are pretty light on system resources. Which is good. I wonder how well 24 player raids will hold up.

Its not working for everyone, but it works fine for some. Massive groups with tons of spells still cripple it but thats to be expected anyway.

Running around town and the world though, for the most part, is smooth for me

As a general concept, I need to stop trying to play MMO's at max settings and never dropping below framecap.

The engines aren't coded to do that, no matter how much hardware you throw at them.

I had the same issue in GW2 when it released, and I was upset.

I need to get over it :)

there is definitely SLI support. officially supported by the engine.

just not supported well by the engine or the drivers.

both need work.

anyone have a spare copy of the game? I have been trying to look for one with no luck.
