I'm looking into setting up a small security system at my house to send email notifications with a picture/video should an event occur.

I love Ubiquiti's products (Wireless stuff is the best imo) so I was wondering what other people have used and if they have used the airCam system.

My budget is around $400 for 3 cameras. I do not need a DVR as I have a server with lots and lots of space locked in a metal rack (Want email notifications to be safe, if they destroy the server I want to see it still).

I've been using one for a while. I'm not sure if you can add pictures to the email alerts. If not, its easy enough to find the directory that the images are stored to, and mirror it to a remote drive. The configuration was pretty simple. I did run into a problem where the newest NVR software would not install on server 2008. I was told I needed to install 64-bit java, but I had it installed and it still refused to work. Ended up just making a small windows 7 VM.
 
I have two of the dome cameras I use on the outside of my house mounted in the eaves / overhangs. I use mine with Milestone Systems software and have had them up for a year with no issues. I also like how you can do a live view of the cameras using VLC player, everyone in the house has a VLC shortcut on their desktop that allows them to view live video in about 2 seconds.
 
I've deployed many of their cams, work great for their intended purpose.

Note no switchable IR filter, they cams are completely blind in the dark. But for the price and reliability they are hard to beat. Their motion detection has been moved to the cameras on AirVision v2, which means small Atom based systems can run 10-15 cams pretty easy.
 
just set one of the bullets up, i want to get two more of the domes

airvision v2 is quite nice...
 
I was thinking about doing a combo of motion lights and cameras.

Please report back on how that works. I am putting in motion lights and replacing my old crappy ZModo camera setup (which did ok at night) with new IP cameras and am looking at the airCam. I've seen a lot of daytime reviews, but nothing with a night time or motion sensor lights...

The picture looks pretty good at night with my flood-light on, and the light isn't even pointed at my driveway.
 
I sent you a PM but I would stay away from Airvision. For cheap camera look at Dahua and running Blue Iris
 
I've used Foscam for indoor, but don't expect great image quality or distance.

Hey,, I do have a security system in my house but to be honest I haven't tried "Ubiquiti's product" since I didn't felt to change my old cameras :) :) '
I'd installed Foscam and till now its working fine!!

Are you looking for analog or ip?

For good night picture you will want a true day night with a movable IR cut filter...

Then you can also use IR if needed at night.

I like the Bosch 495/498's. The analog versions can be had cheap and are excellent camera's. I have some outside and they very very rarely ever even switch to black and white, and its just street light illumination.

Be aware of cheap camera's that lower the shutter speed at night to make the picture look bright, they are fine untill something moves and then its all ghost like images, i know speco had some ones that were bad for that
