Lenovo to include 3rd party start menu in new Win8 machines

It'll be interesting to see how well these do, and how much money they drop into marketing.

They went with Pokki? That's just more horrible bloatware I'm going to have to uninstall :(

Lenovo couldn't be any more out of touch with their business users if they tried. If they actually had their customers in mind they would have licensed Start8 (which is JUST a start menu replacement, not a horrible app store abomination trying to push the Poki app store).

I imagine most business users buy these machines in bulk and have standard images for each type. Most IT guys probably never even see what the desktop looks like out of the box.

As long as they keep their hardware up to par, they will continue to capture that market.

Actually, it would make a lot of sense for Lenovo if they licensed a customized version of Pokki that pushed their own app store or directed users to things like updated drivers, tutorials, etc..

I have a hunch that Microsoft will not like this and convince Lenovo to not do this anymore.

Microsoft and Lenovo get along pretty well, and since Lenovo has made such strong strides in pushing Windows 8 adoption, I don't think Microsoft is going to do anything about this.

Microsoft released Windows 8 in hopes that manufacturers would do cool things with it. The only manufacturer who has really been doing that is Lenovo, which is partly why Lenovo has found their way to the top of the computer manufacturer ladder.

Of course not because other OEMs have been doing for a while now and Microsoft never did anything about it. This particular Start Menu replacement is an app store that even promotes the Windows Store.

Exactly! Each new Lenovo laptop we get immediately has our image thrown on it

Note: HP created is own, proprietary, start button. Free to download and is to be on all their Non-touch laptops and desktops within a month or so.
