Anyone pick this up today? I did a search but didn't see any "official" or active threads. I've been looking forward to to it but I'm interested in the quality of the PC port and the shape of the game at launch.

Anyone have any impressions?

The reviews have been pretty good, but I'll wait to see some actual [H]ers comment on it.

I bought it, was very excited to finally play the game.

But, I think I hate it. It's like it is either another dumbed down port from the "age of consoles", or designed for morons to play.

The game starts out replaying levels from previous SC games, which is something I don't like.

And, it's like they think you're stupid. Walk past a window, you get "hit space to open". Same with a door, a crate, or anything else. The objectives are lit up like xmas trees, with big white lighted graphics. Need to blow up some relays, no problem, just follow the giant white letters. It's like they won't let you just immerse into being sam fischer, they constantly have to nag you with bullshit like the game is a tutorial. All the way through the first few levels, as far as I got anyway, the entire thing is prompt after prompt every time you walk past something. "Hit space to jump". "Hit space to open". "Hit space to look under". "Hit space to plant charges". "Hit space to climb in the window". "Hit space to pick up X weapon". It's bloody annoying. I'm sick of dumbed down shit. In one level you walk through an open fenced in area full of knee high crates, the entire time you keep seeing, "Hit space to jump", every time you walk past one. How many times do they have to tell you how to open a fucking door, or jump a fence, or a crate, or make a kill. For fucks sake, gamers are capable of reasoning for themselves.

Derrr, How the hell do I jump over this crate?.......I guess they have to tell me, because the space key hasn't been used to jump in every FPS game for the last three or four decades........

I guess I've been spotted, but I'm too dumb to know where I was just at, so they have to break immersion and show me a big white outline of where I was just standing......

They can't just present a briefing at the mission start, and let you find the mansion. "OVER HERE! HERE IT IS!", big, white, block letters. (hey, lets reuse this level and it can be like a weak ass flashback.)

/Cool, a chance to use my powers of deduction to find a way into the mansion.....

oh, wait....... just follow the moronogram.......like I wouldn't have been able to find the open fucking window myself.......Over here, here it is blind man.....even you can play this game.

Uh...I'm pretty sure those are screenshots from Conviction...or whatever the previous one was.

The big bold stylized mission objected strewn across the level were a staple of Conviction. I don't remember seeing that in any of the previews for BL. Kind of interesting that it has you replaying old missions part of me feels like you're trolling. :p

I bit the bullet and got it, it's installing. Don't know if I'll be able to get to it this evening but I'll post some impressions when I can.

OMG, I am a nitwit. I preloaded Blacklist a day or two ago, or so I thought, but it downloaded the free copy of Conviction that came with the purchase instead of Blacklist.

/Lowers head in shame, walks away mumbling something about being a complete ofking idiot......... :D

I'm going to sleep, it's too late......

/Black list downloading now. I hope I'm soooooo wrong about this game.

He did say that it starts you off playing levels from the previous sc(splinter cell)

Not the first levels I'd hope...

Ah, gotcha. :D No problem...I was just like, "...WTF?!"

Those are conviction ss's.

And blacklist does deliver. Perfectionist difficultly = win

its FUCKING amazing will hold me over till FFXIV

Well got it via nvidia code and have it downloaded and installed but won't be able to try it out till much later tonight. Heard it was fun and personally don't mind that they re-released some previous missions in the game since the only splinter cell I've played previously was a misson or two from conviction. All new to me.

To preface what I'm about to say, I really enjoyed conviction... the single player was fun (more action than stealth), and the coop was beyond awesome, some of the best coop I've ever played.

So a friend and I started playing coop on realistic difficulty in Blacklist and it's amazing so far. There are so many options for stealth, I've already found 4 different ways to either sneak by guards or knock them out. Also cool details like different dialogue for the same situations on different play throughs (you'd only get this if you die and have to start the level over).

The dogs are kind of annoying and are very unforgiving. But they aren't hard if you coordinate with your coop partner. I was sitting up around a corner calling the dog, and my coop partner hanging from the ceiling dropped down and took him out. The AI seems pretty good and so far it seems like a good mix between a conviction style game and some leanings towards the glory days of stealth in chaos theory.

If you enjoyed conviction at all then blacklist is a no-brainer buy. I can already see it's better in every way possible. If you are a chaos theory purist there will be some things that annoy you, but I feel it's definitely worth a play-through. As a NV pack-in game you can find uplay codes fairly cheap and you can run it as a non steam game with overlay and screenshot working perfectly.

Hey man, admitting a mistake is hard, but good of you to do.

I think most people are looking forward to the return of the multiplayer mode, though.

Dude, you totally made my wednesday :)

I bought and love it so far. Haven't tried the co-op, but can't wait. If anyone want to run co-op message me and I'll send my XBL or it should be in my sig.

Hahahaha! Yes, that made my day as well...thanks for letting us laugh at your expense...that's fucking hilarious.

That was great. :)

Apparently the release date was moved up a week. Originally it wasn't supposed to come out until the 27th...or at least I could have sworn...but it is out now. I'm downloading and I saw that North American release is indeed today, the 20th.

I think it's because most console gamers are like anywhere from 8-18 years old, so they make the game practically play itself....then PC gamers suffer the consequences.

The game insists on starting up in windowed mode no matter what I do.

just follow the moronogram
LOL, moronogram, love it.

How old are you? You sound young. I don't mean that to be insulting, it's just that, the world really is full of morons. Smart young people tend to be the ones offended by the consequences of that. Smart older people tend to be more jaded.

Still, that does sound bloody annoying.

Really? You played Splinter Cell for Sam's voice?

I guess we will see how any people don't play Metal Gear Solid 5 b/c Kiefer Sutherland is now the voice of Snake instead of David Hayter.

Reading that really bums me out. Didn't know they replaced snake's voice with Kiefer. If I ever play it it's just going to seem wrong not having Hayter's voice for snake. That being said I can understand people who are real fans of the series wait for dlc to have the original voice for Sam.

I ain't no spring chicken......let's just say I've been around at least 4 and a half decades....:D

So far I'm really like this game, but then again, I love SC games and the concept behind them.

I've turned of every UI option, and I'm playing Perfectionist mode, BUT, it's still killing me with prompts for everything.

"Press space to jump". "Press E to open door". "Press Space to bash door". "Press E to peek under door". "Press E to stealth kill". And on, and on, and on.

For fuck's sake, gamers are not fucking morons. Tell us once, and then stop fucking interrupting us every two minutes with mundane text every time we walk past something.

/Being restricted to an aiming cursor instead of being able to look down irons sites or optics sucks. It's console bs, like developers have stopped trying for realism in favor of moronplayability.

I am hopeful still. I really couldn't think of anyone else anyway. I'm going to have to watch the E3 video again to see if I can hear him.

Here is a interview with Kojima and Kiefer if you're interested.

it did that the first time I fired it up, but if I wait for the start screen I can ALT+ENTER and get full screen, now it starts full screen everytime I fire the game up.

also, there is a day 1 patch that is 1.07 gigs.... make sure you download because it seems to have some fairly major fixes in it!

Do you remember any storyline from a Splinter Cell? Bet not. Do you remember Ironside? Most likely.

I'm missing him in a bad way here. No way around that.

Other than that, though? This game is pretty sweet and someone mentioned perfectionist mode earlier? They ain' kiddin'.

Canadians are slowly replacing your voice overs. Canadian game development companies are taking over development of games more and more. Soon, Canada will reign supreme in game development. Muhuhhaha!

So you like it man? Worth getting for a playthrough? How is co-op?

The new voice actor is shit.

I also like how the game runs at 4 frames per second.
