I still can't bring myself to upgrade my system. I have an i7 920 cpu at 3800mhz and a gtx 580 3gig video card.

Would I notice an increase if I went with a haswell chip and say a 770gtx?

I think my system can still play games at 1080p fine. I have 12gigs of ddr3 1600 memory and an intel ssd.

I am thinking of just waiting until the next intel cpu and 800 series from nvidia.

What do you guys think? I do all my gaming at 1080p.

Thanks! :)

Unless you start adding monitors, there is no reason to upgrade for awhile.

If you haven't already tried to OC that processor up to 3.6-4.0 Ghz, that would be the first thing I would do....maybe get yourself a really nice heatsink if you don't already have one.

Yes I have it at 3.8 right now.

I have no problem waiting. Saving money sounds good to me.

Greetings

Just get a second cheap used 580 and SLI them, upgrade only when that setup becomes slow

Cheers

I second that suggestion, and like also mentioned above, you may be able to get a little more out of your CPU if you have good cooling and a DO 920.

Ya your setup should be fine for 1080p gaming. Like some of the members above said just find a cheap 580 to run sli and wait a year or two before thinking about making a grab for your wallet.

I'm running a similar setup and see no need to upgrade anytime soon. Heck, I haven't even overclocked my 920 in a year and I've never experienced a "need" for anything faster even with newer games (Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Witcher 2).

I'm still running a 920 @ 4.0ghz with a pair of 3GB GTX 580s in SLI. The only time it struggles is on poorly optimized games such as the ARMA series (essentially single core), and games with broken SLI on a 2560x1600 monitor. I'm thinking I can hold out for another year until Haswell-E.

It's kind of amazing what kind of staying power 5 year old processors have now.

While I agree, I think the first I7s broke the mold..They were insanely fast for their launch era...The hex core 32nm based models with HT are even more relent speed wise for their age...An i970/980/990 clocked to 4.2-4.5Ghz is a very potent cpu, especially if you are heavy multi-tasker...

You would probably notice the GTX770, but not the Haswell by much.

I don't see the point in upgrading then...
