Pretty good! maybe theyre feeling the pressure of the lower-priced ones (korean)

Or theyre going to lower the price of 2560x1600's when the 4k's hit.. Interesting times for displays.

Too bad these have some issues.

Issues? Ugh I just ordered one because the price was good. Now I gotta go googling, darn expiring coupon made me rush to order lol.

When there is a good deal its better to pull the trigger first, you usually have overnight to determine if you want to cancel it.

Amazon's price fluctuates on this monitor and a week ago was about $970 new, I believe.

About the same price as Dell with tax.

I would stay far far away from this monitor until they release a few revisions further down the line. As of right now they suffer from several issues, one of which Dell has acknowledged that they do not have a fix for yet.

Care to elaborate on the issues, or are you just talking out of your ass?

The problem is noted here:

I tried to cancel my order, but it appears dell sales is closed and there is no online method to cancel like Amazon has. I would guess they might have a fix coming and are trying to get rid of their current stock so they dropped the price to $899.99, but officially there is no fix for it yet and not ETA.
Just hang on to the one you bought for $900 then exchange it for a later revision when it's released.

Head over to the Dell forums or even the forums here and enjoy a nice long read.

I dont need to waste my ass lips for the u3014. Its doing plenty of talking on its own.

In fact, I was a potential customer that they lost. I had been eagerly waiting for the monitor to be released but once I started reading on the problems, I stayed away.

If you do an exchange within 30 days of buying the monitor from Dell, you get a NEW one.

If you do an exchange after 30 days of buying the monitor from Dell, you get a refurbished one.

You need to ask yourself how comfortable are you really going to be with a refurbished monitor considering you paid close to a $1000 for it. Some folks are, some arent.

Really comes down to the warranty on it. You buy a brand new monitor with a warranty of at least a year. How long is the warranty on the refurb? 90 days or something?

Well, that do suck. I wasn't aware of that change in Dell's warranty policy. I bought a 3008 refurb back in 2009. After several months, I started noticing lots of stuck/dead pixels in the upper half of the screen. Dell replaced it with a new 3008, no questions asked.

The warranty continues for the entire 3 years...

Holding out for $1000 4K monitor since Dell has one coming into the fray too.

No way man. They seriously honor the remainder of your warranty on a refurbished screen?

What if you exchange it 1 month prior to your warranty ending? Do they take the greater of the warranty periods, I.E. 90 days or remainder of warranty.

Wait a sec. Youre telling me that if I buy a brand new dell screen. Then 3 months later it breaks and is replaced under warranty they still honor the original 3 year warranty on the refurb?

No, he is saying it doesn't shorten the warranty, it continues till it is up.

So if you have 3 years and you buy 02/13 it expires 02/16 even if you get a replacement in the first year. The replacement has the warranty going to 02/16

Yeah, Dell will replace it as many times as neccessary with refurbs for the full length of your warranty.

I am not a fan of the refurbs though. It's a mixed bag, because Dell will let you exchange if you've got nasty backlight bleed, but they don't seem to view it as an issue that will require them to fix the monitor and take it our of circulation. My new U2412M was great, it died for no reason about two months in, and since then I've been through half a dozen refurb replacements, all with nasty backlight bleed. I imagine that when they do the refurb process, they either don't check backlight bleed or have a really lenient acceptance criteria for it. I finally gave up after six tries, when I got one with mild (but still noticeable) backlight bleed after every prior monitor had bad backlight bleed. If I feel like dealing with their customer support, going back and forth to the post office, and playing the panel lottery maybe I'll try to get one without backlight bleed, but it's not the end of the world (however, if this was a $900 monitor instead of a $350 monitor, I might be saying different)

Honestly this horizontal line banding problem is a bit soverblown. It is noticable if you look hard for it. It is not noticable if you use your monitor like a normal person would --- IE keep your face 2 feet back from the screen instead of nose to the screen in trying to see the problem.

I have a 3014 monitor I purchased. It exhibits the problem too. It is so significantly superior to any other monitors I've owned that I can ignore the slight horizontal banding problem. It is so slight that it might very well be one of those things that if someone didn't point it out to you that you might very well not have noticed. I challenged my wife to find the problem without point it out to her and challenged a friend to do the same. Neither could. Of course when I pointed it out they could see the problem -- both said they wouldn't worry about it. I decided the same.

Yes a monitor this expensive should be flawless, but assuming you don't have one of the quirky touch button issues, or inappropriate backlight bleed - the horizontal banding flaw issue alone is certainly not a deal breaker.

Between this 30" 3014, and my previous Microscenter 27" Auria (korean type 27" knockoff), --- The Dell 3014 is WAYYYYYYY better in every single aspect.

Yeah Dell has an amazing policy on their Ultrasharps. Had to replace my early U3011 twice, but my 2nd refurb thus far has been perfect :)

My first u3011 came in with a stuck pixel and was over a year old. I had a brand new one sitting on my porch the next day that was only 2 months old and had no dead pixels :) Dell monitors are definitely worth the extra few bucks for the no hassle warranty. Especially if you are going to spend close to 1000 bucks on a monitor.

On behalf of Dell, I would like to thank all of you for keeping dell afloat.

This monitor probably costs them $180 to build. Those are the kind of margins we get on big oil and gas equipment.

Seriously I would choose an overclocked cat leap style monitor over this for half the price.

Feel free to just spit out random numbers when it comes to knowing what Dell spends on their flagship products.

LIAR! it's actually $180.22.

I have one of these and I must say it was worth the money. I paid a bit less than this, but it is an extremely good monitor period. I love the resolution and with 2 2007FPb monitors flanking it, I love the setup.

Mine is an A02 version and I have not seen any issues with this panel gaming or otherwise.

I just got mine on Wed. and yes it has the issue it is a March rev A02. It's hard to see it if you lower the brightness to around 30, but with the test picture you can see the interlace like lines on the faces and gradients on the lower left corner if you get real close to the monitor, which essentially limits the monitor's brightness to 30-32 max. Mine has some weird backlight bleeding from the bottom 2 corners when the screen is very dark or black it is very annoying, but the colors are all spot on. I have seen some complaints about the whites being slightly yellowish but on this one I am currently using white is near perfect. I am considering asking for an exchange and hope it fixes the backlight issue but I am on the fence on just returning the monitor and waiting for the next revision. Yeah I can live with the issue on this monitor, it is no where near as bad as the image seen on the dell forum thread, but as someone once told me "Why would you accept a defect in a purchased product? Did you give them defective money?"

Keep in mind that we may not see the fixed A03 at or near $899 for a long time. Dell almost certainly offered the U3014 at this price to clear out inventory of the A02, all of which exhibit this issue to some degree.

Very true that's why I am on the fence about returning it. Now that I have been using this giant monitor for a few days, I don't know if I can go back to my 2407. It's was a trap I tell you, a trap. ;)

Every time I have stepped up a monitor size, its felt the same way. You won't be able to let it go. :D

LOL know that exact feeling. First day I got my 30" I was like holy crap this thing is huge, what was I thinking. A week later, looked at my 22" in disgust :p

It was the opposite for me. I upgraded to a 27" and I constantly had to resize windows because I couldn't read the text on the edges of the screen because it was too far away. But that's mostly because my eyesight is incredibly shitty.

I went back down to a 21.5 and that issue went away, plus I can now run games at max settings again at a 1080 resolution rather than 1440.

QFT

And to me it has not mattered if the pixel density went down, when you can push a monitor further back and get more desk space for work in front of you it is a great bonus as well. Either increase in size or pixel density are good.

For text, couldn't you just increase the font size or in a browser do a <ctrl>+ or 2? Then again, maybe that defeats the point of a higher res monitor. Never owned a 30", so don't know how it'd look. I do like the idea of a 4K monitor. Can't get enough resolution when editing photos :D

Never mind on 4k monitors. Just saw an Asus goes for $3500 (too much for my current needs). Wish I'd seen this 30" deal last week. If it's got flaws, I'd just exchange it when the A03 comes out....if they sent a refurb, I'd send it back again (if the problem still existed) until I got an A03.

That should work, also I think if your eye sight is bad higher resolution is actually better that is UNLESS scaling is not working well in your application or website. The subjects post is weird because actually the DPI on a 21.5 inch and a 27 inch are incredibly close at 102 vs 108 DPI. He just lost a ton of real estate. He could have also just resized windows to fit in the middle 1920 pixels and it would have been like a taller 21 inch monitor.

In that thread, the Dell Rep says that if the problem you have is only fixed by a new revision, then you'll get a new monitor. However, that thread refers to A01, not A02. It sounds like posters are saying the A02 has the same problem, though some are saying it's barely noticeable, so it sounds like the A02 is a much improved, because it's obvious in the tiny A01 screen cap.
