The next time you relax in front of your Samsung Smart TV, please put on some clothes. :D That’s the word out of the Black Hat security conference referencing the real possibility of someone hacking into your TV and taking over control of your remote….and your camera.

Because the TV only has a single user, any type of compromise into an application or into Smart Hub, which is the operating system--the smarts of the TV--has the same permission as every user, you can do everything and anything.

There is built in camera in samsung smart tv?

What purpose does it serve other than monitoring what viewers are doing?

They really need to stop putting camera's in everything.. Of course this is going to happen..

On the E series (2012) the camera can be rotated up until you see a green circle and will then not be in use.

On the F series (2013) the camera is a like a push button and pops up. If it isn't popped up then it isn't one.

All cameras are in the center top of the screen. I'm sure it will be patched soon enough.

meh, I really don't care, if they really enjoy watching me, then seriously they will be in for a disappointment

I'm not sure who decided that TVs needed webcams but it's got to be the single most useless feature ever. Seriously, did we run out of worthwhile features and now they're just sticking in whatever random idea falls out of their ass so they can justify boosting the prices up on the new models year after year?

this would've definitely made things easier for the nerds in Revenge of the Nerds movie.

Does every "news" story need to be about someone watching/spying on you lately (not just here but everywhere)?

Because it's popular to be paranoid right now. It used to be popular to talk about social media or what Apple was doing. Before that, it was popular to talk about something else. Society drifts from being collectively infatuated with one thing or another. Give it time and it'll pass, but you'll get to see a lot of (perhaps too much of) something else that gets old and annoying.

You guys don't realize 2 things.
1. website exploit it has to be able to goto the site with the rootkit on it.
2. Samsung application backdoor

if those aren't met there is no way they can access the camera :) .

Works on your TV too. Then again, so does not buying or owning a TV. Stinky luddites unite!

This whole camera talk reminds of the malware that pretends to be the FBI collecting a fine and turns on your webcam displaying an image of you on the screen. I get at least one call a month to remove this on laptops, but if something like it happened on a tv I'm pretty sure my customers would crap a brick.

Getting watched while u fap in front of your brand new smart TV...ha ha.Just put some gum over the camera!

Hurr, I spend most of my day cleaning out the FBI/ISA/NSA/etc etc etc hijack on my customers PCs.
